A daycare center that fortunately was closed turned into an all nighter for B.F.D companies 1, 2, 3 , Truck 1 and Rescue 2. The alarm was transmitted at about 3:00 A.M
Photo was taken from the Alpha / Delta corner of building 2 after fire had already had it's way with another 2500 sq ft, one story structure.

When I was 18 a foster child set fire to our home. I was upstairs and heard the smoke alarm go off, I came running down to find the living room ablaze and my sister and the little girl frozen in panic. I got them out (and the dog and budgie) and thought I could put it out (no heroics must have been adrenaline as I can't believe now what I tried unsuccessfully to do!) I fetched the hose and failed to attach it to the tap so soaked towels and tried putting out parts like that. The fire crew turned up and by now the downstairs was completely gutted and the fire had reached the top of the stairs.
I was taken to hospital as I had burns over most of me the worst on my hand (none of which I was aware of)
The next day I was front page of our local paper because the fire alarm had saved my life.
We lost everything material in that fire (what the fire didn't destroy the heat and smoke did) Thankfully we were insured and everything replaced.
The secret is I don't tell anyone how scared of fire I actually am.
I'm sure this doesn't read very well but hope if it does one thing it makes those that view it check your smoke alarms or install them and make sure you have insurance.
An unexpected fire show on my way home - a straw stack chatched fire in this freezing cold. Jumped out of the car with my trusted Leica of course...
This was my first attempt at doing wire wool spinning photography - I've seen it done before and just couldn't wait to do it myself! Over at Hadleigh Castle in Essex, a group of us met up and tried several different, crazy things this as ever happened to be one of my last shots of the night and was my favourite capture of the night with three different wool spinners.....sod being either of the two at the bottom (i think one of them actually got his hair burnt in this one)..........
Cant wait to do some more now

Every full moon there is a gathering of drummers and assorted performance artists for an impromptu drum circle on the sands of Miami Beach. The fire dancers are one the the high points of the night's festivities.
