Roadside pictures on the way back from western PA.

I was visiting my brother in Florida late Feb. 2008, and we went to the zoo. This toucan flew over, and sat on a ledge about 2 feet away & started eating grapes. This photo is unedited & not cropped.

This is the original angle that I envisioned. I decided to first post the POV that Lookatit (Bob) suggested, as it felt very fresh.

Over time, the original angle started to grow on me, especially this take. I like the somewhat different impact and associations. I also like how the corners of this wide angle shot are filled with the buildings that seem to bow and look down. What do you think?

I got the idea for this photo from several photos that I have seen on Flickr (more on that later). My original idea was to take the photo from the side. Lookatit (Bob) suggested to lay on the ground and take this scene from below - a very good idea, thanks, Bob.

Inspiration

========

I got the idea for this shot mainly from two photos that I had seen on Flickr.

Recently I saw alessandro silipo's image twice. A very simple, but effective shot of a pair of feet and legs in stockings. That made me think to do something simple with hands and arms.

Longer ago already, I also faved pumpkinoodle's She Can't Wait To Let Go!. That showed me what you can do with a balloon set against a cloudy sky. When I was in Finland, I purchased a set of big size balloons from a party store, to use as photo prop. Because there was no blue in the sky, I picked a red balloon, though, instead of orange.

I used 2 flashes. One 580EX MkII next to camera as master. A 580EX at full power (1/1) on a Manfrotto monopod as a slave. Slave flash was held high by the already tall rheauchyr I used the built-in Canon Speedlite IR communication to trigger the secondary flash.

i noticed this petition is circulating around this morning.

even if you LIKE the new changes to flickr, please show your support for the community by saying that you would like your friends and contacts who feel differently to be able to opt out the new flickr!

many of my contacts and friends have stopped posting or have moved their photos to other websites. this is dividing and breaking up the flickr community which hurts all of us - including the people who do like the new version of flickr.

I got the general idea for this shot and perhaps series after I saw Saguaro here on Flickr.com by JHutch.

I know, it''s not quite the same image, but you can probably follow my train of thought.

I got very welcome assistance with keeping the prop airborne from Marja, who happens to be a professional photographer. She was passing by and offered her help. Thanks again, Marja.

I used two flashes. Canon Speedlite 580EX MkII with Omnibounce on a bracket left of the camera, set as master. On a light stand about 2m (6 ft) on the right, I had a 580EX (MkI) in slave mode. I used Canon's built-in IR triggering mechanism.

It was beautiful sunny day. For me, the best thing about this park is the pond. Beautiful green hills decorated by spring blossoms, ducks playing around, birds chirping, I tired to capture this moment on my canvas. Even though, I was disturbed by loud teenagers, I was applauded by some good pedestrians. I always enjoy painting in this location.!

Taken at the Goldfish Pond at the Como Conservatory (now called the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory) in St. Paul, Minnesota. 011_3 (photoshopped)

Those of us in Minnesota live with long, snowy, icy & bitterly cold winters. The Como Conservatory, in St Paul, is one place that many of us go to "see something growing or green" in the dead of winter.

Inviting you all to my house for Christmas is a physical impossibility so the only way I can think of doing it is to let you all in through my lounge window !!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there throughout this year on flickr. I hope I've not forgotten anyone, but if I have ....IT MEANS YOU'VE NOT VISITED MY PAGE IN AGES !!! Just joking .... if you can't find yourself let me know and I'll do something about it. So see if you can find yourself, because you've been many this year, and leave a note on your icon which in turn will leave a link to your gallery. A huge hug and kiss to you all and Merry Christmas !!!! xxx

In the quiet of a corner, the child’s gaze carries both fragility and defiance — a story of solitude told through eyes that speak louder than words. This black and white fine art portrait captures vulnerability and strength in equal measure, holding the viewer in its intensity. A study in emotion, silence, and resilience, framed through light, shadow, and stillness.

About the new image... I think it will take some time to get used :)

1. Hey, Hey, Whaddya know, I'm surprised no one found this except me.

4. I'm sorry for making this mess. I promise I'll clean it up. This is my day, I am one lucky doggy.

(luvhumpbacks' winning entry in the mindreading Sheila-contest - alternative interpretations can be found in the comments section below )

Netherlands, Rotterdam. Flickr Meetup Kop van Zuid April 2007. Local dog Sheila.

We were having a coffee break at a pavement during the meetup. Local dog Sheila knows hows to take care of her own needs. She found a milk carton next to one of the tables. She seems quite smart doesn't she?

Are you familiar with what animals think? Can you read your pet's mind? Did you major in Canine Psychology?

Let's play a game. Fill in the blanks and tell us your take on Sheila's thoughts during each of the 4 frames. Replace the dots with Sheila's thoughts in English.

1. .....

2. .....

3. .....

4. .....

You need a Flickr account to join. Enter your entry as a comment, so all can enjoy.

The following contest is now closed, however you can still leave your take on Sheila's thoughts or write other comments, of course

The person who comes up with the funniest or most remarkable lines will receive a small poster size print (20x30cm / 7.8" x 11.8") of this photo by mail. The closing date for this contest is (now: was) Sunday June 17 2007 11PM GMT.

An independent jury will pick out the winner. The winner will be anounced on this page. I shall contact the winner by Flickr mail. Good luck!

Exactly what I'm wishing for you all - a very Happy 2009, where all your dreams come true and a bit besides !! Once again if I have forgotten anyone, I apologize. If you are sitting there wondering why I've chosen a plate of grapes for todays image ....... in Spain the tradition on New Years Eve is with each of the 12 chimes of the clock at midnight you should eat a grape - for every one you manage to chew and swallow in time it means a month of luck in the forthcoming year ...... I always choke .... no wonder I'm so unlucky - hahaha !!! Here's to another year all together on Flickr - hugs n cuddles to you all ;)
