Happy Wing Wednesday!

I decided to catch the sunrise at Point Arkwright today. It was the last day before rain was expected for the next week. I love the colour and the striping in the rocks. The rock pool added a few reflections. Very peaceful.

Sometimes, fireworks don't explode where you expect them... Thanks to photoshop, I develop my own technique to put them where I want them to be plus combining this with my DRI technique.

Parfois les feux d'artifices n'explosent pas toujours là où on voudrait... Grâce à photoshop, j'ai développé ma technique qui me permet de les mettre là où je les veux en la combinant à ma technique DRI.

My technique is alway the same:

Three exposures -2EV, 0, +2EV and then temperature adjustement using Lightroom and layering with luminosity mask using photoshop. Removal of distracting stuff with the stamp tool or patch tool. High pass filter to enhance details. Then saturation, contrast selectively control, dodge and burn where need...

DRI stand for Dynamic Range Increase. Three RAW files are used to achieve this. Rather than using a software like Photomatix for instance, I simply use mask to blend, my own way, the light, dark and normal shot with Photoshop and Lightroom.. To me, It looks more natural than the usual HDR treatment that I would normally applied.

Dodge and burn là où requis...

I hope to have some good news soon...

Just love the way it's taking off on little tippy toes, all I've got are deer pics from Bradgate Park at the moment, I'm like a little lost sheep in the evenings without foxes to go and see.

Not sure I expected any sort of shot at ISO 12800 on a grey afternoon, shot from the distance I shot it., with a 2x extender, but the wonders of Dxo helped out.

Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life and repeat to yourself, the most comforting words of all; this, too, shall pass.

Expecting a nice sunset, I went for a drive. I noticed these interesting clouds forming to the east so I scrambled to find a subject to photograph. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to compose my foreground the way I wanted (wet marsh), but when those clouds lit up....... wow!

didn't expect to find an escapee on our walk

Btw Expect me to post somewhat frequently for a bit as I’m planning on revamping 75-80% of my figs, but also not so much as I’ll be waiting for orders to come in

Now the figures

Nightwing- tried out the 2016 head on the 2006 torso, gotta say I’m pretty satisfied with it

Bronze tiger- possibly my favorite of the bunch, can’t believe I hadn’t had a bt fig til now

Red arrow- simply swapped out his head but it’s a pretty big improvement from the Lone Ranger head

Azreal- changed him back to jpv really like how he turned out

Black lighting- went for a more comic look as I had his tv show look since the trailer dropped

Sorry for the big leave of absence I hadn’t realized I hadn’t posted in over 2 months. Honestly had lost quite a bit of interest until recently

"To expect the unexpected shows a thoroughly modern intellect."

~ Oscar Wilde

Having checked the Watercress Line's website earlier in the week, I was expecting only diesels to be hauling trains this weekend due to the hot, dry weather and associated fire risk. That made it a nice surprise when I heard a whistle in the distance and saw S15 Class 506 heading up the hill from Alresford.

Locomotive: LSWR Urie S15 Class 4-6-0 506.

Location: Northside Lane foot crossing near Ropley, Mid-Hants Railway/Watercress Line, Hampshire.

I'm approximately one year into fanning on the CP North Toronto sub and in the 13ish months, I've learned to never be suprised at anything CP does. With rumors flying left right and center about the SD70ACUs being mandated trailing locomotives, it was both suprising and not suprising (becuase CP) that one was going to be the sole power on a Chicago to Toronto autorack train. Fast forward a day, CP 2-240 is in Wolverton with CP 7058 and they decide to lift UP 4101 (Who came into Wolverton on a different train). Also; shocker, they were running light power to Toronto with a lift at Hornby. Unexpectedly (or maybe it should be expected), they lifted 3 tankers in Hornby and continued east, not stopping (aside from getting blocked by GO) until Toronto yard.

When I say expect the unexpected, its in reference to these sub 10 car trains that routinely see on "autorack" trains.

yep, no food mate, I didn't expect you here in the Reserve

A visit to the East coast of Yorkshire and the Buckton and Bempton area. Weather was cold, showery and at times overcast. Not what we expected for mid May.

The 2nd day out had slightly better conditions. These images are from the south end of RSPB Bempton and Northwick Cliffs.

The Cliffs around Bempton and Northwick support the largest Seabird colony in the UK.

Looks like our resident deer may have more babies again this year. The deer on the other side of the tree is from her first litter and the brother was hit by a car. The two that were born from last year are no longer seen. We don't know what happened to them, it was too early for them to leaver their mother. A bit sad but I suppose that is what happens.

Astronomers using NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope have discovered that the universe is expanding 5 percent to 9 percent faster than expected.

“This surprising finding may be an important clue to understanding those mysterious parts of the universe that make up 95 percent of everything and don’t emit light, such as dark energy, dark matter and dark radiation,” said study leader and Nobel Laureate Adam Riess of the Space Telescope Science Institute and Johns Hopkins University, both in Baltimore, Maryland.

The results will appear in an upcoming issue of The Astrophysical Journal.

Lesson learned: expect the unexpected

We're expecting another blizzard today... this epic sunrise is a warning of the impending storm!

the macromonday group's theme for today, 12/3, is balance. this one is probably my favorite of the ones i did for the theme, but i probably won't post it-- the blown out light is a distraction., even if i liked the sparkly gold bokeh ~grin~

I had been expecting a long-distance Charger on this train, but apparently that did not happen until at least the next day. Just one of the many disappointments lately surrounding Amtrak's newest motive power. In any event, the P42s aren't gonna last forever, so why not record 'em. 146 leads two others on a relatively on-time number 8, the eastbound 'Empire Builder', at Racine Avenue on Chicago's near west side. On this side of the signal bridge anyway, this scene is significantly less photogenic since the demolition of the old ADM mill, but you make do.

expect the unexpected...many wildlife photographers know stories about that. we found this western tiger swallowtail while looking for bears, southern BC

Despite being English, I've never particularly been a fan of the royals but the fact Meghan and Harry are now hanging out in Victoria, BC seems to have people quite excited. :-)

I didn't expect to see Orioles in the desert during the summertime, but apparently some have stayed. My neighbor has water running all the time to water his Cottonwood trees and has created a small oasis for birds. Lucky me!

We can regularly expect to see two of our four US Sapsuckers up here in the mountain (8600 ft. msl). The other one that is regular is the Williamson's. The Red-breasted is primarily a West Coast bird, and the Yellow-bellied is mainly an Eastern bird... although vagrants may show up anywhere in North America. Because of limited high-altitude access to areas favored by the Williamson's, that species is probably the most sought after by listing NM birders. Although this Red-naped Sapsucker is a mostly only a Rocky Mountains species, it still has a wider mapped range than the Williamson's.

Taken with an outstanding Ricohmatic 225. This is a 120 roll film 6x6 TLR, shot on Kodak Ektar 100 film and self developed. Every frame on this roll came out perfectly exposed using the built in uncoupled selenium light meter. 64 or so years old and this camera is a gem.

This photo of the local golf course was taken at 6:00 am in the morning after humid night following very hot day. And today the temperature is expected to remain around 30C. The scene somehow reminds me of the movie "Gorillas in the Mist".

not sure what I expected from this - but here it is

The dark shrouded figure placed his hand on the vault door. Closing his eyes, he felt every gear and spring in the mechanism. He paused, remembering a time when he had been a hero. When he had fought against what he had become. He banished that thought and continued with his work. The people he had dedicated his life to protect had repaid him with alienation, calling him a monster, freak, and mutant. They were fools. Now it was time to get what he deserved!

Suddenly there was a tremendous crash as glass flew across the room. The figure that stood in the shattered remains of the window was his old friend, whom he betrayed and left for dead. The only one who could spoil the criminal's plan.

The newcomer smiled, brushing glass shards off his cape.

"Expecting me?"

Expect to have hope rekindled. Expect your prayers to be answered in wondrous ways. The dry seasons in life do not last. The spring rains will come again.

I'd like to dedicate this to a lady photographer from Uzbekistan, Umida Akhmedova, who was found guilty of "damaging the spiritual values" of Uzbekistan and "slandering the nation". All because of pictures she took that, for me, are of a life rich in traditions that we all can learn from.

For us who live in places where artistic freedom is taken for granted, let us be thankful for this privilege and always remember that with this freedom comes responsibility.

Tynemouth, as might be expected, is a town at the mouth of the River Tyne, a few miles from Newcastle. Historically part of Northumberland, the modern town of Tynemouth includes North Shields and Cullercoats. We came back home this way in September following a short holiday in south-east Scotland.

The history of Tynemouth dates back to an Iron Age settlement and its strategic position on a headland over-looking the mouth of the Tyne. The heart of the town - seen here - is known by residents as "The village" and has popular coffee-shops, pubs and restaurants. It is a prosperous area with comparatively expensive housing stock, ranging from Georgian terraces and Victorian ship-owners' houses to 1960s "executive homes".
