Funny Story: I walked out of the bedroom, into the TV room the other day... turned on the TV, and saw my wife brushing her teeth on the local news. I said; "Honey? Why are you brushing your teeth on the six oclock news???"
She glggled out of control and eventually told me it was for a medical story.
These are shots from Final Cut Pro HD. The software she used to edit the story, with the toothbrush video.
This is my desk at work. I have a Mac Pro, and a bunch of silly film memorabilia.
I work in film VFX as an editor, for those not in the know.

Canon 7D
Canon 50mm 1.8 (from memory at ISO00, 1/4000, between 1.8 and 4 i think)
1080p at 25fps transcoded to Prores422HQ exported from FCP as 720 Prores422HQ
Natural light
A test of the Canon 7D to see how easy it would be to manually pull focus using the rear screen as a monitor. Trying to simulate what it would be like to use the camera like I would a regular film camera.
I'd say it was much harder to do accurately, but this would be down partly to the extreme DOF from the 50m 1.8 and the ergonomics of the focus ring.
I'd like to try it again with a proper focus pulling rig and a remote monitor. I'll have to win the lottery first (or you can lend me one?!).
I think the overall effect is definatlely better than than I could have got from a DSR, JVC111, EX1 or Z1 in standard configuration. You have to ignore the terrible pan/tilting, I was shooting on a stills photography tripod whilst manually focusing.
If going to be used on tumblr please credit by linking to my tumblr. and using it as the source. if not i'll throw a bitch fit. thanks.
This is where I spend most of my time on bad days editing videos and doing visual effects. I say bad day because I would rather be out on shoots than in edits.
Here is one of the tv commercial that I worked on at this terminal
Progetto Arcevia 2.0/12
In 1972, Italo Bartoletti initiated Progetto Arcevia, a vision of an existential community which simultaneously enriched the local community of Palazzo d’Arcevia (Italy) while at the same time providing a site for creatives – artists, philosophers, architects – to come together and collaborate.
40 years later, Bartoletti’s vision has been embraced by a group of young London-based designers, Unit +. In September 2012, five members of Unit + journeyed to Riserva Privata San Settimio, the very site that Bartoletti first cultivated for Progetto Arcevia, and which is still owned by his family today. Using experiential and live mapping techniques across a range of different media (conceptual documentaries, sketches, models and a fairy tale inspired comic book), Unit + explored, documented and analysed their impressions of the site.
Through their dynamic engagement with all aspects of the Riserva, they experimented with colour-coded navigation systems, a proposal for a ‘floating’ meditation room and a towering sundial. Through the support and enthusiasm of Bartoletti’s family and the Riserva, Unit + will return in Spring 2013 to initiate these projects.
Crucial to Progetto Arcevia 2.0/12 is the fact that the fundamental ideals remain the same; Unit + are committed to operating as “a thought factory and creativity lab”, a team that values collaboration and cooperation. Their work at the Riserva in 2013 represents not only a continuation of one man’s vision, but the revitalisation of concepts that are intrinsic to collaborative design.
Teck Whye Secondary School recently revamped their IT system to include more digital visual effects. I was sent there to shoot some feature photos for Friday Weekly (Those shots are not on flickr).

We’ve all been there with the virus keeping us around the house for weeks on end. One thing I’ve been enjoying to break up the monotony is taking my electric car (Chevy VOLT) out for a spin. There’s a very nice drive in the country through Lancaster PA to a Starbucks 12-14 miles away. It’s just nice getting out for a drive….

Another high-speed video deal. Tomorrow will be something different, I promise. :)
Originally shot at 3000 frames per second. You can see that's barely enough time to watch the explosion, even when I've slowed that part down from the normal 30fps playback. Meanwhile, I've sped a lot of the rest of it way up... some of it might even be faster than real time? :)
Anyway... Once more [last time, for now?], thanks to Intellectual Ventures for the use of their Phantom V12.1, and to various folks at Hackerbot Labs for helping me set up this scene (the streamers, lighting, etc.).
New feature for today: Apple's bundled audio tracks, and doing multiple audio tracks for different parts of things, with various fades in between, etc.
P.S. Video converted from the original CINE format that the Phantom produces using at open-source vrptools package that I wrote, combined with ffmpeg and then MPEG Streamclip. My settings for ffmpeg were poor on this one, it looks like, so the quality is a little off. Hopefully I'll learn to use ffmpeg better over time, and/or add (or have others add) more direct conversion via vrptools into a format that FCP X can understand. If anyone is particularly skilled with such things and wants to help, feel free to make a fork and/or contact me with tips, etc.

Why a video and not a photo? No reason really. Well, that's sort of a lie. I've been working in FCP, Motion and Color a lot this past week and I thought this would be a cool chance to use my DSLR's video powers. The slow motion is achieved through Motion's optical flow time filter.

PLACES: NYC, USA
While shooting with my Canon DSLR, I discovered its amazing video capability. Hypothetically, if I shoot at 24 frames per second, that means that I can have thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of frames as material for still images from just a few minutes of video, after the visual effects are in place. This body of work is about the places that I visit in NYC, with my camera for photo opportunities.
