Moissac market in October

1 African Blackwood. Difficult to work, blunts tools, finest of turning woods,

holds screw threads nearly as well as metal!

considered among the hardest and denseness wood in the world.

2 Bocote. SouthAmerica, oily waxy feel but glues ok, lustrous,

3 Leadwood. SouthAfrica, difficult to cut, dense, tear-out.Turns well.

4 Wenge. Varies in density, leaves sanding pockets, splinters are infectious.

large pours, blunts tools.

Exotic species like these American oaktrees, which are not native in Europe, are cut down to enhance our own biodiversity. Quercus rubra can be very aggressive in our regions (Belgium). This picture was took in Hallerbos.
