Fall colors are at their peak. On Thursday, September 25, 2025, Amtrak No. 5 rushes through a fall scene a few miles west of Granby, Colorado. The train is running approximately two hours late due to a rockslide in Glenwood Canyon. Amtrak had held the train in Denver while the track was being cleared. Recent snows have coated the mountains of the Continental Divide on the horizon.
An early and substantial snowfall turned the forest preserve at Half Day into a winter wonderland. I was fortunate to have the chance to be able to stop by this past Sunday morning. I also had the pleasure of shooting alongside a young man from California. He has been attending college in the area for the past 1 1/2 years and feels that our forest preserves are one of the main reasons he took up landscape photography. Makes me appreciate what we already have and I'm thankful for that.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ONE AND ALL!
Former Great Northern F7A #274 pauses at the end of its run here at Batterson, OR, on a fall color excursion on the Oregon Coast Scenic. My wife and I rode the train on this day, and it was an enjoyable trip as the train rolled along through the Nehalem River valley. The old F unit was built in 1953 for the GN and I believe is still owned by Doyle McCormick.

Fall is not my favorite time of year, in fact is is almost my least favorite time of year. Occasionally though, something happens to make it more tolerable.

The Tillamook Forest is kind of a hidden gem. It's not really a secret by any means and it gets its fair share of visitors, but often it is simply passed through on the way to the coast....maybe I'm just speaking for myself. Regardless, it is a beautiful forest with a lot to offer.
This fall afternoon was seemingly perfect. Clear skies, moderate temperatures, changing foliage overhead, and reasonably crisp leaves (for the PNW) underfoot. What more could you ask for?

Rürupsmühle in Löhne
I love old mills and Rürupsmühle is in my neighbourhood. We enjoyed a cloudy Autumn Sunday to learn more about the life of our ancestors.

Another fall portrait of Kaitlin, this time with an extra bit of colour from her scarf.
Lighting for this one:
We were under some trees so we had some shade but I broke out my SB-910 on a monopod with a 26" rapidbox pretty much directly overhead, fired by CLS with my D7100 as commander.
