Four images created using my Z6 with the Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro lens via the FTZ. The point about these four images is that they were created using "tethered capture" in Capture One Pro 21. I used C1P to completely control the Z6 remotely and take 15 shots per composition where the point of focus was changed remotely between each shot having already selected the aperture, shutter speed, and other relevant settings through Capture One and never once having to touch the camera. The NEF (RAW) files were then processed in C1P before using the Helicon Focus plug-in to use HF for the stacking process. I ran two different stacking methods in HF (B&C) before passing the stacked images back to C1P as TIF files which were then given a final "polish" before being output to jpeg. This is the first time I had tried this whole process from start to finish without touching the camera and only leaving the computer in order to reposition the subject. I have now transitioned from Adobe Lightroom to Capture One Pro. I was, and still am, a fan of the Adobe products, but Capture One has really impressed me and wasn't difficult to transition to.

Last week I spent a couple of evenings at the Wedge near Newport Beach, CA. After playing with the still-image side of the camera for a while I flipped it over to the movie side. I really love the way water looks in 5x slo-mo.

All clips captured with the Z7's AF system doing all the work... I can't focus that fast! I wanted to see how it handled both linear and non-linear movements. It did really... really well!

Re-watching this, I'm also impressed by the VR. All of the footage was captured handheld... with that 300mm.

No color grading/sharpening. Just trimming, music and titles in post.

Catching up on a lot of unposted images...

Recently, I have been playing with remote bird photography. The set-up is pretty straight forward:

1) set-up a camera and telephoto lens on a tripod.

2) aim the camera/lens/tripod at a spot where birds are likely to visit. (I hedge my bet and put out some bird seed on a corner of my patio wall)

3) go back inside the house. (The birds don't like it when I'm outside near the seed.)

4) turn on the iPad and launch the SnapBridge app.

5) wait for a bird to come into my field of view on the iPad.

6) use SnapBridge to focus, adjust exposure and capture the image.

That's really about it. SnapBridge allows me to see a live view from the camera via my iPad... wirelessly. So it is almost like cheating.

Almost.
