BAL-05, with the CP 6241 and 6303 in their sharp Golden Beaver scheme leading, weave through some curves along the appropriately named Great River Road north of Guttenberg, IA on the west edge of the Mississippi River Valley. An old MILW line pole for some reason hangs on here, one of the few anywhere along this line to my knowledge. The ballast extra with it’s two set of GREX conveyor cars has been trying to weave through traffic southbound on the Marquette sub all day. Some minor signal issues at the siding at Eckards had delayed the train ahead (K50) and now this BAL-05 was running on restricting signals behind the slower freight most of the way to Dubuque it seemed. But that made for a nice chase for me! This sharp SD60 duo didn't last super long before one of them was replaced with a GP20ECo, unfortunately.
The CTC for this stretch around Eckards to Dubuque is relatively new. The CP has slowly been implementing CTC on the Marquette Sub from Sabula, IA to Bluff (La Crescent, MN), and has finally made it to Marquette with just a few "islands" of track warrant control "dark" territory left south of there. Given the increase in traffic on this line that is a key link in the CPKC’s Canada to Mexico route it certainly does seem warranted. Ballast trains are a common sight on the Marquette as they shuttle rock to expansion and heavy maintenance projects all throughout eastern Iowa from the pit at Waterloo, WI.

Como este lunes no tenía clase y me había enterado que el Poago - Salamanca había bajado el viernes con las tres primeras res con alambrón "extra", me fui el lunes a esperarle en su salida a Portugal.

A CP extra west with a rare western GP9 leading climbs the hill west of London, Ontario at Hyde Park. The train is heading for a meet at Lobo siding with an RS18 and FP7A trailing on December 30, 1976.
With the Severn Tunnel still shut due to a new road bridge being installed, the extra working have to come this way round. So thats a bonus This working is 70807Westbury Tarmac Colas Rail to Aberthaw Tarmac Colas Rail with a little bit of scarce sunshine falling on it.
The diversion was to be for 2 weeks but its now into week 4

A pair of SD40E helpers cling to the rear of 13E as it passes through Cresson. Although now on the downhill, the helpers still provide useful dynamic braking to keep train speeds in check.

An early morning job running as Extra 774 west rips through Garnet with 774 leading 2230-A and only 11 cars on February 13, 1978. The SOO was burdened with more eastbound business than westbound at the time and about three evenings a week there would be an eastbound extra that would run with anywhere from 85-150 cars. This was business that couldn't be handled on daily freight 912 which was filled out to over 100 cars most days. Westbound business wasn't as heavy and the returning crew and power off the extra's would often have only a handful to 50 cars. The westbound extras normally did local work so 911 could be expedited but on this day it appears there was no local work just overflow off 911 with those big ACR chip battlewagons on the head pin.

We find a VIA Rail extra west arriving at London, Ontario with a pair of FPA4's, the 6760 has lost the engineer side flag off the wooden staff the entire flag blown off on the fireman side. This train a positioning move for a scheduled eastbound London to Toronto run in a hour or so - May 27, 1979.
A CMQ extra backs out of the yard at Brownville Jct. with whole train bound for Pan Am at Northern Maine Jct.
Some of the trees in Lassen National Park suffered from drought, heat or bug damage. Trees in this condition burn very easily - much of the eastern half of the park had already been burned in a huge forest fire. These days it is very common to find damaged trees in the western United States and Canada.

SALMOREJO, 2026
Salmorejo is a traditional soup originating from Córdoba, Andalusia, southern Spain, made of tomato, bread, extra virgin olive oil and garlic.
The salmorejo is served cold and may be garnished with diced Spanish ibérico ham and diced hard-boiled eggs.
First references to the word "salmorejo" date back to the 17th century, being a transitional soup between the old and new world.
Differences with gazpacho and variations: Salmorejo is more pink-orange in appearance than gazpacho, and is much thicker and creamier in texture, because it includes more olive oil and a different kind of bread (in gazpacho, stale bread soaked in water is generally used).
There are several variations in Andalusia, including ardoria and porra antequerana (with bits of tuna as topping).
In the photo, taken in San Juan de Los Terreros (Almería, Spain) you can see those pieces of Iberian ham, pieces of boiled egg, a drizzle of olive oil and the green band is parsley.
I tried hard to get a comp of this beautiful falls but the light behind was too harsh to shoot the top of the falls. I opted for a closer in shot cutting off the top of the falls leaving it kind of mysterious !! Sometimes it's what you can't see....Kris
A docent at the aquarium told us that a second, unplanned turtle appeared in this exhibit, presumably abandoned by a visitor.

Hasselblad 500C + Planar 80mm f/2.8, Lomography Potsdam in Rodinal 1+33 (approx. - whatever developer was left in 600ml of originally 1+25 solution after using it on three 135/36 films. I guess that each film consumes about 2ml of Rodinal during development)
n.b.: Lomography's Potsdam Kino 100 is the first of their films that meets some quality standards. Apparently it is new re-labeled Orwo UN54...
ACR 104 and 100 lead 80 cars on an extra north down Northland Hill near Searchmont on February 14, 1987. Now this was how to spend Valentine's Day:)....no wonder I was single at the time. A rescan of one of my early attempts with my old scanner.
