Last week I spent a couple of evenings at the Wedge near Newport Beach, CA. After playing with the still-image side of the camera for a while I flipped it over to the movie side. I really love the way water looks in 5x slo-mo.
All clips captured with the Z7's AF system doing all the work... I can't focus that fast! I wanted to see how it handled both linear and non-linear movements. It did really... really well!
Re-watching this, I'm also impressed by the VR. All of the footage was captured handheld... with that 300mm.

Catching up on a lot of unposted images...
Recently, I have been playing with remote bird photography. The set-up is pretty straight forward:
1) set-up a camera and telephoto lens on a tripod.
2) aim the camera/lens/tripod at a spot where birds are likely to visit. (I hedge my bet and put out some bird seed on a corner of my patio wall)
3) go back inside the house. (The birds don't like it when I'm outside near the seed.)
4) turn on the iPad and launch the SnapBridge app.
5) wait for a bird to come into my field of view on the iPad.
6) use SnapBridge to focus, adjust exposure and capture the image.
That's really about it. SnapBridge allows me to see a live view from the camera via my iPad... wirelessly. So it is almost like cheating.
Almost.

Playing wit the long handheld exposure was fun and challenging!

I really wanted to get a bird in r near flight with the SnapBridge set-up. Due to a slight 'shutter delay' between the iPad and the camera... and the camera double checking focus before each shot.. it was a bit more challenging.
It took all day, but I finally got what I was looking for with this one.
Z50 Test #2, using a the FTZ adapter with a Nikkor 18-300 f/6.3 (for a set-up to compare to a super-zoom bridge camera such as my FZ300).

SOOC Basic JPEGs, one of the last shots from a sequence of about 10, Z6 with the AF-S 85mm 1.8G at 1.8 on FTZ, pretty much nailed focus on every shot! Who said Z6 can't track moving subjects?! This is low light, moving subject with bright distracting LED light on the bike to fool the camera, it didn't miss!
For a Flickr theme-based group, February 2019. Second shot of the series.
Composite shot made up of 9 focus-stacked exposures, using the built-in function on the Nikon Z7. Stack processed with Helicon Focus. Micro-Nikkor 105mm Æ’/2.8 macro lens with FTZ adapter.

Here I played around with one of the twenty new Creative Picture Controls on the Z cameras. This one is called Sepia. It looks to desaturate the image and then add a bronzing effect that I really like for this shot.
