In 2025
Let them be upset.
Let them judge you.
Let them misunderstand you.
Let them gossip about you,
Let them ignore you.
Let them be "right."
Let them doubt you.
Let them not like you.
Let them not speak to you.
Let them run your name in the ground.
Let them make you out to be the villain.
Whatever it is that people want to say about you, let them!
Kindly step aside and LET THEM.

WC didn't run many extras up here in fact less that 50 come to my mind over the entire lifetime of the railroad. Most of those were plow, passenger or work trains. On August 9, 2001 they did run this extra freight though as 6598 made a late afternoon run east from Gladstone with some hot cars for the Munising branch and then ran the SD around the wye. They then picked up SDL 588 along with the 52 car connection off the Munising branch and departed westbound for Gladstone. Here they are near MP447 west of Trout Lake pouring on the ponies as they get up to track speed.
It seems like they grabbed whatever was available in Oak Island Yard for this extra OISE. The train is passing Ridgefield Park Station; note that the canopy on the Susquehanna side remained intact as of this date. C30-7A 6578 is unique in that it lost its red FRA marker lights after some nose damage was repaired. Here it features a "standard" GE nose with small class lights.

An El Paso, Texas (Alfalfa) to Tucson, Arizona extra manifest thunders over the top of the hill at Mescal with a trio of heavy ACs on the point (no DPU). This manifest train really popped in the open desert with a colorful mixture of railcars to watch come around the bend. The train seemed to be very well blocked out with a mishmash of single cars from here to the curve, followed by a large block of empty Autos, Highcubes and Centerbeams. The rear end was more a an interesting localized block of copper mining products and byproducts that probably only see a small section of the North American rail network.
This train and a few others have a companion video available here: youtu.be/IPE7NEl5ETE
A rare Sunday extra job out of Lansing, running as U305, is departing Ensel Yard. The crew will take their pair of SD40-3s and 70+ cars east to Howell, where the train will be left for the Great Lakes Central to pick up. The old bracket mast on the right held a searchlight, once upon a time.
MC 2011 leads the MBRRE extra down the hill in New Bedford. MC GP9RM 2008 was trailing. The MBRRE chartered this train to go down the lines being rebuilt for the South Coast Rail Project.
September, 2013:
BNSF #8262 leads a westbound rack train through Flagg Center on the C&I. #8262 was one of 25 SD75Ms delivered to BNSF immediately after the 1996 BN-ATSF merger. Rated at 4,300 horsepower, the SD75Ms were a more powerful version of the SD70M; only 76 models were produced.
With new ES44C4s arriving in 2014, the unit was renumbered to #262 and was ultimately rebuilt at Mid-America.

Good to know where they stack up their extra benches in case one is needed.

The Bandini Bandits strike again.
Union Pacific 6153 and 5500 get a small ray of sunlight as they travel compass south for a brief stretch, as the Marion Arkansas bound extra intermodal gets underway again after a crew change at Tucson. At just over fifteen thousand feet in length this slow stack had quite a few "popped cans" on the train, either from point of origin or one of the many high theft areas along the urban hellscape that is the Union Pacific in the LA Basin and even the Low Desert. I will have to say though don't think I've ever seen one directly behind the power luckily it doesn't look like these assholes got anything most of it was loaded deep or palletized.
Engineer Larry St. Martin has a good set on his train as he rolls down the hill into the sag where the SOO crosses the Millecoquins River east of Engadine on April 25, 1978. 707 is working an extra west with 45 cars on a bright spring morning. There's still traces of snow to be found in shadowed areas in the wood even though we are approaching May.
