I'm happy to participate in this action, which I hope influences decisions at Yahoo as to Flickr's future. I do not like having the right-hand column as a distraction from the photo itself, and I do not like that comments and groups are treated in such an insignificant way. Reading in reversed-out type on black is difficult! Finally, I want to be able to choose to see photos as thumbnails of different sizes rather than only the justified display, which loads so slowly.

An odd thing has happened on Flickr recently but first let me tell you about this Common Buzzard. I have been trying for years to photograph one perched at close range but they are so skittish they always seem to fly off before I can get anywhere near them. My wife spotted this one in a field as we were driving past and she reversed back so I could point my camera through a tiny gap in the hedge. It quickly flew into a roadside tree further down the road and I managed a second shot of it here: www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/52486730413/in/dateposted/
Now this second photograph never went onto Explore but it has been getting thousands of views every day. This morning it stood at 37,202 views, which is about twice as many as this Eagle I posted the day before which was on Explore: www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/52482485347/in/photostream/ But the really odd thing is that the views do not register on my daily stats so I cannot investigate the source of these views, yet they appear in my all-time stats, so the Buzzard is currently number 41 in my all-time most viewed photos. Bizarrely the same thing has happened to a rather ordinary photograph of Marbled Murrelets I posted a few days earlier. It had very modest numbers of faves and comments, yet it has been amassing thousands of views every day: www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/52471619821/in/dateposted/ This one has reached 44,444 which makes it currently number 32 in my all-time most viewed photos. Yet the views do not register on my daily statistics.
For information views on my photos usually subside after a few days, unless I happen to include certain words in my write-up that people put in Flickr's search engine looking for something else. My best example is this Jay that I posted a couple of years ago: www.flickr.com/photos/timmelling/51129407737/in/dateposted/ There are two separate words that are regularly searched for on Flickr (you can probably guess what they are if you read my write-up) and this photo consistently gets more than 100 views each day, and these do appear in my daily stats. It is currently on 74,153. But my Buzzard and Murrelets have nothing in the write-ups that people might warrant this level of searching.
I just couldn't find the chain I wanted to use for this weeks theme, so in the end used the chain from my cross. Turned it to mono as it looked better, or I think it does.
Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites.
This pencil sharpener was used by my father in the years

THIS NEW FLICKR S*CKS!
Nobody told me when I renewed my pro account...I'm totally disappointed.
Everything is more complicated and has less options...at least we can choose the appearance of our gallery, contacts, fav before...now we have to use this without any other option??? WHY FLICKR, WHY????
THIS IS A MESS
Put the Canon FD 28mm 3.5 SC lens that is stuck at f3.5 on a reverse macro ring on the Canon 5D Mark II and took it out to get some shots of snowflakes on my mitten.
Thanks for visiting my little space here on Flickr.

A Flickr Friday submission on the topic "Bubbles". Soap bubbles on a lightbox, and physicists will be pleased to see Newton's Rings on the large bubble.
A close-up of calcium ridges highlighted by colorful microbes in the hostile environment of Mammoth Hot Springs. This is travertine in the making.
You're a carousel, you're a wishing well,
And you light me up, when you ring my bell.
You're a mystery, you're from outer space,
You're every minute of my everyday.
Maybe flickr fall for that and stop to be such an @*#¨$%@
Oh, btw, the song is super cute ♥!
