On my walk around the city May 21, 2014 Christchurch New Zealand.
Demolition work on Christchurch's "distinctive" former civic building is under way. The category-2 heritage building was designed by G A J Hart and opened in 1939 as the Miller's department store.
It featured the South Island's first escalator, which was the biggest in New Zealand at the time.
The five-storey building was refurbished and reopened as the Christchurch City Council chambers in 1980.
The building had been empty since the council moved to premises on Hereford St in August 2010, and the February 2011 earthquake had damaged staircases and cracked some floor plates.

The French TGV that I took to Arras to visit the Canadian Memorial at Vimy.
TGV means "Train Grande Vitesse" or "Very Fast Train". 320 kph was what my GPS indicated as the top speed on our way there. Yep. That's fast.
Here's the screen that appears once you've pressed "Fast Cash" on the previous screen.
Eagle-eyed viewers will notice something troublesome in combination with the previous screen. Non-eagle-eyed viewers, however, may want to look at the two screens overlaid on one another.
