The Fiery-throated Hummingbird always gets lots of ooh’s and aah’s when we visit the mountains of Costa Rica. The colors are truly spectacular but can be difficult to capture with a camera.

One of many, many photos I took in the autumnal vineyards. I have known the seasons of the vineyards all my life but their wonderful autumn colours never cease to amaze me. The wine-growers celebrate the colourful season with an event called "Hills on Fire" which this year sounds kind of macabre if you think of what happens in California.

The dominant colour in the autumnal vineyards is yellow but there are some lovely red and orange tones too ! :)

I captured another glorious winter sunrise through the crabapple tree.

A frozen canal at the Bilsborrow Moorings under a spectacular dawn sky.

Staying local whilst still under the rigours of the Covid lockdown and I wandered down the local canal to the moorings at Bilsborrow. I timed this 30 minute walk to coincide with sunrise and as I neared the moorings the sky started to get interesting. I was amazed at the colours and textures in the sky. The canal was completely frozen and by placing my tripod and camera low on the ice I managed to get the textures of the ice leading to this barge, with the spectacular sky as a backdrop. It’s not often your expectations are exceeded on our dawn trips, but this one certainly did.

Strapped for an original idea, I took to the web for inspiration today. This is image is an adaption of a tutorial I found here. It has been a long while since I followed a tutorial. I guess I was just into crafting my own things. I used my own fire image and got my eldest to let his hair loose so that I could get the image of him I used as the base. After, I futzed with 35 layers, some masks, some colour work, and some painting to get to this image.

A fiera dusk sky, another of the beautiful sunsets one can see.

I apologise in advance for the many variations of this morning that will appear! It was so amazing!

We watched these tiny (10cm) hummingbirds whizzing about, collecting nectar in awe. They're like tiny little gemstones flying past your nose! You can't see the fiery throats on these photos but you will on others I have. These fiery throated were found at Paraiso de Quetzales in the Talamanca mountain range Costa Rica.

"... the most memorable sunsets tend to be those with at least a few clouds. Clouds catch the last red-orange rays of the setting sun and the first light of the dawn like a theatre screen, and reflect this light to the ground."

It's hot again, feels like August! This skipper went deep into the shade of the lantana plant, choosing to light on a leaf. So I had a nice simple setting for this shot, instead of one of those distracting lantana flowers...
