The floating bridge connects the two sides of Willemstad, Curacao. The bridge floats on pontoons and "opens" for boat traffic. Here's a sequence of photos showing the bridge opening for a boat to pass.

 

The bridge operator actually "drives" the end of the bridge like a boat (he's in the cabin).

Mercer Island is in the middle foreground; behind it is Bellevue and the Cascade Mountains.

A film crew from the Travel Channel visited the SR 520 floating bridge in January for a documentary called "Forbidden Access." The Seattle episode of the documentary series is tentatively scheduled to air in September 2011.

I waited out the rush-hour traffic chaos today and had a fast drive home at 7:30, with a nice sunset too.

This was the last trip that I made on the old bridge. It was a few days before it was shut down to be replaced. Lots of cranes working on stuff.
