After visiting the Palace of Parliament, it's time to relax for one final Papanas before heading off to the train station so we can catch the overnight Soviet era train to Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. Papanas is a Romanian doughnut covered in sour cream and a cherry compote, although I opted for raspberries on mine. All accompanied with a raspberry lemonade, it was a fine refreshment on a hot hot day.
One of these two photos will be my entry for the final round of the Pullip-Tography Maiden Voyage Contest...once again, I can't decide which to choose >_<U
Let me know if you've got a favorite :)
For the final round we were tasked with finding something about where we live that could be considered creative, artistic or any place that people would want to visit. My favorite place to visit for inspiration and beauty is the St. Louis Art Museum. I go nearly every Friday, they stay open late and have a free traveling exhibition on Fridays, and this time Rose was able to come along. We had a lot of fun in every round but in this one we met lots of nice (and curious) people and a few went home planning on buying a pullip of their own. ^^U
Open to all and free to all, the St. Louis Art Museum is one of the principal U.S. art museums, visited by up to a half million people every year. It's currently being expanded to include more than 224,000 square feet , and I can't wait until it's finished! The museum has a large variety of local artist George Caleb Bingham paintings as well as works by the all the European masters such as Matisse, Gauguin, Monet, Picasso, and Van Gogh. It's an awe inspiring place and one of
my favorite to visit. I go there so often, I could give tours. xD
Special thanks to Paige who sponsored the contest.
Buen 2010, amig@s flicker@s. Gracias por estar ahí.
Salud y Paz.
Un abrazo.
Ni el pormenor simbólico
de reemplazar un tres por un dos
ni esa metáfora baldía
que convoca un lapso que muere y otro que surge
ni el cumplimiento de un proceso astronómico
aturden y socavan
la altiplanicie de esta noche
y nos obligan a esperar
las doce irreparables campanadas.
La causa verdadera
es la sospecha general y borrosa
del enigma del Tiempo;
es el asombro ante el milagro
de que a despecho de infinitos azares,
de que a despecho de que somos
las gotas del río de Heráclito,
perdure algo en nosotros:
inmóvil.

The Final Frontier

What's part of historic Route 66 has the most intriguing history? You might agree that Ella's Frontier along Route 66 in Arizona is up there. This place was formerly known as the Frontier Trading Post, the last business of Frederick "San Diego" Rawson. Born in 1861, he apparently spent two years of his childhood held captive by the Plains Indians before being rescued by the U.S. Cavalry. That's not all. He also was a prospector, circus clown and trainer, emcee, wagon freighter, Indian scout, trapper, and cowboy. He opened a museum of his collection along Route 66 before moving to a small log building and opening up his trading post. Eventually, Ella Blackwell Meany owned and operated this place from the 1950s until her passing in 1984. She had attended the Julliard School of Music and kept an upright piano in the trading post. There's some debate as to who built the place. Two sources believe that it was built by Mormon pioneers in 1873, and claimed that it was the oldest trading post on Route 66. This may be a tall tale, but it sure is a fascinating one regardless. The Ella's Frontier sign was removed from the top of the building in 2019. The building unfortunately collapsed after that. This is how it looked in February 2022, with traffic on I-40 zooming past. I illuminated the exterior with a handheld ProtoMachines LED2 during the exposure. This was part of a three-night trip with night photographer Mike Cooper, exploring the remote corners of the desert.

Landing on Kauai is somehow less dramatic than landing on the other islands, such as the Big Island. One is aware, however, that one is landing in paradise.
5 minutes later it started to rain. 30 minutes later we were in Monyash awarding ourselves bacon sandwiches for our efforts!

September of 2013 marked the final Fall the ICE 6400 series SD40-2's would roam the former ICE system. On a perfect September evening, train #475 hits the causeway at Reno, MN behind two blue and gold classic's. 6437 had been traveling these same rails since the ICE acquired it over a decade prior, while trailing 6101 has been doing it back since days of IMRL.

This is the final call for boarding, or perhaps just the final call before boarding.

Former BNSF SD45-2 6475 sits out its final days as a locomotive. Once one of the most powerful engines for the Santa Fe before the Wide bodies, it now sits with just its cab nose and part of it's frame still intact. Sadly the 20 cylinder beast love their fuel too much and most railroads have purged them off of their fleets and after sitting years in deadlines waiting for new leases on live they are now being purged off lease fleets for more fuel efficient and new locomotives. The SD45's 45-2's 45T's are on the chopping block at NRE currently who knows how many will be left after this.

Este impresionante fresco que representa el Juicio final no se encuentra en una iglesia europea, sino en el corazón de la antigua Persia, en Isfahan. Para ser más exactos, en la iglesia cristiana armenia Vank. Siglo XVII

Michigan Shore train Z627 is rolling off the last two miles of their southbound Journey to interchange with CSX at Holland MI. CSX's Holland yard is only about a half mile in front of them but the crew will have to roll past it and shove in from the east end as the Fremont sub connects to the main in the middle of the yard. The train consists of mostly loaded Chara ash cars that are bound for the ash dump in Essexville MI. This business is roughly 10 cars a day, 5 days a week for about the next 2 years as an environmental clean up takes place at the former B.C. Cobb plant in Muskegon MI. The call colors are just starting to peak in this area but are still a couple weeks away at this point.
