Fall, my favorite time of year, are at it's most beautiful right now. Visisting my father in law's cabin this weekend, it was time to really put my brand new 5D Mkll to the test. And standing in as a model, I think our newest family member Kaisa did an outstanding job.
The image has only been cropped a tiny bit, else it's ROOC. No sharpening or color enhancement applied.
The quality performed by the 5D and the 70-200 f/4 is simply awesome. The details are so clean and crisp, better than I have ever seen before.
My only problem now is the file size. :-) Unloading a 8GB card took almost 30 minutes through an old USB 2.0 reader. Maybe it's time to upgrade to Firewire 800...

USB, FireWire...
These days you've gotta know your ports if you want to be able to make the right connection. But with so many different types of cables and ports this can be a daunting task.
Someone once related this whole deal of cables, ports and connections with a toy we had as kids. Remember the ones where you'd have to fit the right block through its corresponding shape? Ports and plugs I was told are the same way. All it really takes is fitting the right cable with the right shaped port, that easy.
I on the other hand like to relate the case of cables and ports with finding your match, your soulmate, the love of your life. Albeit a bit tougher than just having to find the right shape it really does boil down to the same principle. When looking for "the one", don't try to force a square into a circle, because even if it doesn't seem so right now, there's a square set aside specifically for you.

Update 28 October 2016.
I've gotten a new Mac. I'm in the process of getting the thousands of photo files in the right places across various drives so that when I finally install Lightroom, it will be able to find all of them.
This new Mac has different connectors than my old ones. I had to get Thunderbolt (cool name, eh?) to Firewire adapters, and Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cables in order to be able to have the new computer connect to all the external hard drives and the now defunct Mac.
I'm thinking tomorrow will be the day that I get to load Lr and Ps!

With Tuesdays announcement I was so disappointed with what Apple had done to the iMac line, specifically the 21.5'' model, I went out and bought the previous generation from Stormfront in York.
The new 2012 21.5'' model has been made substantially worse. It has a much slower 5400RPM hard drive, no user upgradable ram, but the biggest nail in the coffin for me was the lack of an optical drive. Apple also had the cheek to charge £99 more for the new one over the previous model. I shoot wedding photography and am currently in the process of archiving old family VHS tapes onto DVD so an optical drive is a must, the lack of FireWire on the new ones is also a bit annoying. I know you can buy an external optical disk drive and thunderbolt firewire adaptor, but why should I even need to? Especially for a desktop machine, making it thin is as pointless as a chocolate fireguard.
The iMac I went for was the basic spec 2.5Ghz and its a million times faster than the old 2.53Ghz C2D in my MBP. I'm intending soon to put in 32GB RAM and i'll be all set. Maybe a external thunderbolt drive when costs come down too.
