The Alaska District’s Safety Office provided employees with training in first aid, CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator, or AED, Dec.3 in Anchorage. Shown here, Ken McInally (left) and Graham Foreman (right), civil engineers in the Geotechnical and Materials Section, practice their skills on a test mannequin. The organization has six AEDs installed in the headquarters building and another 13 at various area and field offices around the state. All three members of the Safety Office are certified instructors through the Health and Safety Institute’s MEDIC First Aid Training Program. They conduct this training on an annual basis to renew the certification for the district’s 95 emergency responders and new volunteers. Training not only ensures an adequate number of responders for each AED unit, but also provides the necessary skills to provide first response emergency assistance at remote project sites. For district employees in Fairbanks, sessions are scheduled Dec.11-12.

I made this first aid kit using the pattern for the No Cash Wallet in Amy Karol's Bend The Rules Sewing. I adjusted the size a bit to hold bandages, alcohol pads and ointment. Perfect size to carry in your purse or diaper bag!
Blogged at The Plaid Post.
