With a half hour gap between Santa Special services I decided to have a look around the sidings at the Stourport Triangle, where a few wagons are stored awaiting restoration - some have been there for years, most likely due the owners being unable to afford the work to bring them back into use.
Texaco also seems to be one of those companies that's still around, but largely forgotten compared to its heyday 30-40 years ago.
Across coastal Algarve towns and much of Portugal, the beauty of historic architecture hides a sobering reality: a surplus of abandoned homes. Rising real estate costs make purchasing these properties inaccessible for locals and new buyers alike. Left behind on the porch of a 1926 farmhouse, these three pairs of boots speak of many years of hard work both on the small farm and renovating the old house. In a few more weeks, they will be completely hidden by the weeds rapidly engulfing parts of the house.
