As February 2018 draws to a close this evening's sunset complete with a Starling fly-by was a perfect send off. Lurking close by is the Beast from the East bringing snow flurries, a bitterly cold wind and big, dark snow filled clouds!

I love to get out with my camera at sunset even in February when it's cold it's beautiful. My house backs up to this little lake and it's always nice in the evenings.
On this particular evening all was going well until my nifty 50mm lens fell in the lake. RATS....... I was cursing like a sailor I just got that lens for Christmas from my husband. What do you think this crazy Irish women did next? That's right I went in and got it, freezing it was. :-(
It's been on an air vent drying out and hoping for a miracle ever since BUT you and I both know it's a gonner. :-(
What did my husband say I hear you say. Well I didn't tell him what he doesn't know won't worry him!
Have a great Sunday everyone I hoping it warms up soon, very cold burrrrrr. Thank you all for your time and support. :-)))))

A shot from last February...just a few crocus in our garden at the moment, and with a drop in temperature forecast along with the possibility of wintry showers, I think the 'harbingers of spring' may get held up!
The flowers of late winter and early spring occupy places in our hearts well out of proportion to their size.

into early blooming. Then, the inevitable blizzard
will come, blighting our harbingers of spring,
and the numbed yards will go back undercover.

from the archives. this was taken last february. i remember it being bitterly cold and my fingers were so numb it took double time to adjust the settings on the camera. it was about 5pm and the sun was setting. i can recall very clearly that the air was so quiet, so calm, so still.
February has seen more sunshine than January and Tuesday was a perfect example Five exposure HDR processed with Nik HDR Efex Pro 2
What's special about these pictures is that the sea is not frozen. In February, that's what it should be at 60 degrees latitude.
The settings of the camera were accidentally off, so I pushed the sliders way up to recover this from the darkness. -- February 4, 2022
February in North Carolina started with winter days, and quickly became a very warm, early springtime!
