The kiss sweetest
And touch so warm
The smile kindest
In this world so cold and strong
So close to the flame
Burning brightly
It won't fade away
And leave us lonely
The arms safest
And words, so good
The faith deepest
In this world so cold and cruel
So close to the flame
Burning brightly
It won't fade away
And leave us lonely

After fruitlessly cycling around in The Camargue, I felt exhausted and decided to come back to Arles and desperately looked for a place to sleep. Unfortunately, all the hotels were complet. With disappointment, I headed back to the train station. As it turned out, I was 'lucky' not to have found a room because that gave me a chance to encounter these entertaining fire blowers.
Taken with a disposable camera.

It's cold and raining tonight, so I lit the first fire of the winter. And sure enough, the fire-worshipping little hairball moved in on the warmth...
Nikon F2, 135mm lens, Ektachrome 100. This is the San Diego Aerospace Museum fire in 1978 or so. I lived only four blocks from it. These were the press photos I shot for an underground newspaper, the first photos they printed in colour.
