Struggling to upload...again! Here's my new spotty look. The dress is new, the coat I had already. Had to get this dress as they match SO well. More from this look, and others as soon as Flickr behaves itself. So glad I'm not paying for this service.
Flickr appears to wants to make a touch/tablet optimized site. That is fine, do that in the the flickr Apps, don't force that on everyone. What they have done to commenting reduces the ability to interact with your contacts in favor of near full screen images and short superficial commenting. If the new version of Flickr is even similar to the current beta, Ipernity is going to become a lot more popular. I guess I need to remember my login info. Add me as a contact over there just in case. I don't want to leave flickr, but may be forced to.

I am sure new flickr will still look terrible, but with enough feedback it may still be usable for people who want to have meaningful discussion with our contacts. Flickr is listening to the minor issues posted on that forum, but they seem convinced new flickr will be black and all user interaction will be on the side of the screen. It doesn't take much time to vote, commenting isn't required. But please do something to show flickr this is a bad idea. This protest alone won't show them they are going in the wrong direction. Voting on the issues might.
Hardly anyone liked the last change, but this change will make that look like nothing. If flickr goes through with this Enhanced Photo Experience, there will be nothing left of the service we love. Flickr beta is not a photo service I want to be part of. Its likely that a huge portion of flickr's users don't care about commenting and real user interaction, but those of us who do are what keep flickr active. Without us, flickr will be nothing but a photo storage site. Every other site is pushing the social aspect and flickr is removing it.
Instead of perfecting the design of their sites with small improvements over time, Yahoo likes to completely change designs frequently. Yahoo Mail changes about every 6 months and upsets and confuses users ever time and always introduces new bugs. Even Yahoo employees prefer not to use Yahoo webmail. Every Yahoo mail user I know complains about the frequent changes. Yahoo needs to understand we don't want a constantly changing flickr. Improvements are necessary too keep up with competitors, but change for the sake of change is not. If we wanted that much change, we would be using the competitors instead of flickr.
The end of Pro users accounts was certainly done to bring them more ad revenue, but those of us who paid were some of the most active users. We create the content and viewer traffic they hope to make money on. Community interaction is what drives many of us to continue posting new work. Stuffing all the user interaction into the corner of the screen will discourage interaction. Kill the community and this will just be a place to dump your memory card when it gets full. Most people could never fill up 1 terabyte of space.
A few of the problems with New Experience Flickr:
Pressing enter submits comments and creating new lines requires Shift+Enter.
New lines (paragraphs) are not displayed in comments.
Comment area to type or read is tiny (twitter like).
Comments don't display images anymore.
Comments are displayed in reverse order (newest at the top).
Only the most recent few comments are displayed.
Long comments must be clicked on to read the whole thing.
Only short description is visible until clicking for more.
Hashtags #allruntogether instead of just normal readable tags (trying to be trendy).
It is hard to see who has favorited your photo.
You can't see group invitations anymore.
Admins can't do group invites anymore.
The add to groups popup only lets you scroll through the groups (no search).
Following instead of Contacts (more copying the trendy young sites).
The huge photos and heavy javascript are bad for slow connections.

Editors Note...
Once a year a pull out a few sets from years past to start of the new year. In 2024 this year I have went back & revamped one of my favorite severe storms photo shoots of 2018
Back then I over colorized & over saturated the images. Pixelated & not my best work... Images were what I wanted but not the final product. If you want to see those to compare to these remastered images... here is your Flickr Link to that set of images...
But these are Gems of Gems.. I've even added about 50+ images in this set that I wasn't able to work on back in 2018. I even made a video with the old images to kick off the 2023 season... Lightning is my forte... It is why I chase storms. To have an photo opportunity come up like this & traveled only 6 blocks from my home to get these pics...Gotta Luv Nebraska!

About that evening...
An epic night of sunset light and storm light @ twilight. Its almost every storm chasers dreams... or at least, in my own opinion, to get along side of a storm like this, as its firing away some incredible CC & CG every few seconds. What more could you ask for...
I was that Lucky Guy that evening. Just mother nature and I. Close to home after a few long storm chasing jaunts is just fine by me. She was producing and I was capturing every incredible second of this storm.. No Forking Bolt went away that evening without me getting a snap of its presence..

I am fortunate - I am actually still with an older Mac and Safari version. HOWEVER, I also have firefox installed (and a PC at work) whereby I can visually see the new format and I find it incredibly hard to navigate) and so, to that end, don't bother!
I, THANKFULLY, have an option. Most others here to not. Please give them the choice. They are your customers, are they not Flickr? Please do not spoil a good thing.

On a bright day, MAX livery can look very appealing. Here we see ARRIVA Buses Wales VDL Pulsar 2654 - CX07 CUH setting off from Rhyl on route 51 to Denbigh, Lenten Pool. Compare this shot to one of the same vehicle taken a few months ago:

I have been on Flickr since 2009. I have learned so much my browsing everyone's photos and I have some streams that are my favorites. A particular "feel" about the pictures. I want to thank everyone so much, I can't even say exactly what, learning about macro photography, lightning photography, Photo Shop or other programs, closeup nature shots, infrared photography, Polaroid and Polaroid-type photography. There are so many things that have influence my love for photography, I can't even think of them all now. I want everyone to know, that I appreciate your views and comments and faves in my stream. I love Flickr and the people on Flickr. Thank you so much.
I appreciate all my Flickr friends, some I have known since 2009 when I started Flickr. Some I have met in fact, I think that is so cool. I feel like a lot of the people of Flickr are really friends and really care. So thank you. But I also appreciate just everyone who takes the time to click on and look at my photo, they all may not be great. A lot of the time I post stuff just to get if off my phone to free up space, regardless if it is a good photo or not. Other times I make a Diligent effort to post photos that are "good". There are so many people on Flickr that are better than me. But they have all given me encouragement. Only a few negative and discouraging things have happened in Flickr to me since 2009, so for that I am grateful. You all have have been wonderful and I hope you read this.
Look closely to spot this well-camouflaged female Northern Flicker at her nest in Montpelier, Idaho. Flickers are woodpeckers that nest in cavities they excavate in trees. I was very lucky to spot this hole, and learned that it was an active nest after waiting a few minutes for the bird to arrive.

A Paducah powered work train rolls past the old depot in Peotone as it heads north for home at Woodcrest. This is the picture that is missing from the previous spot. I have no idea what happened. Flickr ate my picture.....
