Advanced stages of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) kept my conversation with Daniel fairly short on a sunny Friday afternoon. What I did learn about is that while the COPD effects his everyday life, Daniel still has a fairly good outlook on life. Getting out to enjoy the days while he still can, he manages to live life even when he has been told that he has less then a year to live. Hard words to swallow in my opinion, but when you've lived without a full-time place to live over the last 25 years; each day is a blessing.

Over the course of the last six years Daniel has had help from a variety of outlets to assist him in the search for housing. Presently he is labeled as an "Expectation of Death," which basically means that with his condition worsening by the day (and death could come at any time) he is put at the top of the list for openings. This way he has a place to spend the remainder of his time on Earth. While he doesn't expect it to happen anytime soon, Daniel did share a wonderful adaption on a quote he lives by everyday "Impossible is nothing, miracles take time" Great words to live by if I do say so myself, he told me he's heard it many times over the years and knows that he can't give up all hope.

With a slightly witty sense of joy, he humored me with a few tidbits about COPD and his age. While the disease effects one's lungs between coughs, he explained that he still smokes because it still brings him peace. At his age there isn't really much to enjoy in the world, and with such a debilitation of his style of life so be it! He also told me that he would like me to make sure that before posting in the 100 Strangers group and my 100 more strangers project that I use my Photoshop skills and give him a better physique. My greatest apologies Daniel, as I am not a master Photoshopper but a visual artist portraying the truth in people. Before we parted ways, I told him that I would keep him in my thoughts. He warned me he isn't the greatest with names or faces, so we may cross paths again and he will not recognize me.

It's all good in the long run, as Daniel is a stranger to many but I hope with sharing this photo with everyone that he will be less of one to you if you pass him by!

A little later and half in the expectation that the DMU due may well be the canary yellow liveried 'TdeF' unit 158849, seen plying the route between Leeds and Nottingham in the past, taken in August 2014 after the very successful Tour-de-France event in July of that year. Today however, nothing of the kind its just a plain old Norther Rail liveried 158, 158844 on the 1Y41 Leeds to Nottingham service. All indications are that Northern have lost the franchise to Arriva Trains and they plan on new units with their own, very different livery; so some change is 'blowing in the wind'. More colourful traction plies the very busy M1 in the background and the cutters torch, having been extinguished for a short time, is in full burn again on the side panels of the Gasometer tank. After removal of this pair of holders, there will only be the single gas holder left at the Effingham St. Gas Works at Attercliffe near the South Yorks Navigation (Tinsley Canal) and the site of the old Sheffield Victoria station. On the left, directly over-looking both the gas works and railway scene, is 'Revitalise', if you want to get 'Revitalised' with 'Vibration Training' then 'you know where to come', the small business on the stone bridge opposite the Gasometer is the place to be for some 'treatment sessions'... bet it was nice in there on a warm day when the Gasometer was full and in use! More information on the fate of the UKs Gasometers can be found here-

There are places where the reasonable expectation of personal space which your average American accepts, shrinks drastically.

Elevators are obvious places. But, what about wide open spaces?

How close can one approach a photographic subject, while they remain unaware and are simply carrying through with their habits?

We have expectations of privacy that are varied and staggered, but one thing that's absolute is that there are more photographic devices in the world than ever before.

Instead of studying a character from afar, for example with a telephoto lens, as if they are wildlife, what intimacy can you capture at a range normally not accepted, or even expected?

I am in your space.

Always set your expectations low - William Kelly

Is there another world for this frail dust

To warm with life and be itself again?

Something about me daily speaks there must,

And why should instinct nourish hopes in vain?

'Tis nature's prophesy that such will be,

And everything seems struggling to explain

The close sealed volume of its mystery.

Time wandering onward keeps its usual pace

As seeming anxious of eternity,

To meet that calm and find a resting place.

E'en the small violet feels a future power

And waits each year renewing blooms to bring,

And surely man is no inferior flower

To die unworthy of a second spring?

---- Sunday 19/05/2013, Limina - Sicily: the expectation that precedes the coming out of the Saint from his church, and His mad rush ...

.... this is a short-long report on the traditional feast of St. Philip which takes place in Limina (Sicily), this feast is held over two days:

the first day of feast takes place early in the month of May (this year On 11-05-2013), with the procession which reaches up to the district of "Murazzo"; the second day of feast takes place the third Sunday in May, called the "eighth" (this year On 19-05-2013).

St. Philip in antiquity was sent by the then pope in the land of Sicily, to evangelize the Gentiles, and cast out demons hiding in the island. The Sicilian town of Limina, dedicates to St. Philip a very typical festival, full of devotion and traditions (which in fact takes place in two non-consecutive days in the month of May).

The float with the Black Holy is carried on shoulders, high up on the hill called "Calvario", then the float returns to the country and here the Saint is rushed back and forth, but is also twirled rapidly; then the saint is again carried out of the country, reaching the district of "Durbi ", then He goes fastly back again to Limina ... and here the Black Holy of Limina continues its race-dance .....for a long long time.....

Name: Raphael Saint

Gender: Male

Age: Unknown; looks 22 -27

Blood Type: Unknown

Height: 6’4’’

Race: Angel

Eye Colour: Silver-blue

Hair Colour: White; in direct sunlight there are hints of his former blonde hair

Occupation: Warrior

Sexual Orientation: bisexual

Personality: Reserved, quiet. Has a high expectation of his fellow warrior (which is rarely met). He is generally described as intimidating because of his silence, and also quite calculative in action and word.

Distinguishing Marks: Battle scars, angelic wings spanning almost 14ft

Abilities: An excellent swordsman and experienced hand-to-hand combatant. An enhanced healing ability toward simple flesh wounds from man-made weaponry; however, if the weapon used to harm Raphael is cursed, demonic, or specifically intended to harm a holy creature, his healing time is significantly lowered- taking about the same amount as a human would to heal.

Weapons: Retractable bo-staff, measuring 7ft when at full length; Sword of Holy Fire

History: Before the dawn of man, the heavens were heavily populated with angels. Overseen by Archangels protecting the Son and Father, a peaceful society had been established. Time past and the word of the Father had become questioned by many, but one angel’s voice resounded louder than most. The angel Lucifer protested fellowship with the Father and Son and gathered many angels who agreed with his view.

They called themselves the resistance against God, and before long, the rebels outnumbered the followers. A great war broke out and waged for centuries. Heaven cracked and at that point the mouth of Hell was opened to banish the rebel angels. Three elder Archangels were killed in the frenetic battle as there was little planning throughout the unending war. Soon after, four Archangels were assigned to train and lead warriors against Lucifer and his rebels and act as leaders in the war:

° The Archangel Gabriel; the Messenger: Assigned to gather and inform warriors of the Heavens.

° The Archangel Uriel; the Philosopher: He introduced thought and careful planning to the battles. He also forged each soldier their own weapon which would appeal to the very fibre of their being.

° The Archangel Michael; the Warrior: He trained the Holy soldiers in combat and with their specific weaponry.

° The Archangel Raphael; the Healer: In charge of casualties and deaths, Raphael was said to have the most difficult task in the eyes of Uriel. In order to heal the victims of the battle, Raphael needed a heart greater than any other.

During the climax of the battle, Michael was killed at the hand of Lucifer. Raphael was overcome with grief when he was unable to fully heal Michael. Death had crept up and Raphael could do little to stop it. With a heavy heart, Raphael informed Michael his time had come to die. Michael charged Raphael with his weapon, the sword of Holy Fire; capable of vanquishing the darkest evil and his title; Warrior.

After Michael was killed, Raphael sought out Lucifer. The cunning rebel found Raphael first and wounded the Archangel's left wing. They fought and Raphael, having lost confidence was wounded beyond recognition; his wings had been stripped to the bone, body beaten, and weapon broken. It was when he feared the end for him had come, that he remembered Michael’s sword. He wielded the great blade and finally, Lucifer was cast into the bowels of Hell.

The victory was great. Lucifer and his rebels had been cast into Hell and the Heavens were sewn. However, the victory was small for Raphael. He had lost a brother in arms and counted his wounding against Lucifer, though he had overcome it, as a defeat. His wings were stripped and that was a great embarrassment. He was a great embarrassment. Raphael exiled himself to the terrain below Heaven known as Earth.

He took a last name from legends written of the great battle and everything in between. Apparently the humans had classified some warriors, including himself, as ‘Saints’. He found this ridiculous, but took the idiom as his surname.

Since then, Raphael has healed fully. His wings are tattered and greying and with the exception of a few battle scars he looks healthy. He has been a simple traveler, helping various Kingdoms and cities with wars and battles. He has settled nowhere.
