The "Twilight Express Mizukaze" is a one-off 10-car deluxe service set, with sleeping capacity of 34 passengers, that will come in to service on 17 June 2017. Seen here undergoing trials at Kyoto station, it is yet another incredible Japanese train design. The observation cars (symmetrically located at either end) include an outside balcony - though it's unclear to me whether the balcony will be accessible to passengers while the train is moving.

After many months of remodeling, I am finally happy with my 7 wide Hogwarts Express. Took some cues from Bricktrix (Carl), but a most of this is my own design. A touch simpler than his, but still pretty cool I think...
Disclaimer: Yes, I know - non-Lego brown track features heavily in my layout. This was purchased early in my rediscovery of Lego trains and was much cheaper. Whilst I intend to replace it all with Lego track, it is extremely expensive relative to what it is. Essentially, the choice has been - build a new engine, or replace 1/4 of the layout with grey track. For now, the brown stays. My apologies to the purists.

The Pony Express was a fast mail service crossing the North American continent from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California, from April 1860 to October 1861.
Pony Express stations were placed at intervals of about 10 miles (16 km) along the route [2], roughly the maximum distance a horse can travel at full gallop. The rider changed to a fresh horse at each station, taking only the mail pouch (called a mochila, Spanish (from Basque) for "pouch") with him. The Mochila was thrown over the saddle and held in place by the weight of the rider sitting on it. Each corner had a cantina, or pocket. Bundles of mail were placed in these cantinas, which were padlocked for safety. The mochila could hold 20 pounds (10 kg) of mail along with the 20 pounds of material carried on the horse, allowing for a total of 165 pounds (75 kg) on the horse's back. Riders, who could not weigh over 125 pounds, were changed about every 75–100 miles (120-160 km). Included in that 20 pounds were: a water sac, a Bible, a knife, a horn for alerting the relay station master to prepare the next horse, a revolver, and a choice of a rifle or another revolver[citation needed]. Eventually, they took away everything except one revolver and a water sac to cut down on the weight. The riders received $100 per month as pay.

2018 Work Duty: Chaperoning the kids in our program on the Polar Express Train Ride. The kids are encouraged to wear their favorite pajamas and experience a whimsical ride on the Polar Express where they will enjoy hot chocolate and yummy cookies, as they ride along with many of the beloved story’s characters such as the Train Conductor, the Dancing Waiters, and even a ghostly Hobo. Once we reached the North Pole, Santa Claus made his way on board to give each passenger a silver sleigh bell, the “first gift of Christmas”. The train ride consisted of 7 separate cars pulled by vintage locomotives. It was quite enjoyable. The kids loved it.
