From the days of smaller farms and smaller yields. Not used much anymore. Back in the sixties every farm had one of these.

This small town in the NSW Southern Riverina is at the junction of two rivers, the Edward River and Billabong Creek both of which have recently experienced severe flooding, the worst for many years, perhaps on record.
Flooding on the vast plains abutting the Murray River in the Riverina and northern Victoria is a slow motion affair often taking weeks to arrive from further upstream, rising slowly and falling slowly. They are no less devastating for that inundating many farms and threading to inundate stream side towns most of which are fairly well protected by levees (but not all of them).
The town of Moulamein has fared better than some in that the town itself has not been flooded but all points of access have been cut off to all but local 4WD vehicles. I was lucky enough to be able to get into town last week with my brother who lives on a farm south of the town doing so in his Toyota HiLux.
Featured here is flooding at the main gate of a property which abuts the Edward River several kilometres out of Moulamein.
At least this used to be an old farmhouse and is reminiscent of what I expect were tough times trying to work this land. The land is still farmed, but not with horse drawn implements.

had a beautiful sunny day so justt before cycling in to Hofn I saw this farm in front of the mountains in the warm evening sunlight
Pewit Hall Farm, Holmesfield, Derbyshire, shortly after sunrise. The Farm can be dated to the early 1800s and the farmhouse doubled as a beerhouse for a period in the second half of the 19th century when the adjacent field.accommodated a brick making enterprise with clay pits, kilns and crushing wheels run by my great great grandfather Joseph Slater. Pewits (or lapwings) were once common here, though sadly are few in number these days..
This is the first of many photos to come. We recently took a vacation to Gettysburg, PA, and visited the battlefields of the Civil War. So much history. This is where the first day of the three day battle took place, McPherson's Farm, aka, McPherson's Ridge.

The benedict fam in Montgomery is a former Dairy Farm who's land became a town park. The farm buildings are no longer used and are empty and sealed. The interior of the farmhouse has been stripped down to the studs.
