Glossy Ibis- Plegadis Falcinellus
Flocks of Glossy Ibis forage quite close together, advancing slowly as they probe a muddy area. This activity often attracts Snowy Egrets and other species of waders, which capture minnows and other prey moving away from the feeding ibis flocks.
Glossy Ibises nest in colonies, often among other species of ibis, heron, egret, or spoonbill. Colonial nesters have the advantage of many extra sets of eyes looking out for predators. Colonies might also be places where highly gregarious species like ibises can share information about the most productive foraging areas.
Glossy Ibis is a cosmopolitan species, also found in Europe, Asia, and Africa. In recent decades, its population in Spain has been increasing rapidly, probably helped by increased rice cultivation there. Glossy Ibises banded in Spain have turned up as far away as Barbados, having crossed the Atlantic—a remarkable feat but one that several species of heron and egret have managed as well.
The oldest recorded Glossy Ibis was at least 21 years old and lived in Virginia between 1971 and 1992.
Not particularly common for CP to run to Falconbridge in the morning, so shots like this with the yard 6 axles is relatively uncommon.

CSX extra grain train B965 is seen approaching Stockport Creek on the Amtrak Hudson Line with the one bit of sun I saw all day and double rainbow providing an excellent backdrop.
I came upon this pretty creek on one of the back roads the other day. I was trying to figure out the fence configuration here. It would seem to be more practical to just run the fence straight along the road on which I am standing.
However, someone felt it was necessary to build the fence down the bank, around the tree and into the water as well. Why? Maybe they had extra fencing they wanted to use up. Whatever the reason, I am happy to have it in my Happy Fence Friday photo.

Alot of people stop on the corner between Glenuig and Roshven. On a clear, sunny day it is a fantastic viewpoint either out to the small Isles of Muck, Eigg and Rum or inland up Loch Ailort with the mountains on either side. Too often the view is stunning but I can't decide whether to stop and take a picture. It's easy to say it will look this gorgeous any other day and drive on by. Today, with a bit of extra wind I just had to have a go at a panoramic shot (4 images)

The process continues, the imago that has remained upside down, as if off the hook, with an extra effort, as if it were a gymnastic exercise, will turn around and grab the exuvia with its front legs. This action will make it easier for you to fully hatch the abdomen.
This rollover lasts just three or four seconds after being in the rest phase for between 6 and 10 minutes. A matter of patience to get it.

A western meadowlark adds some extra effort to boost its singing prowess. Based on the residue on the rock, this must be a favorite perch!
My wife and I just got back from an amazing trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota. It was so wonderful to get out shooting and the critters did not disappoint as they were plentiful and willing subjects. Custer State Park has a wide variety of wildlife and is considered one of the top spots in the US for viewing this natural bounty.

CSX X648-24 rolls north through Trenton, KY, 225 miles from Louisville, KY via Nashville, TN. The flared radiator SD70MAC (4758) leading was a nice touch, especially in this lighting.
An extra with a nice lashup of CP 4429 & CMQ 3812 is shoving a long string of well cars into the Lachine IMS Yard.
Business was so good on the GB&W in spring 1977 that I was able to shoot a westbound extra running about 4 hours ahead of number 1 leaving Green Bay. This was the same spot that I'd shot number 1 the prior October in much better light. Just about to cross Military Avenue the 310 and 309 have 65 cars in tow as they head for the Rapids. A rescan.
