Phoenix, AZ - Nothing quite like gold panning Old West style. This is located at the Pioneer Living History Museum. It’s bigger than I thought (90 acres) and well worth the visit. Most buildings (are original) have been moved from other parts of the state which gives this town a feeling of authenticity. You couldn’t help but image what it was like for people who lived in the west during the mid to late 1800s. If the weather didn’t kill you, disease did. Still can’t wrap my head around the idea of drinking warm beer.
Experimenting with water soluble pencil, pen, pencil, Inktense pencil, and watercolor in my art journal. This one was definitely an effort to follow my instincts and use what materials I was drawn to...I really enjoyed that process, which is how I used to art journal. Beyond just being in a flow, but really trusting my hand and whatever ideas or inspiration came through while making art.

This aerial image looks quite 'busy' with so many places that you can see...... I hope the following description will help!
Mt RAINIER is right up (off screen) at the far top right hand corner of this image.
The township of BONNEY LAKE is lower right of the screen.
The river you see here is the WHITE RIVER and another township - BUCKLEY is at the top, centre of the image.
Now, right down at the bottom of the image are a few oval shaped islands ...... that is LAKE TAPPS and the TAPPS ISLAND GOLF COURSE.
You may like to look at this area using GOOGLE MAPS and type in LAKE TAPPS...... view it in Terrain or Satellite.

Part of an ongoing project, I am exploring the flow of wood. I’m fascinated with how wood flows like water and then lignifies, looking like glaciers, whirlpools, boiling whitewater, hair, and having intriguing textures. I love the tension of frozen movement. I imagine the force of water resisting the external forces on the tree, like water careening through rocks and other obstacles.
