HAPPY ALIEN DAY!!! smile emoticon Hope everyone has a chance to celebrate in their own way! For me it feels like everyday is Alien day in one form or another. LOL!
Sculpt/Build progress on the Narcissus Shuttle/Stowaway - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Completed the build of the sleeping stowaway, the next step is to fill the gaps. If you think assembling a hand made, articulated figure is difficult, try assembling a static posed figure in a sleeping/resting position and make it look convincing. It takes a heat gun, temperature and time...and timing is everything. Mess up, right back to casting replacement parts to the point where I just took a day and cast parts exclusively so I wouldn't be delayed again.
The shell of the Narcissus wall panel continues to progress. Looks rough right now but for it being only a structural build without detailing it's acceptable. The figure will be removable from the back of the diorama if need be. I also completed the dome portion of the tower build for the shuttle.
The image of the Alien is my 300th work in progress shot since I began sculpting the beast. It's been a heck of a run and I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with the Big Chap...but the crew isn't complete and my ALIENS project is only beginning so the work continues.

Sculpt update on The Queen - Aliens (86) - and the Egg Morpher - Aliens: Defiance - Dark Horse Comics. Both 1:18 scale.
The Queen
Completed the rough sculpt of the lower mandible and teeth. The lower mandible is a skeletal sculpt for the moment while I adjust and refine the teeth. After the lower teeth are complete, flesh detail will be added to the mandible.
The teeth are being sculpted on a separate pallet, so when completed can have a mold made and cast in clear resin. The teeth are individually sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt, a two-part epoxy from Aves Studio LLC. Once cured, I've begun refining each using dental tools and fine-grit sandpaper. Hope to have them at a full shine similar to the top set of teeth soon.
I still have to sculpt the gum line for the lower teeth and the pallet will eventually be set deeper into the lower mandible than what you see here. Many adjustments will be made after castings are made. Then additional casts will be made.
Do the top and bottom teeth line up? Close but not really - not too concerned with that since my sculpt will feature multiple head sculpts and not a jointed jaw. So perfect alignment isn't a priority here...although I will do my best to get it as close as possible before making molds.
The Egg Morpher
Began filling the detail to the back "pipes" of the beast. I've also begun the sculpt of the creature's hands which will be very similar to the Giger Alien hands but larger. The rough sculpt right now resemble Bugs Bunny gloves and not that of the nightmarish xenomorph but no worries, that will all change....just how I work.
Hope you enjoyed the updates!!! Trying to get an update knocked out each week. If not, every other week for sure with updates in between.
Questions are welcome! Thanks again!

Sculpt progress on the Xenomorph - ALIEN: Covenant - 1:18 scale. Scale shot! I should do more of these.
Finished sculpting the jaw of the beast. Getting ready to cast and replicate so the dome can be made. The tendons that stretch from the jaw will be sculpted on the final castings as I plan to create several head variants.
Fans have mentioned this is a Protomorph and not a Xenomorph? I understand that it is up for debate. What do you think?

Build progress on the Narcissus Shuttle Diorama - particularly the "Stowaway" section - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Began adding the pipes that run within the cavity of the wall panel using acrylic rods. I want to make sure the alien is removable but due to the complexity of the piece, the beast can no longer be inserted through the front of the display...so I made an entrance from the back as seen in the attached image. Excited to see the alien fits snugly into the space provided without much difficulty. Work continues....#alien #narcissus #shuttle #nostromo #diorama #sith_fire30
Completed 1:18 scale, 4.25" tall sculpt of Darth Malgus - Sith Lord from the Lucasarts/Bioware MMO game Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Figure is a complete sculpt using a custom articluated frame as it's armature. The 8 different heads have all been sculpted and hand painted - each depicting a window of time in the life of Malgus and inspired by the cinematic trilogies created by Blur Studios: Return, Hope and Deceived.

Sculpt status on the 1:18 scale Space Jockey - Alien 79. Pre-sculpt work in progress using monster clay to get a better idea of placement and proportion. A "suggested" sculpt to say the least. I was hesitant on where to start with the Space Jockey - do I start with the alien itself or the chair? Then I went back through my refference shots and found that Giger and Peter Voysey began the sculpt of the Alien first, then built the chair around it. So that's what I have begun doing. I will reduce the monster clay which will work as a frame for the final sculpt that will be made using Aves FIXIT Sculpt (Epoxy). Very excited to finally see it come into form! Gonna be big! #alien #spacejockey #hrgiger #diorama #sculpture
The City of Decatur works hard to be a bicycle-friendly community. This is a do-it-yourself fixit station located right in front of the Decatur Recreation Center.
When I first spotted the station at a distance, all the tools were hanging down in a clump about a foot above the the ground. All I could make out was what looked liked two red tubes, each with an eyepiece on one end, perched on top of a tall black metal post.
At first glance, I had the impression that the thing was a powerful set of binoculars positioned to peer straight down Sycamore Street. At what, I couldn't imagine. Closer examination, though, revealed it to be what it, in fact, was: a bicycle fix-it station. A Dero fixit station to be exact.
I wanted to take a picture of the contraption, but it wasn't that interesting with all the tools bunched up together, hanging so low.
I don't usually manipulate "found" objects before I photograph them. Typically I want to capture a scene pretty much as anyone could encounter it. My job, at least in most circumstances, is to work with point-of-view and composition. Here, though, I decided to play a little bit of the artiste. The option would have been no photo at all.
I love the look of manufactured objects, like braided metal cables and bicycle tools. I thought it would be more interesting if I took the sad-looking clump of tools and lifted their retaining tethers up and draped them over the top of the fixit stand and separated them.
The effect was something that looked a bit like bike-tool wind chimes. There's the bicycle pump chuck with a pink handle on the right standing by, preparing to supply some wind to move the chimes around.
Some sculpt work on a Star Wars related figure! Dass Jennir with Steed. Star Wars: Dark Times (Dark Horse Comics) - 1:18 scale. Sculpt progress on the "Egg Morpher" Xenomorph - Alien: Defiance (Dark Horse Comics) - 1:18 scale.
Another set of images showing progression. The last image is the latest (late last night). Sculpting with Aves FIXIT.
Two things I plan to change - the ribbing just below the carapace needs to be thinned out, and the vertebral segments at the back of the head needs to have a higher arc.
The creature is unexplained..which is intriguing to me because I don't need to know a reason for it's existence. It's depiction in the comic is something out of nightmares (read the comic series, you'll understand).More to come! #alien #aliens #nostromo #darkhorsecomics #xenomorph #eggmorphing #sculpting #customactionfigure #miniature #avesstudio
"Dressing a Sculpt" is a term I use for taking high quality shots of a sculpt while it's still a work in progress to evaluate proportion and sculpt errors (if any). I find this beneficial because I sculpt the figure in portions - head, upper torso, lower abdomen, upper arms etc...all separate, never as one piece.
I use pins or bits of Monster Clay (wax based) to bring the parts together and pose in both a neutral stance and when I can, action poses. Sometimes the parts are too cumbersome to pose dynamically. I may throw in some color and shadow to see if I'm capturing the "feel" of the subject at hand. How it's interpreted in the comic book or film it's inspired from.
So here are several "dressed" images of the Egg Layer Xenomorph from the Dark Horse Comics series Aliens: Defiance. Posed this guy next door to my Alien Newborn who is sharing the same pedestal at the moment. Took a couple shots of her as well for the heck of it.

Paint progress on "The Beast" - ALIEN 79 -1:18 scale. Closed mouth "lipped" version - Group shots containing the transparent dome. I painted the dome as it would be a living part of the organism, not just a cool see through cover...looking organic, not just transparent. It's living material so you'd think it would have veining, textures, and various waves of color throughout the fleshy dome. Used swirls of clear gloss mixed with earth toned colors inside the dome to give some dimension to the vacuum formed piece. Pretty cool effects when the light moves through it. The rest of the head sculpt used an oily black as a base and additional earth tones and grays- this will play through the rest of the body and the rest of the head sculpts. #alien #bigchap #nostromo #alien79 #painting #giger

The Egg Morpher (Xeno) - ALIEN: Defiance (Dark Horse Comics) - 1:18 scale....Pulled from the pages of the Dark Horse Comics series Alien: Defiance and inspired by the artwork of artist Tristan Jones.
Sculpt update - Began working on the build late last week but haven't had time to post updates so what you will see here is a series of images taken along the course of several days (more like very late nights). The material I am using is Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Studio LLC.
I always begin with sculpting the head first. This creature is larger that the standard xeno warrior so the figure will be featuring a completely new sculpt, no recast parts from others I've made. The body will be similar to the big chap (alien 79), but slightly larger, with longer limbs and fingers. I'm staying true to the artists concepts and panel depictions of the beast within the comic....to the best of my ability. This isn't my first rodeo when it comes to sculpting comic based characters (Star Wars anyone?).
The skull will be a hard shell, similar to the warrior drone. Very similar to the spitter alien (Colonial Marines) so I'm using a reduce frame of an existing spitter head cast. The head sculpt will feature both an open and closed mouth. Waiting to find out if the beast features a traditional inner jaw or an expanding protrusion similar to the Deacon from prometheus. About a half inch longer than the warrior drone head.
Much more to come - may revisit the sculpt on those teeth and make them a tad smaller....and more of them. More to come! #alien #aliens #defiance #darkhorsecomics #aliendefiance #eggmorpher #xenomorph #sculpture #avesfixitsculpt #avesstudio #miniature
Build progress on The Narcissus Shuttle "The Stowaway" - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Been busy working on some major adjustments to the shuttle wall that contains the beast...but first I...
- Completed the corrugated design of the upper wall.
- Finished adding the base to the wall.
Once that was completed I discovered the wall was extremely too tall in relation to the 1:18 scale "Lucky Star" Ripley figure. The "cubbyhole" the alien fits into was to too open height wise. So I went back and literally cut the wall in half down the middle horizontally and removed three quarters of an inch from the top section. Then brought to two parts back together and patched it.
Even though the height of the wall is still about .125" too high in my opinion, it's acceptable now. Working on the separate console having to make adjustments to the height of the piece to mach the newly scaled wall panel - may just rebuilt the console from scratch.
The "cubbyhole" for the alien is on target height wise now smile emoticon Began adding pipes(styrene rods) within the compartment. The alien will be removable but only from the back of the wall build through a detachable panel held by magnets. More actual build images will come soon.
Both the centerpiece tower and wall panel are close to having the smaller details added. May consider building the other wall panel opposite this one to keep the job at an equal progression. More to come!.....#alien #nostromo #narcissus #shuttle #stowaway #ripley #luckystar #diorama

Straying from the path he has sturggled to hold true, Dass Jennir arrives on Telerath. Unbeknownst to Jennir, his destiny with the living force is about to be revealed and his burdened conscience wiped clean....
Dass Jennir is a favorite character of mine from the Star Wars Dark Horse Expanded Universe.
My apologies for taking so long to complete this piece...as with all my work, I never center my full attention on just one project, always a bit at a time, tabling and returning to the subject when the inspiration hits.
This is a 1:18th scale figure - fully articulated with all the basic movements and can be posed in many postions like other factory made figures...mostly when his cowl is removed.
Both figures sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt and painted using Floyquil Acrylics.
7/16/21 - Sculpt update on the Space Jockey - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale.
So after the inevitable cutting and resizing of the torso that almost made my work go viral for all the wrong reasons (I was briefly a cake designer on reddit it seems), it is once again whole and at this stage, complete.
Check out the comparison shot, before and after - the difference in length was a half an inch.
Along with the sculpt work that replaced that which was reduced and adjusted during the resize, I made sculpt changes to the creature's cranium, completed the detail behind the head and neck of the doomed pilot and reworked the sculpt of the hands to appear more bony and less fleshed out. I actually still have a bot of dremeling to do to the hands...and a moment ago I said this was complete (rolls eyes) LOL!
Next step, taking a break so I can get back to work on other projects. That being said, I know how I am and when there's a step needing to be done it will drive me crazy till it's complete so don't expect this project to be tabled anytime soon. BUT...believe I have the luxury of multitasking now LOL! Thinking about building up the remaining front of the chair, where the "canon" will sit. I'll have a better explanation in the update video that will follow up next week.
Thanks for checking in on my latest update! Hope you enjoy the pics! More to come!

Ultra-rare Made In Japan reissue of the Fender VI 6-string bass. It has a working tremelo system. Someone at Fender was seriously caned when they designed this thing. Sounds kind of interesting but has no sustain whatsoever.
Build update to the AutoDoc medical station-NOSTROMO-ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Began building up the central section of the room, Completed the monitor suite above the bed as well as the surgical tool locker. I'm thinking of using a sticker/decal for the tools instead of cutting then out piece by piece. Close to completion to the upper body of the cybernetic reconstruction. The upper chest and back, spinal column and tube placement have been completed - the tubes have been applied for test positioning only and will be removed when sculpting continues. The small circulatory tank just beow the chest has been added for positioning as well and will be attached permanently when sculpting and painting of the primary figure is complete. The head is close to completion but needs additional detail to the sides and back as well as a "vocoder". Will begin work on the lower arms, hands and two circulatory tanks for the figures interior as well as metal rib cage.
Much more details added to the EV suit for Dallas. FIXIT is a wonderful product for capturing small detail like this.

Sculpt Update (IMAGES) on my 1:18 scaled Space Jockey - ALIENS 1979. Sculpted using Aves FIXIT Sculpt.
I've posted a video as well so please check that out. youtu.be/LL6moVvkzkI
I "dremeled" out a chasm to insert a separate sculpted piece of tubing that will be sculpted over to become a permanent fixture. I also carved out a portal to insert the "guard" that goes down the back of the chair, parallel to the interior tubing. Some adjustments need to be made and additional sculpting needs to be added but I'm very pleased with how it all fits.
One step closer to finishing the back of the chair!

Completed Jedi Master Luke Skywalker as seen in issue #3 of Star Wars Invasion by Dark Horse Comics. Luke is in command of Republic forces sent to the planet Rychel in order to repel the invading forces of the Yuuzhan Vong.
The figure was mostly sculpted in Aves Epoxy FIXIT sculpt using a plastic articulated armature. The forearms and hands have been recasted from original parts. The head originalted from a Legacy Snowspeeder Luke figure, casted in wax and completly retooled and refined adding additional markings to the face, age lines, a lower brow, hair and ears...I also strengthened the jaw. The figure measures 3.75" in height. Painted using Floyquil Acrylics by testors.
Build update on the Narcissus Shuttle diorama - ALIEN - 1:18 scale. Completed the second storage compartment door and finished building the section itself.
Details haven't been added yet but both doors are functional and close very convincingly with magnets. A solid "TAP" sound to let you know it's shut - may sound silly but it's the sound of "success" to me being my first time building working doors at this scale from scratch.
It's turning out to be a very large diorama piece, and I havent even begun working on the forward sections of the ship which includes the pilot stations and that beautiful forward canopy. Everything is smooshed together a bit to fit onto my sketch board which measures around 22" x 25" so you can get the idea of scale. It's modular, so I can break it down to be manageable.
I'd like to get the frame build up for aft section (airlock door and overhead) before getting back to some figure creation and paint work. "Small moves Ellie, small moves"....a little at a time and look how it amounts up after a go or two! I'm in no rush.
