Fill Flash HSS made easy. Put the camera in MANUAL mode. (You might even want to measure the in-falling light (incident light metering) in order to set a proper speed and aperture on the camera. This will help you to disregard a bright or dark background and such). Use the camera +/- correction to change the TTL flash output to your liking. In MANUAL mode the +/- camera setting won't change the basic exposure (aperture and shutter speed are unchanged), but will only affect the flash light. You don't HAVE TO use HSS flash - only if the shutter speed is faster than normal SYNC speed - otherwise you can use a normal TTL flash mode.
Please note that all the MINUS and the ZERO settings (4 top shots) make very nice final exposures.
Especially useful for group portraits and such, where the ambient light don't change much. Not for casual snap shots, naturally.
First portrait attempt using the Nissin Flash attached to my D60 , tilted the head toward the ceiling , et voila , the subject is (quite) evenly lit...............
Special thanks to my partner Shelley for modelling ...........

Fotos do Flash mob realizado no casamento de Camila e Marcio, na Green House Buffet. O flash mob de casamento foi planejado pelos noivos e familiares e coreografado por um professor de dança meses antes do casamento. A música escolhida para o flash mob foi "You can dance" do Abba.
We have a 3 week project in the studio where we have to do portraits of each other. These are just some test shots from the first session
* Throwing some light on the subject gave the image some extra "pop" *
The goal for this trip to Longwood was to experiment with off camera flash. I've had some RF flash triggers for awhile but decided it was time to do some experiments. The Nikon SB-600 was being used in manual mode. The amount of light hitting the subject was being controlled by three variables, 1) power, 2) direction, and 3) distance from the subject. In some cases the flash was set to 1/16th power and the intensity was still to much so the distance had to be increased. The camera was set to "P" and in some cases we had exposure compensation set to -2 which darkened backgrounds. These flash triggers do not support iTTL so camera settings were unchanged by the flash. No light modifiers or reflectors were used.
EIGHT Electricity vehicles at the substation near the bottom of my garden, on December 15th 2011.
The maintenance man at the Rest Home on the next corner rang up to ask why the power kept on dipping on this day.
"There is NO FAULT in your area", the operative said.
Meanwhile I had taken this photo as I went to the shops. NO fault, eh? They erected a tent over the substation, so perhaps it was just a festive drinks party.
So when I visited the home later in the day I showed the pic. He rang up again and was told once more "There is NO FAULT in your area"! Meanwhile the residents were having to put up with being half in the dark unexpectedly and repeatedly.
The following week in the paper it was reported it was a fuse. That's why we needed eight vehicles.
Not a good pic, but an interesting true story. Just shows that 'record shots' can be important.

This is Flash, a yearling at the Triple C Farm. Even though he's the youngest and smallest in the gelding paddock, he thinks he's the 'alpha male', trying to control the big boys. Fun to watch their antics!
Flash firing on 2nd curtain while KP spinning...
This was an experiment after I was testing what would happen if I was moving while firing flash on 2nd curtain on a 'long' exposure...interested in comments about the technique and outcome not the image itself.
