A couple of weeks ago I had a pretty fruitless trip to Norfolk Involving a 3.30am start and a 3 hour round trip. A quick trip down to Pin Mill on the Orwell 15 minutes from home on Saturday afternoon did produce a few keepers though... sometimes there's a lot to be said for shooting what's on your doorstep!

On The Wings of A Butterfly

by Corky Ferguson

Your friendship is special

Like the flowers that bloom,

Or when a butterfly emerges

From within its cocoon...

You remind me of that butterfly,

Loving and free,

Bright and colorful,

For the world to see...

We will share sunshine and rainbows;

Sometimes, the rain and the snow;

We'll stand together through it,

While the cold winds blow...

When the time is right,

We won't stop to ask "Why?"

Our friendship will take flight

On the wings of a butterfly ...

I hope you all had a great day today and I wish for you a wonderful night! I really like this shot and I hope you will too! I will be around to visit in just a little while!

Hugs,

Kim

This outfit just cries out for some leopard print Jimmy Choos and a matching bag.

Although I am no longer taking commissions, I couldn't turn down the chance for a custom dolly trade with my talented friend, Amy (Zaloa). So, here is the girl that I created for her.

Amy did the reroot using that beautiful pink mohair shown in the photo... She will reveal this girl as a whole once she is home. Can't wait to see her all put together! :)

Linda has been asking for a while for some bare leg pics so here are a few.

With hope that the process for an independent Catalonia can continue without any big conflict with the rest of Spain.

There is also a part of Catalonia to be found in south of France where the demand for liberty versus the French government is just not as strong as it is South of the Pyrenees.

Here some info from my blog about Catalonia:

There is presently a strong wish amongst the Catalans in Spain to become a new independent state in Europe, totally free from Spain.

The Catlans is not only present in North of Spain but also in the Southern part of France in the region Languedoc-Rousillon there are many Catalans living - even if they do not claim to be independent in the same way that they do in Spain. The photo above is from a Catalan dance group situated in Perpignan, France as they perform in the village Collioure by the foots of the Pyrenees and the shore of the Mediterranean in France.

Catalonia is a region situated in the North of Spain and the very South of France. As we have an apartment in South of France, we are well aware of the strong bounds that exists in the region from the Catalans and this gave the idea to build a little album with photos from our tours and stay in Catalonia of today.

This album was published under a tour in May 2014 - and will develop accordingly with our travels in Catalonia - France and Spain.

From the history of Catalonia:

In 711, the Moors crossed the Straits of Gibraltar and swept through the Iberian Peninsula. They captured Barcelona in 717 and then crossed the Pyrenees and went as far as Poitiers before being checked by the Franks. In desperation the inhabitants of what was to become Catalonia turned to Charlemagne, the powerful Frankish leader for help in return for pledging allegiance to the Carolingian Empire. Girona was retaken in 785 and Barcelona in 801, and the province of the Spanish March, a buffer zone between Christian France and Muslim Hispania, was born.

The Spanish March was governed by local counts, who had political and judicial functions but were ultimately responsible to the Frankish king and were appointed and could be dismissed by him. The most powerful of these counts was Guifre el Pelós who managed to unite the counties of Urgell, Cerdanya, Girona and Barcelona, and so controlled a swathe of land that stretched from Barcelona to Perpignan along the coast and inland to the Pyrenees. It was Guifre’s son, Guifre Borrell, who became the first hereditary ruler of Catalunya Vella, Old Catalonia. The next step on the road to nationhood came in 985 when the Moors, under Al-Mansour, managed to cross the River Llobregat and sack Barcelona. Having received no military support from the Franks, Count Borrell II declared independence, and although not recognised by the Franks until 1258, an independent state called Catalonia was born.

The next two centuries were spent consolidating their territory and pushing the Moors south towards the Ebro, and in 1137 Count Ramon Berenguer IV married Petronella, the infant daughter of the King of Aragon. His son, Alfons I, became the ruler of the most powerful state in Southern Europe, the Catalan-Aragonese Confederation, which consisted of Catalonia, Aragon and the whole of the south of France. With considerable help from the Knights Templar, the Moorish threat became a thing of the past.

This one's especially for Regina, who said the last image I posted of this frog reminded her of someone who's short sighted and has lost their glasses. He's definitely the Mr Magoo of the frog world! On the other hand, give him a break ... he's nocturnal. To be fair, I don't think I would look any better if someone woke me up at 2am. :))

I'm off tomorrow for a week's holiday in North Wales, so I won't be online for a little while. I wish everyone a happy week.

Our reward for clambering up The Struggle was lunch in the pub. The Kirkstone Pass Inn has a sign over the door claiming it dates from the 15th century. The present building is probably a bit later but retains a circular stone staircase at the rear, opposite the front door. The view is from what may have been an outer room, on the lower side of the building. Whatever it's date of construction it is situated at one of the highest points in Britain. While were there the electricity, provided by a wind turbine, failed causing the bar staff to have to start the back up generator, and the water mains were out of action which meant bottled water had to be used for beverages other than beer etc.

Taken for ODC theme pushing. I am pushing for Spring. I just love gardening and can't wait for Spring, in the meantime I brought this little daisy outside yesterday for a photo op.

I can't believe I carried this to the most remote spot on earth for you...along with your tennis shoes to throw over an electrical line, which I just couldn't bring myself to do...funny as it would have been.

For use of spare parts only is this former United Coaches Mercedes mini coach F725 USF seen here while being manovered around the yard, it's already had all its seats removed in which its engine and other components will follow shortly.

Fight for Survival

Today is World Polar Bear Day, an annual event celebrated every February 27 to raise awareness about the conservation status of the polar bear.

Internationally, polar bears are listed as a vulnerable species by the IUCN. The primary conservation concern for polar bears is habitat loss and reduced access to their seal prey due to climate change. Scientists predict that as the Arctic continues to warm, two-thirds of the world's polar bears could disappear within this century. Research also shows that hope remains if action is taken to greatly reduce greenhouse gas emissions soon.

But while most people think that global warming is the overhanging threat to polar bear survival, it is actually the continuation of unsustainable hunting pressure that is driving the species towards extinction.

More than 600 (!) bears are killed per year by humans across Canada alone, the vast majority by indigenous Inuit people, a rate calculated by scientists to be unsustainable. Lack of courage and honesty from environmental groups and politicians is allowing this scenario to continue.

Morten Joergensen has written an important book about ALL the threats polar bears are facing, and with very urgent recommendations: Polar Bears on the Edge: Heading for Extinction while Management Fails.

We made a quick trip to Cody for groceries. Next time I want to spend more time in and around Cody as there is a lot to photograph. We did stop to shoot the Smith Mansion. It is an enigmatic multi-story structure about half way between Cody, Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park.

Francis Lee Smith began building the house in 1971. He had no plan; he just started building and couldn't stop. The structure is built from fire damaged lodge pole pine and other materials scrounged from the surrounding area. The only electricity was from a long extension cord connected to a pole along the highway below. A tangle of additional extension cords powered various rooms in the house.

The builders wife and children moved into town and visited on weekends. He kept building additional floors, stairways and balconies, furniture and metal sculptures as the mood struck and supplies were available. He lived without running water or plumbing until he slipped off an upper balcony in 1992 and died. For awhile his daughter made efforts to raise funding to preserve the house. That effort failed. As the structure has been vacant for almost 25 years it has become more and more deteriorated and unsafe.

The Smith Mansion and the surrounding 10 acres went on the market for $750,000 in August, 2018. Act now to make this unique property yours!

Il 30 settembre di 22 anni fa i Simply Red pubblicavano "Stars".

In quell'album c'era anche questo capolavoro di dolcezza

Testo

You've got that look again

The one I hoped I had when I was a lad

Your face is just beaming

Your smile got me boasting, my pulse roller-coastering

Anyway the four winds that blow

They're gonna send me sailing home to you

Or I'll fly with the force of a rainbow

The dream of gold will be waiting in your eyes

You know I'd do most anything you want

Hey I, I try to give you everything you need

I can see that it gets to you

I don't believe in many things

But in you I do

Her faith is amazing

The pain that she goes through contained in the hope for you

Your whole world has changed

The years spent before seem more cloudy than blue

In many ways your baby's controlling

When you haven't laid down for days

For the poor no time to be thinking

They're too busy finding ways

You know I'd do most anything you want

Hey I, I try to give you everything you need

I'll see that it gets to you

I don't believe in many things

But in you I do

You know I'd do most anything you want

Everyday I, I try to give you everything you need

We'll always be there for you

I don't believe in many things

But in you I do

Everybody is fighting breast cancer!

My daughter with the photography degree loves this, it doesn't work with most of my shots, but I thought this was okay for a first attempt at post processing fake tilt shift. Hope you like it kiddo!

Three clouds for three cows...

When I jumped off from the wood pile, after shooting a self portrait (see below), I realised I had three fans waiting for me!! :D

Have a great weekend!

Aspettandomi...!

Tre nuvole per tre mucche...

Quando sono saltato giù dal cumulo di legname, una volta scattato un autoritratto (vedi sotto), mi sono accorto che c'erano delle ammiratrici ad aspettarmi!! :D

Buon weekend!

So it begins......a changing of seasons....of longer days which will slowly bring us through this season, which for me and other Northern Hemispherians is Winter (Hemispherians is not a word, I just made it up but it sounds good to me!)

Winter is not any longer than say Spring, Fall or Summer but it sure as well feels like it!

This Winter here started early, which is frustrating unless you are really into dry, cold air, overheated houses, salt stains, chapped lips, static electricity or other lovely attributes of the season.....Mind you I do love some parts of this season

**Oh and Vicky its with you in mind that I say this as I forgot to reply to you..**

I do love the beauty, the force of nature, the sparkles, the sun as it hits the crisp icicles

and refracts a gorgeous blue sky...the way smoke from the chimney's hang low in the sky on a very cold day...the way color pops in such a neutral landscape.....the crunch crunch as you walk

Then again.......who needs to be splashed by slush as some car ignores you as a pedestrian (and it is usually muddy slush.....) or that darned neighbor who refuses to shovel his share of the sidewalk or when you stumble in the snow and lose your keys or when the tips of your fingers feel like they are on fire when in reality they are freezing and you are near to be getting frostbite !! Or when no matter how many layers you put on......you cannot chase the chills aways

Oh I am sure I could think of more things

I am sure we all could who live in the Northern Climes

Whatever you celebrate or wherever you are........have a happy solstice !!

:~)

One last Fall shot for the road !

I would like to dedicate this to Vicky

For Mother's Day we were going to have a very messy meal, so I went to our local Ocean State Job Lot to purchase an oil cloth for the table . . . The dollar plates and mugs were too good to pass up, especially since we were going to have lobster for dinner! Little did I realize how much fun I'd have after the table was set!

Since it reminded me so much of the bottom of the sea, I played with the image in an abstract kinda way.

Strange but true!

“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”

― Marilyn Monroe

My dear friend Amber and I had been talking about this concept for a while and when we both had the time to get together we created a short series of images of this woman at her own burial. This is the first of that series, I'll be posting more soon!
