Build update on the Narcissus Shuttle - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Worked on the remaining frame work for the wall panels. Finished both yesterday and began adding detailing....which is going to take some time. Using a mix of styrene, Epoxy and various misc items (greeblies) to build out the details. I've decided to begin building back into the shuttles main entrance first before moving into the pilot stations...for the exception of the wall panel with all the piping rolling around. I really want to do that wall! HA! So the storage compartments will be separate sections and the airlock will be a separate section..the only way I can build this will be to keep it modular. ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎narcissus‬ ‪#‎shuttle‬ ‪#‎diorama‬ ‪#‎stowaway‬ ‪#‎bigchap‬ ‪#‎luckystar‬ ‪#‎scratchbuilding‬ ‪#‎modelbuilding‬

Completed Jedi Master Luke Skywalker as seen in issue #3 of Star Wars Invasion by Dark Horse Comics. Luke is in command of Republic forces sent to the planet Rychel in order to repel the invading forces of the Yuuzhan Vong.

The figure was mostly sculpted in Aves Epoxy FIXIT sculpt using a plastic articulated armature. The forearms and hands have been recasted from original parts. The head originalted from a Legacy Snowspeeder Luke figure, casted in wax and completly retooled and refined adding additional markings to the face, age lines, a lower brow, hair and ears...I also strengthened the jaw. The figure measures 3.75" in height. Painted using Floyquil Acrylics by testors.

The Egg Morpher (Xeno) - ALIEN: Defiance (Dark Horse Comics) - 1:18 scale....Pulled from the pages of the Dark Horse Comics series Alien: Defiance and inspired by the artwork of artist Tristan Jones.

Sculpt update - Began working on the build late last week but haven't had time to post updates so what you will see here is a series of images taken along the course of several days (more like very late nights). The material I am using is Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Studio LLC.

I always begin with sculpting the head first. This creature is larger that the standard xeno warrior so the figure will be featuring a completely new sculpt, no recast parts from others I've made. The body will be similar to the big chap (alien 79), but slightly larger, with longer limbs and fingers. I'm staying true to the artists concepts and panel depictions of the beast within the comic....to the best of my ability. This isn't my first rodeo when it comes to sculpting comic based characters (Star Wars anyone?).

The skull will be a hard shell, similar to the warrior drone. Very similar to the spitter alien (Colonial Marines) so I'm using a reduce frame of an existing spitter head cast. The head sculpt will feature both an open and closed mouth. Waiting to find out if the beast features a traditional inner jaw or an expanding protrusion similar to the Deacon from prometheus. About a half inch longer than the warrior drone head.

Much more to come - may revisit the sculpt on those teeth and make them a tad smaller....and more of them. More to come! #alien #aliens #defiance #darkhorsecomics #aliendefiance #eggmorpher #xenomorph #sculpture #avesfixitsculpt #avesstudio #miniature

Surgery went very well - Sculpt update on The Space Jockey - 1:18 scale - ALIEN. Spoke earlier about receiving new resource images that provided more detail on the creatures skull - particularly it's lower jaw. Come to find out the jaw is split....and unfortunately mine was not. I say "was" because last night I broke out the dremel and some smaller sculpting tools, carefully worked out the existing, now fully cured jaw and replaced is with a sculpted split version. May be difficult to see in these images since they were taken with my smartphone but I'm happy it's more film accurate now. Even thought the sculpt as a whole will not look exactly as the Giger set piece (trying to get it close), items like the jaw need to be accurate and was worth the risk to fix it smile emoticon ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎spacejockey‬ ‪#‎nostromo‬ ‪#‎derelict‬ ‪#‎giger‬ ‪#‎sculpture‬ ‪#‎biomechanical‬ ‪#‎diorama‬ ‪#‎avesfixit‬

Sculpt progress on the Newborn. Alien: Resurrection - 1:18 scale.

With the sculpt of the ALIENS(86) Queen in progress, I thought it would be fun to match her up with her future offspring thanks to Ripley 8 (going to have to be a fan to know what I'm talking about) and get a look at the scale. Once the lower jaw of the Queen is complete I will get a better idea but so far I think both scale pretty well with one another and enhances my hopes to one day have a Resurrection diorama featuring the "Birth of the Newborn". Till then, both stands on their own and both have a ton of work to have down before that road is crossed.

This update focuses in on the Newborn and it's open mouth variant I'm working on. My previous update featured the jaw wired into place. This week I'm sculpting in the gaps and detailing the optional tongue that will be held by a magnet.

From some of the early production images, the tongue appeared to have "buds" over its surface...possibly glads for smell and taste. A trait from Ripley's side of the family for sure. So I'm taking a blank tongue I formed using Aves FIXIT sculpt and detailing it with small portions of additional FIXIT forming the buds. The entire surface isn't covered in these glads so I need to pay attention as to not overdo the surface with these things LOL!

I know the Newborn doesn't get a ton of love from the Alien community but I must admit, it's been one of my more enjoyable projects over the past year or so...and I think it's because of the fusion between the human and the xenomorph. You get to work with a little of both when sculpting this guy....at least I don't have to sculpt a TAIL! LOL! That Queen though...the tail will be a major project in itself.

Hope you enjoyed the update. Any questions, let me know. Everything you see has been hand sculpted using Aves FIXIT Sculpt - a two-part epoxy that can be found here

Sculpt progress on The Queen - ALIENS 86 - 1:18 scale.

Plastic casting test on the head/jaw build. Rough test, nothing cleaned up or painted.

I used Smooth-On Smooth Cast 320. I do plan in casting the teeth in a transparent plastic eventually.

I've been molding and casting several pieces to my build over the past week or so and have taken some shots of the successes. Surprisingly everything turned out great for the exception of the Alien Warrior mold which I had to redo. More on that one later.

Here is a plastic casing of the four components to create the Alien Queen head and jaw. This is one of several variants that will be made to "plug and play" into the Queen's carapace.

I put one together using some of the initial pulls to get an idea how it will all work. Happy with the results. Next step will be moving onto the neck and variant head sculpts.

Comments/questions welcome! Hope you enjoy! More to come soon!

Sculpt progress on the Space Jockey - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Began sculpting the arms of the creature using Aves FIXIT s my sculpting material. Sharp/clean areas will be weathered, softened. The next step will be the shoulders, body and upper back portaion of the chair. Hands will be last before moving on to the rest of the piece. More to come! A very early work in progress of the awesome skin of Starkiller as a cybernetic construct. These were one of the additional costumes you could purchase seperately after the initial release of the original Force Unleashed game. This will not be an easy figure to create - look forward to seeing it's progression.

I hope these early images show you how much effort goes into creating these figures - probably the most difficult part of building one of these is the early stages, creating a working armature that will allow the articulation I want as well as support the sculpt work I intend to apply.

Sculpt update on the Egg Morpher - Aliens: Defiance (Dark Horse Comics) - 1:18 scale. I've been told by many fans of the species that this would be considered a Praetorian Xenomorph that has the ability to egg morph it's victims. I'm absolutely fine with that!

Closing in on completing the head sculpt of the beast. Enlarged the arc of the vertebral shell and added detail to the back and underbelly of the cranium. Still have a few more details to add before this and the jaw get a mold bath. This will be a tricky head sculpt to mold correctly. More to come! Including some new projects just getting started! #alien #aliens #defiance #xenomorph #praetorian #avesfixitsculpt #avesstudio #sculpting #nostromo #eggmorphing

Sculpt progress on the Space Jockey - 1:18 scale - ALIEN 79 - Finished the shoulders and began working on the "breating tube" apparatus. Some work on the sleep chamber crew - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Starting with Kane. I plan on doing static figures of each character sleeping in their chambers (diorama work in progress). Creepy image of his arms with pins jetting out but there is a reason for it all. Need to sculpt his sleep ware then add the forearms...then patch up the seams. I'll use the same body for Ash, Dallas and Brett. Parker will have a heavier sculpt. ‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎sleepchamber‬ ‪#‎nostromo‬ ‪#‎kane‬ ‪#‎sith_fire30‬

he forgot his lunch and had to return back home to pick it up.

More really bad drywall work. This is the kind of thing that lets you know that when "Holmes on Homes" says to get 10 or even 20 references for a major remodel, he's telling the truth. Check with the Better Business Bureau and Angie's List. Ask the state contractor's license board if there are complaints levied against him. Check his worker's comp and business insurance. No kidding, this is a lot of effort and does not seem necessary at the start of a project. Then a month later things look like this. Shit.

Some additional details added to the head sculpt of AVA - Ex Machina - 1:12 scale. Added the detailing to the machine skull as well as a more dramatic inset to separate the machine skull from the face of Ava. This will aid in the vacuum formed dome later. Sculpting her feet now. ‪#‎exmachina‬ ‪#‎ava‬ ‪#‎aliciavikander‬ ‪#‎A24‬ ‪#‎sith_fire30‬

Added additional details including the upper torso part of the suit.

Here is the work in progress on my second version of Kane wearing his Nostromo EV suit. Same steps as I went through with Dallas - I too a casting of the Kane head I finished earlier and resculpted the soft cap gear. I will begin working on Lambert soon.

Sculpt update on The Queen - (Aliens 86) and the Egg Morpher (Aliens: Defiance). All 1:18 scale, sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt by Aves Studio LLC.

Began sculpting the lower jaw of the Queen. Started with a rough sculpt of the jaw, eyeballing the proportion and adding addition girth to the sculpt that once cured can be reduced through carving and sanding.

You can see my progression via the images attached. The next step will be to add a separate gumline that will include a set of lower teeth. Again, separate from the jaw so I can cast the piece in clear resin when it's time for replication.

The "neck" of the queen will need to be reworked once the master casts have been made. I'm using the smaller Revoltech Queen figure as an articulation reference for much of the articulation points for my sculpt.

For the Eggmorpher from Defiance, I've been sculpting the details to the back of the creature including the "pipes" as I like to call them as well as the separate spinal piece that emerges just below the back of the neck.

Next challenge for this sculpt will be the hands and the upper legs.

I've got a ton of pieces to mold and cast. And since just getting over a bad illness and this hurricane scare, it put me off a couple weeks. Sorry about that. I will always try for sure to get one update a week...don't want anyone to think I've fallen off LOL!

Hope you enjoyed the update! Always, more to come!

Build progress on the Narcissus Shuttle interior - 1:18 scale - ALIEN 79. I decided to go ahead and build the wall panel opposite from the "stowaway" section as to keep everything balanced. As before, I'm using sheet styrene to build the frame for the wall - More detailing will come once the basic build is complete. I'm building the complete interior of the shuttle - panel by panel. I had in mind that once I was finished building the interior, I would build the exterior around it...but...now that I've realized how big this interior may become, building the exterior may not be realistic. IT CAN BE DONE, don't get me wrong, but I don't have the room to go that big..which is why I keep everything modular. Anyway, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it...‪#‎alien‬ ‪#‎nostromo‬ ‪#‎narcissus‬ ‪#‎diorama‬ ‪#‎scratchbuilding‬

Completed 1:18 scale, 4.25" tall sculpt of Darth Malgus - Sith Lord from the Lucasarts/Bioware MMO game Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Figure is a complete sculpt using a custom articluated frame as it's armature. The 8 different heads have all been sculpted and hand painted - each depicting a window of time in the life of Malgus and inspired by the cinematic trilogies created by Blur Studios: Return, Hope and Deceived.

All armor is hand sculpted and original. The chest and left shoulder armor are removable and can be replaced with "battle damaged" armor as an alternate. Hood is a sculpted piece and works along side the soft goods cape which is an altered piece from a store bought VOTC Darth Vader.

Lightsaber is hand sculpted, casted in plastic. Saber does not light up. Bean is removable from hilt.

Sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt and hand painted using Testors Polly Scale and Floquil acrylics.

Much more detail to the head this week - also worked on the upper arms. I feel the detail is going to be enormous with this figure once completed...and with a full range of articulation? Awesome! I'm looking forward to beginning the chest cavity.

However, many revisions need to take place before I am satisfied but I feel I am heading in the right direction. All Hail FIXIT SCULPT! I couldn't do this type of detail at this scale without it!

I hope these early images show you how much effort goes into creating these figures - probably the most difficult part of building one of these is the early stages, creating a working armature that will allow the articulation I want as well as support the sculpt work I intend to apply.

Build status on The Autodoc - Medical station on the Nostromo. ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Sorry for the delay in updates. Celebration was this past weekend and it wore me out! Created a counter balance within the tube that gives the table Plus the build had a minor setback that needed some serious TLC to improve the function of the revolving table as well as being able to accept detailing more accurately.

Simple images, nothing mind blowing. As the detail builds and expands, the pieces will be all more interesting. Created a counter balance within the tube that gives the bed a little give...like it's floating... instead of it being a solid structure. Hard to explain...you have to be here. LOL! Next step will be the monitors above the bed. Hope to have some of that completed by the end of the weekend.

Sculpt status on the 1:18 scale Space Jockey - Alien 79. Pre-sculpt work in progress using monster clay to get a better idea of placement and proportion. A "suggested" sculpt to say the least. I was hesitant on where to start with the Space Jockey - do I start with the alien itself or the chair? Then I went back through my refference shots and found that Giger and Peter Voysey began the sculpt of the Alien first, then built the chair around it. So that's what I have begun doing. I will reduce the monster clay which will work as a frame for the final sculpt that will be made using Aves FIXIT Sculpt (Epoxy). Very excited to finally see it come into form! Build progress on the Narcissus Shuttle Diorama - particularly the "Stowaway" section - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Began adding the pipes that run within the cavity of the wall panel using acrylic rods.
