The rain-forest around Franklin River on Tasmania's west coast ... with a touch of ICM.

I always stop here on my way to the west coast - holds a special place for me. The first time was when I was 11 years old. On this trip I took my youngest son Ellis, who is 11, so it was quite magical.

What a great weekend its been.............

Around Almere the forest is quite young, only 40 years old.

First I thought these trees were birches, but they aren't . It's populus x canescens. A cross between populus alba and populus tremula. In Dutch it's called 'grauwe abeel'. I don't know the english name. On wikipedia there is a page in dutch about this tree, but it is not in english.

Sunbeams shine through an old growth forest in Olympic National Park.

Mist lingers and floats, slowly upward, from the falls below and into the tree tops above. Cascade Falls is located in Cascade Falls Regional Park near Mission, BC., British Columbia, Canada.

Not only was the forest floor replete with wildflowers, but the presence of this beautiful White-tailed Deer was an added bonus. She was casually grazing on the ground cover, but was not eating the flowers.
