A pond on the forest floor often exsists in this spot in Kleb Woods Nature Preserve after a wet raining period. The 133.5 acre Kleb Woods Nature Preserve west of Rose Hill in northwest Harris County, Texas has woods; reclaimed farmlands and several small ponds and iintermittent wet areas. The Preserve lies in an area around Tomball and Rosehill was popular with German Immigrants in the 1840's. One of those immigrants was Conrad Kleb. His grandson, Edward Kleb acquired three parcels of prairie land woods for farming near Roberts, Texas from 1904 to 1933. His son, Elmer Kleb, ultimately inherited the land but had no interest in farming. Instead, he let trees and shrubbery grow on the property, which by the late 20th century had become a unique wooded wilderness bulwarked against encroaching suburban development.
Though he was keenly interested in the plants, trees and birds on his land, Elmer Kleb was a recluse, retreating from 20th-century modernity within his forest. When he found himself facing huge tax arrears by the mid-1980s and the possibility of seeing his land sold off, Harris County Commissioner Steve Radack negotiated a grant with Texas Parks and Wildlife to conserve the property as a Harris County Nature Preserve. The agreement allowed Kleb to live on the land until his death in 1999.
La sonadora
Yo; el otono
Yo; el vespero
He sido un eco.
Sere una ola
Sere la luna
He sido todo, soy yo.
Yo; el verano
Yo; el ebano
Soy la sonadora.
[Translation]
I; the autumn
I; the evening star
I have been an echo
I shall be a wave
I shall be the moon
I have been everything, I am myself
I; the summer
I; the ebony
I am the dreamer
