The Marcola float at parade in Eugene Oregon ca 1918----The first Christian Church in background was built in 1911 and would now be 99 years old---Notice the pretty Goddess of Liberty atop the float which are probably now extinct as I have not seen a Goddess in a long time.

The Round Table Christmas Float

These volunteers do a superb job of raising money for local charities by doing things like this - well done all of you!

A somewhat different subject matter to what your used to seeing on my photostream! It was a pleasure, and somewhat of a challenge to photograph.

A combination of Lightpainting and Strobe shots have gone into this one. Shot in near darkness bar the spill from that streetlamp, oh its about -2 out too!

Bamboodu Float by Fabrice Florin

I am creating an art float with friends and neighbors for this year’s Mill Valley Memorial Day Parade.

Our float for this parade features the Bamboodu Theater, a mobile puppet stage I created for civic events and art shows. Our first show stars Lady Liberty and Mr. Trump. As music plays, a Mr. Trump’s recent tweets and alternative facts appear on a news ticker. Each time Trump says something wrong, Liberty hits him on his thick, bobbing head.

As we march, we will invite parade watchers to sing along the inspiring poem by Emma Lazarus about the Statue of Liberty (“Give me your tired, your poor …”). Through this interactive art experience, we hope to engage people of all ages to change the world through civic action.

I am building this float with a wonderful team at the Mill Valley Community Action Network (MVCAN), a local political group which I recently joined to resist the conservative takeover of our country.

I’m very grateful to all our friends and neighbors who are helping bring it to life: Danny Altman, Laura Boles, Jean Bolte, Phyllis Florin, David Glad, Peter Graumann, Edward Janne, Suz Lipman, Jean Marie Murphy and Mark Petrakis, to name but a few.

Our Bamboodu Float is coming along beautifully, and I can’t wait to show it off at the parade on Monday, May 29, 2017.

Join your neighbors to keep democracy alive!

"Bigfoot" - Float #14 by Kim

Founded in 1996, Le Krewe d'Etat features 21 floats, including a special signature High Priest Float. Its floats adhere to a traditional style of design that impart Le Krewe d'Etat's satirical theme, which has been voted "Best of Carnival" by critics. The Captain and officers ride on horseback throughout the parade.

In the tradition of Carnival, secrecy is very important to Le Krewe d'Etat. The identity of the ruler - the Dictator - is never revealed to the public, and the theme is secret until parade day.

The krewe's signature throw is the blinking logo skull bead. Le Krewe d'Etat was the first krewe to throw a blinking bead. They also publish the D'Etat Gazette, a bulletin with pictures and descriptions of the floats that is available only at the parade. Members of the krewe dressed as walking skeletons hand out the papers and wooden doubloons at the parades.

This organization is formed by 415 male riders.

Per Le Krewe d'Etat:

Aux armes, citoyens! The Revolution is upon us once again as Le Krewe d’État proudly rolls out its annual procession of satire and sarcasm. Herewith, is our Bulletin to augment your enjoyment of our rolling tableau of fools and their foibles.

Finger float by Forest Service Alaska Region, USDA

The Forest Service will be installing a new 77.5’ x 13.5’ finger float on the Tonka dock about 8 miles south of Petersburg on Kupreanof Island sometime in the next week or so. The attached photo shows the dock sitting on a truck at the manufacturers plant in Bellingham, WA. The dock will be trucked to Seattle where it will placed on an AML barge to Petersburg. Once it is in Petersburg, it will be transported to Tonka where a large crane will lift it over the top of 3 existing piles. Photo courtesy of Shoreside Marinas.

Float Bedroom by TemaHome - Living Your Dreams

The Float collection sports modern geometric lines, making it a neat update bedroom set. The base of the bed is recessed and therefore not visible to your average viewpoint, giving the impression that the elements are actually floating. An elegant contemporary choice, the Float collection offers a range of complements such as chest of drawers, choices of night tables and much more.
