I'm in the posting mood this morning. Additionally, as inspired by Zeb Andrew's posts, I am inspired to tell the story behind this shot. Sooo....here goes....
Today (12/14/08), at the lovely hour of 3:00am my entire apartment building was awakened to a loud racket. Now, this racket was not hooves on the rooftop, but a deafening fire alarm! We've had this happen in our building before, where the alarm would go off for a few seconds and then magically shut off. In those instances one can go back to their business (whether it be daily activities...or SLEEP) in a matter of a few minutes. I think there is something faulty with the alarm myself, as there has never been any noticeable reason for it to go off. Anyway, this best-case-scenario-at-3:00am was, of course, not meant to be. The alarm continued to go off, and folks began to exit the building. Even so, it was my suspicion from the beginning that there was nothing wrong as no evidence of smoke, through any of the five senses, existed.
So here we are, the residents of the entire building are standing out in the cold for half an hour, only to hear the guys from the fire department (as I suspected) say that they can't find anything wrong. However, also adding to my case for the alarm being goofed up, they can't get the alarm to reset. Wait...there's more. To top it off, there is no handy point of contact for the fire department regarding the alarm company or apartment management. (I'm not sure if that's commonplace, but I think it perhaps should be.)
At that point they told us it was safe to go back in, which everyone took advantage of. Still, I can't help but to feel extra safe knowing that the fire alarm in our building is, perhaps, on the fritz.
So that's my story.
Regarding the image...I came home from work one evening back in September to find the hallway lights off in our apartment building. The power was on, but someone had flipped the hallway switch apparently. Anyway, the vanishing point at the end of the hallway looked like it needed its picture taken. I set up in the middle of the hallway....shot the stairway door to my right and then rotated the camera in mid-shot to look down the hallway. I thought it was a cool effect.
It also kind of represents what everything looks like when you're woken up from deep sleep at 3:00am in the morning, with a fire alarm going off.....A BLUR!!

Ivy covered wall and a sign leading to Elsong Gardens Courtyard at the Emy-Lou Biedenharn home in Shreveport Louisiana. The botanical garden and museum is located beside the Ouachita River in Monroe, Louisiana. The garden's name is short for Emy-Lou’s song, named after Emy-Lou Biedenharn, who had a vocal career in Europe. The garden's themed settings include the Four Seasons Garden, Oriental Garden, and Musical Grotto.

I spotted this accidentally when I happened to look in a window of a building where I was getting some photos of the pilasters!

I wanted to experiment with Kodak black and white film, which gives it kind of a horror movie atmosphere.

I woke up the other morning to the front-page shocking news that the Warner Theatre is going out of business on September 6, 2010.
I am very concerned about the future of the building after hearing this. I suppose I encourage any interested parties to head down to the Warner and show your support, or perhaps send an email or Facebook note. There is also a phone number to contact if you have questions on the Facebook page.
I broke down in tears ;__; I've had nightmares for days about this, I can't sleep, I'm so upset. Seriously.
I got these two over the summer for such a good price that I didn't consider the mounting option. Turns out they're double sided, resulting with the Lithonia Quantum 1st gen. being installed as an alternative (as seen in earlier photos).

I really didn't take many photos last night, but this was one I wanted composed exactly the way it is...

This looks to be an older version of the ES series being that it has the retro arrow inserts, not something found on later revisions of this sign.
