The Filthy 50 - 2019 - Photos by Jake Langmade

3642 makes a mighty mess coming out of Thirlmere loco in preparation for hauling a train to Sydney.

This was the result of washing our hands when we arrived in Ping Yao China. The northern provinces Shaanxi and Shanxi took us through coal mining regions, and the days leading to Ping Yao were wet and sooty as a result. The roads were an inch or more deep in black soot which covered everything. I could only imagine what the air would have been like if the rain hadn't dampened the coal.

We're delighted to end our year of gigs with the particularly fine Filthy Six. Fresh from a live session for the BBC last week, they promise to bring the house down (or even the Church...) with their rip roaring dancefloor blend of jazz funk and boogaloo. Boogie until 2am and end the year in filthy style!

The Filthy Six are the most exciting, authentic soul jazz outfit in the UK today and have established themselves as one of the finest live acts around. Their hip-shakingly powerful mixture of jazz, funk and boogaloo is in the finest traditions of 60's Blue Note artists such as Lou Donaldson, Cannonball Adderley, Grant Green and Jimmy McGriff. Equally at home playing the sweat-drenched dancehalls of club land or the more traditional jazz room setting, their music appeals to both dance floor groovers and chin-scratching jazz heads alike.

"THESE GUYS HAVE GOT ALL THE LICKS. SOUL JAZZ HOW WE LIKE IT, ROUGH, RUGGED AND PLAYED BY GUYS TOTALLY ON TOP OF THEIR GAME. A VERY EXCITING ADDITION TO THE UK SCENE" - The Craig Charles Funk And Soul Show, BBC 6 Music

"THEIR HEADY MIX OF SOUL JAZZ FLAVOURS AND BAD ASS BOOGALOO...WRAPPED UP WITH A VIBRANT ENERGY AND SENSE OF HUMOUR...KEEPS THE CROWD HOOKED FROM THE MOMENT THEY WALK ON STAGE...A SURE FIRE BET EVERY TIME" - Dom Servini (Wah Wah 45s / Shook) - London Jazz Festival

“A MUTHA OF A SOUL FOOD PLATE… KILLER HORNS AND COOKED JUST RIGHT ORGAN… LOVE ‘EM AND YOU’LL NEVER LEAVE ‘EM!” - Hammond Beat

This is an example of a self-portrait from the project I am currently working on. Inspired by the image "Wide Eyes Behind Beautiful Lies” by Brian Oldham, I wanted to portray a much deeper meaning behind some of my self-portraits. Since I am the subject of my images, I can truly illustrate the emotions that I am feeling. Self-portraits can be incredibly thought provoking as they have been thoroughly planned and manipulated (here I physically painted my face, then digitally edited my skin and eyes to create an air-brushed feel) and most profoundly, they conveying a message or a narrative. Here I am portraying the sense that you can look beautiful on the outside, but if your words are ugly then it will show on the outside and destroy your beauty.

January 2017

So my cousin told me had this weird haircut and that he wanted to take a few pictures befor he got rid of it.

So we desided to make him look like a Dirty filthy punk rocker kinda guy.

He accualy brough water to make mud and then he rolled around in it.

We were both very happy with the pictures.

Kinda funny story is that we took the pictures by the trainrails and when we were done the polis came (jumping out of the fucking bushes) and said that we were trespassing and that we hade to pay a fine for every trainrail that we had crossed!

My god we though... not good at all. But we showed them the pictures and they were nice enough to let us off with a warning! :)

To mark the occasion of reorganising and redecorating our shop, (what! you mean you haven't seen it o.o!!) I rattled these portraits out of myself and Filthy. Splendid, aren't they.

this is what you get when you go barefoot at a music festival!

Trying on Akseli's character. Life is good when you're dirty.
