For our day out in Venice, Mike and I headed to Piazza San Marco. During our time there, we visited the Museo Correr, which is housed in the Procuratie buildings that once served as the Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace).
We began our self-guided tour of the museum in the Imperial Rooms, then continued through the Neoclassical Rooms. Here, you can see a view of the Sala da Cena (Dining Hall) and its centerpiece -- Dedalo e Icaro (Daedalus and Icarus), which was sculpted by Antonio Canova circa 1777.
An informational placard provided more details on the sculpture, while the museum's website provided a few details on the room's decoration. I've transcribed those descriptions below:
Canova and Venice: Daedalus and Icarus
This marble group of Daedalus and Icarus is one of Antonio Canova's earliest masterpieces. The work was commissioned by the procurator Pietro Vettor Pisani for his Palazzo Pisani Moretta overlooking the Grand Canal. Just 20 years old, with amazing genius, Canova achieved a suggestive contrast between the classical model (Icarus) and the characteristically Venetian 18th-century pictorial naturalism, inspired by Giambattista Piazzetta's ''heads'' (Daedalus).
This skillful composition links the two figures around an ''empty'' void, enclosed circularly by the thread that goes between Icarus's wing and Daedalus's hand. Expressing a form of emotional and dramatic communication, with his face contracted by doubt, the father Daedalus is attaching the wings -- made of feathers held together by wax -- to the arms of his young son Icarus, who is humoring him in all tranquility, looking forward to the joy of flight that will allow him to flee the labyrinth and the threat of the Minotaur.
The treatment of the marble surface is vibrant and still a long way away from the polished purity that was to become a characteristic of Canova. An eloquent trademark of the sculptor, the mallet and chisel lying at the feet of the elderly architect place Canova in continuity with Daedalus.
Presented at the ''Fiera della Sensa'' (Ascension) in 1777 where it met with resounding success, young Canova earned 100 gold zecchins for this work, which he used to travel to Rome for the very first time. It was there that his experience of the ancient and the support of a variety of different people were to result in his decisive turn to the classical and his rise to international renown.
Sala da Cena (Dining Hall)
The Dining Hall of the palace has maintained its original neoclassical decor completely intact. The ceiling fresco depicts Olympus and is the work of Giovanni Carlo Bevilacqua; the tondi with stories of Cupid and Psyche are by Pietro Moro. On the walls, between grisaille decoration against a gold background, are small tondi with the months of the year and the signs of the zodiac. In the lower band of decoration are tondi with views of the capitals of the Lombardy-Veneto regions. Above the doors are pairs of putti by Sebastiano Santi; dating from 1824-25, they allude both to the seasons of the year and to the childhood of Apollo and Diana.

The books behind the pretty goddess on the Malibu beach hut and surfboard are The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon, Homer's Iliad, Homer's Odyssey, Shakespeare, and Herman Melville's Moby Dick! My favorite books! Will have some video of the pretty model reading them beside a campfire soon.
They're all collectors editions! My books cost as much as my surfboards!

A Gold 45 Goddess exalts the archetypal form of Athena--the Greek Goddess of wisdom, warfare, strategy, heroic endeavour, handicrafts and reason. A Gold 45 Goddess embodies 45SURF's motto "Virtus, Honoris, et Actio Pro Veritas, Amor, et Bellus, (Strength, Honor, and Action for Truth, Love, and Beauty," and she stands ready to inspire and guide you along your epic, heroic journey into art and mythology. It is Athena who descends to call Telemachus to Adventure in the first book of Homer's Odyssey--to man up, find news of his true father Odysseus, and rid his home of the false suitors, and too, it is Athena who descends in the first book of Homer's Iliad, to calm the Rage of Achilles who is about to draw his sword so as to slay his commander who just seized Achilles' prize, thusly robbing Achilles of his Honor--the higher prize Achilles fought for. And now Athena descends once again, assuming the form of a Gold 45 Goddess, to inspire you along your epic journey of heroic endeavour.

For the last photo for today, Doncaster 94 sure gets around a little bit these days! Having already spotted this during the East Coast Run last month, 94's owners have opted to run a little closer to home as a representation of one of the PTE's constituent bus operators. This one didn't quite make the push to get painted into coffee and cream, though a sister vehicle did, winding up with its roof chopped off and towing gear installed towards the rear. Bit of an easier fate for 94 here, however!
The final photo for this batch, preserved Doncaster Corporation 94, a 1947 Roe bodied Leyland Titan PD2, originally fitted with a Leyland body until that was swapped for this former trolleybus body in 1963, is seen on display at the SYPTE 50 event at the South Yorkshire Transport Trust premises.

I know this isn’t a self-portrait but I would love to explain why I didn’t create a self-portrait this week :)
Basically, I started taking photos, more or less, at the same time I picked up a pencil. I was never really into art or photography when I was little, but at the age of around 19 I managed to get into architecture at university. This is where I guess I was introduced to photography, drawing and design in general. To be honest at first I hated it, the main reason was because I just couldn’t draw anything at all or take a decent looking photograph for that matter (in fact I even screwed up one of my years at uni because of it haha mainly because I was just lazy and couldn’t really give a shit about anything at the time). But I never really gave up. As I continued to draw and take photos, I began to get the hang of it and I started to love it! So besides taking photos, I guess one of my biggest passions would be to draw and design in general (This is actually a digital drawing that I had done this week). I think this will be the only drawing I will ever post as part of this project but I might do a 52 week project with drawings instead of photos (when I find the time haha)

Packing up the propellant and the new rocket builds for the desert. The pink Crayon piggy bank now sports an aluminum nozzle on the rear… and the minimum diameter 38mm bird will test the latest "mellow" and "pink" propellant from Cesaroni Aerospace Canada, eh! Those will be first flights for the girls.
The 3D-printer has been running every night to churn out fin cans for six young boys who will be launching rockets for the first time. I also have a 4"-diameter fin can there that I need to simulate as it pushes the limits of the Makerbot, and the fins are a bit stubby.
I have a boatload of night and day launches to pull off. The propellant alone includes a N5800, M3000, and a dozen L, K, H, and I motors. Each letter grade is a doubling of total impulse, and the M motor class is the largest that's legal in California. Hello Nevada!
Here's a fun video of the large bird I'll be focusing on...

Athletic Goddess! Nikon D810 Photos Pretty Swimsuit Bikini Fitness Model Goddess: Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM Art Lens for Nikon Cameras!
Loved shooting the awesome Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM Art Lens for Nikon Cameras! It was a bit tough sometimes to achieve optimum focus at F1.4 due to the shallow depth of field, but hey--not every eyelash has to be perfectly sharp! I could do it if I and the model were perfectly still, or F1.8 or F2.0 did the trick too. Kept switching it up! We had fun and she loves the photos! :)

A very odd shot, but I like it for some reason. Bad lighting and settings. I traveled 120 miles today and if anyone still doesn't think Mother Nature is sick from this drought...just follow my tracks. The best thing I saw today was a fertilizer truck with this sign on the back: "Another truckload of politician's promises" He wouldn't stop long enough for me to take the picture!!!!

On our holiday in Australia, Port Douglas July 24, 2014 Queensland, Australia.
Our first stop was Port Douglas where we had five wonderful days.
Port Douglas is a town in Far North Queensland, Australia, approximately 70 km (40 mi) north of Cairns. The town is named in honour of former Premier of Queensland, John Douglas. Port Douglas developed quickly based on the mining industry. Other parts of the area were established with timber cutting occurring in the area surrounding the Daintree River and with settlement starting to occur on lots around the Mossman River by 1880.
Previous names for the town included Terrigal, Island Point, Port Owen and Salisbury. The town is situated adjacent to two World Heritage areas, the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest.

For anyone interested, the technique I use to process these ultra-high ISO images is an Astrophotography processing technique in Photoshop called Luminance Layering where you work with a 4-layer LRGB image - Luminance, Red, Green, Blue.
Almost all the noise is contained within the Luminance layer, which is a black and white Greyscale layer, and not in the 3 colour layers. So the strategy is to separate the L layer from the RGB layers and do noise reduction on it and then recombine it with the colour layers.... easy peasy. This part of the process takes about 5-6 minutes, it's the colour matching and image tweaking that takes so much time. Sometimes, when even the best noise reduction program can't do the job, Luminance Layer might do the trick.
This might be a helpful analogy: Think of drawing a black-ink intricate line drawing. In addition to the lines add hundreds of tiny dots to simulate noise. Now colour over the black-ink drawing and dots with red, green and blue transparent colour paints mixing them together to give a variety of blended colours. This is very similar to a typical digital camera image. Now think of extracting only the black-ink lines and dots. Now remove only the dots and sharpen the lines. Finally, add this modified black and white image minus the dots back into the coloured image and voila!
Let me know if you're interested and I'll post the workflow here below.
HOW TO DO LUMINOSITY LAYERING IN PHOTOSHOP:
1. Convert the raw file of your image into a 16-bit Photoshop file. Don't do any processing on the raw file or Photoshop file yet.
2. Make a copy of the Photoshop file and open both files at the same time in Photoshop.
3. Extract the luminance layer from the copy by doing this:
Select Image>Mode>Lab Color. On the right side in the
Layers panel click on the Channels tab. Click on the
Lightness layer and select it by doing Selection>All.
4. Create a new blank file by doing File>New... and click OK.
5. Paste the copied Lightness layer on the new blank file.
6. Covert this new file with the Lightness layer in it to an RGB image by doing Image>Mode>RGB Color. Flatten image.
7. Open the RGB image in your favorite denoise reduction program or Photoshop plugin and denoise the image to your satisfaction. With ultra-noisey images you need to crank up the settings.
8. Copy the denoised RGB image and then paste it onto the top layer of the original image. You will now have a denoised black and white image on top of a noisy colour image.
9. Finally, set the Layer Blend Mode to Luminosity and play with the opacity settings until you're satisfied with the result.

So after borrowing the Harlot for a photoshoot meetup event at my studio I was invited to do a feature shoot of the bike for Show Class magazine. The magazine is a dedicated subscription monthly book about the chopper world. Die hards know about it, the average magazine rack at your local store does not. This was exciting because of the credibility that is involved with getting your bike featured in such a mag, so when Eric the owner contacted me and asked if I would shoot for it, I jumped at the chance.
Rather than doing the typical portraits of a chopper amongst an auto shop, or near some industrial estate, I thought we could do something a bit different. Lots of the back alleys and old houses in the neighborhood nearby offered an "off the mainstream path" sort of depiction without getting out of the city. Neighborhoods where these enthusiasts tinker in their small garages, simply because they love the craft and art of these bikes. Seeing the dirt, overgrowth, and alike, meant that this isn't some poser show bike; it's a bike that gets to ride and be seen. We decided on almost 20 images for the article, but these two I've included I thought really captured the vibe of the day, and the rest were detail shots that showcase the build of the bike.
@lifebypixels
made this video for geoges group of Landing around The World, while shooting i realized that taking part in this group you have to break air line rules that say you can't use electronic devices during take offs and landings. it always feels good to break the rules especially if you can blame someone else if you get caught.
sorry for the lack of color to this movie the camera was on a funny setting and was only picking up orange, never understood that mode its only really useful if you are going to remake schindler's list
this movie marks the beginning of me upload my munich trpe. i have just picked up 7 films worth today (5 lomo) and one more tomorrow also have about 3 gigabytes of digital stuff but i have stopped processing digital files until i get a new powerfuler computer because its painful processing large amounts of 5D image on a power book G4! 8 films and 3 gig not bad for 4 days.
