A shot taken on Friday 16 Junes. The location was thanks to a Facebook post. For locals it is just outside the village of Lavant Nr Chichester. It is off New Road leading to the Airfield where Fordwater Lane turns into a path and a little way down a footpath turns off and runs alongside the field and the poppies.
The shot was taken with a Sony A550 with a tamron 18-200 at 55mm. 1 image processed with Camera Raw. This was followed by Topaz Clarity and increasing brightness a little, The colours are natural.

After the sunset photography at my secluded field I headed to a location I scouted in the afternoon to shoot this blue hour/night scene with the moon.
Once again my mobile phone was very useful during the scouting time in the afternoon:
It was great to pre- visualize the composition and gave me via the app Photopills accurate information about where the moon will be positioned at a given time.

This is the last image I took on the first day in Valensole before heading back to my accommodation in Gréoux-les-Bains. After the exhausting journey to France and being for hours in the lavender fields with temperatures around 35 degrees Celsius, I quickly fell asleep and dreamt about what the purple fields in Valensole will have to offer the next day …

Meet one of Banff's famous grizzlies, Bear 142, a six-year old female at the time of this photo. Now 15, she is well known to park staff and locals. She typically hangs out in the corridor between Lake Louise and Banff town, and is tolerant of people - so far - presumably because the proximity keeps her cubs a little safer from predation by male grizzlies. Still, she lost two of her most recent litter of three, probably to a grizzly boar. Male grizzlies often kill and eat grizzly cubs. It's a brutal world.
If you Google "Banff Bear 142" you'll find lots of info about her, including a Facebook post with video from this year: she has 2 tiny cubs, and they are CUTE! She's also a lot bigger than in my photo...
Encroachment by photographers and selfie-takers is a big problem in Banff, and Parks Canada is looking at strategies to minimize dangerous encounters. I'm well aware of this and have never gone there with specific intent to photograph bears. The two grizzly shots closing out my Alberta series were random encounters; I am not one of the obnoxious Banff paparazzi.
In this case, 142 was on the other side of a fence, oblivious to me. Cars were zipping past, equally oblivious, as 142 foraged on a hillside at the edge of the forest. I used ON1 Resize to upscale the image, and also digitally removed her ear tag.
Tomorrow - back to the wild prairie of Saskatchewan!

it's really amazing how good the new generation of autofocus in all the new mirrorless cameras are, I have been getting so many shots this year that I was never able to achieve with previous DSLRs.
Here's a 30 second exposure of Clarens Drive (R44)... a magnificent 21 km scenic coastal drive between Gordon's Bay and Rooi-Els... captured yesterday evening about 30 minutes after sunset.

It is International Jumping Spider Day! Looks like this is the first year. Shaham Tamir, a macro photographer on Facebook started it to show the cutest and most adorable spiders as a way for people to embrace instead of fear spiders. Similar to how Arachtober got started 10 years ago so we are certainly supporting it.
The Facebook post says:

When I first read the post Monday morning that the IC painted Death Star SD70's might be replaced by CN SD70M-2's I was already sitting on the former Bessemer main waiting for the northbound at Keepville reading Facebook posts. I had decided months ago that getting reaquainted with the Bessemer was a worthwhile local target for the COVID era, in spite of the Death Stars. And I hadn't got to it yet. But there are worse things than matched black standard cabs running on a cool piece of efficient, scenic railroad. So i was unusually a little ahead of the curve. With that news and a great weather forecast, Wednesday 9/23/2020 was another day spent on the Bessemer. This is the last shot of the day of the northbound at Russelton. They took extra time doing the turn to get empties and another few minutes I would have left. By the time the train cleared, there was no hint of a shadow anywhere in the shot.

I wanted to start the day off with something bright and beautiful. Yesterday life got to me and I was focusing on the negative and my belief in other people's morality was shaken. On Sunday, we were at our local amusement park and when ordering lunch the person in front of me told the cashier he was with me and I was paying for his sandwich then he walked out with his stolen lunch. I guess I'm sort of naïve and obviously so was the cashier, I couldn't believe someone would be so sleazy. Then yesterday, I got a call from the fraud department at my bank and somehow someone had used my debit card to make fraudulent purchases. Luckily the bank caught it but my card had to be closed and now I have to wait for the new card to be issued and contact everyone on auto-pay. Lastly, my local farm (where I bought this cute pumpkin) had a Facebook post and there was a news story about people going to the farm and stealing their pumpkins. It is very disheartening, this is such a hard-working family trying to keep their small local farm alive.
I am putting yesterday behind me and trying to focus on the goodness of others and beauty in the world. Sitting outside and enjoying the splendid sunrise and glorious light was a wonderful start. Have a great Tuesday and when life gets you down try to focus on the light and positive, be in the moment.
I've made lots of mistakes in SL. None were nefarious, or malicious or selfish. All of my choices were just paths taken and paths followed.
Some choices were in error, some choices were the right thing to do. Some were made in haste, some in anger, some for joy, some for my own personal happiness.
Hard or not, I never made a choice with the intention to hurt anyone. So here I am reflecting on what I did wrong, what I did right and on what I would have done differently.
There's no turning back time, there is only the future, only the next path to choose.

Un bâtiment exemplaire.

Just for the record, the boring normal vision view of a neat spot that we (JP and KO) found just north of Pleasant Lake, IN on Sunday 12/16/2018. They've already very well covered the creative views, but it's hard to go wrong with a clean nicely painted 45 car body. The train left Reading MI in an early morning fog that cleared by the time it got out out of Michigan and stayed clear until 10 minutes after the last shot in Ohio. Thanks to TC for paying attention to facebook posts and communicating to a good sized contingent that documented this move. Great time hanging with the youngsters for a day.

As I was driving around the Big Island looking for a good spot to shoot the sunset, I spotted a great beach with a lava field and decided to check it out. Originally, I hadn't intended to do any long exposures, so I left the tripod and ND filters in the car. As I walked around, I found a complex system of pools and drains that would look beautiful with LE, so I waited until after the sun went down, got down low and tucked into a solid 3-point shooting stance to get some 1/2 sec exposures hand held. This is an upload from my Facebook post, so it probably won't show EXIF data, but here you go: Nikon Zf Nikkor 24-200mm f/4-6.3 @24MM ISO 100 1/2 sec F/8.

This scan started from a Facebook post from David Magill. He had posted a shot of a circus train he had run at Brookfield Ma. Looking at the engine number it just seemed so familiar...….so I dived into the slide files to look for it and...Presto! There it was. I had recrewed his train in Springfield Station. Fast forward 19 years or so we would meet again via the fabulous Facebook group that he runs and a invite to see his Maybrook Line model railroad. I can remember engine numbers from 20 years ago, but I can't remember what I had for lunch last week! Anyway, here were are waiting at Field Interlocking on the Springfield Line most likely for #490, with CSXT GP40-2's 6234 and 6216 with the RB&BB train.

Santa Cruz Portland Cement 2.
Looking at the Porter Catalog one can imagine the Santa Cruz Portland Cement company placing a telegraph order with the code-name "Klinge" for a Class B-S locomotive. An 0-4-0 with a smart saddle tank, 15" cylinders and a 24" stroke, and 18,000 lbf of tractive effort. The locomotive was completed in 1909.
Chiggen only somehow manages to be a slightly less silly name than Class B-S "Klinge" was anyways.
Edit: I changed some of the caption when Stathi Pappas, the owner of the locomotive commented on my Facebook post that the Chiggen was built to upgraded specs from 1909 compared to the 1908 catalog I had found, that included a higher boiler pressure and over-bored cylinders.
