Tech note: 4 or 5 m away was still too far for a tight shot--even at 600mm--so I added 25% to the crop factor with a 20fps burst for a 750mm field of view, or about 1150mm full-frame equivalent. 16 hand-held images made it a candidate for super-resolution. Cropped even tighter--maybe a factor of two--then interpolated to about double, auto-aligned, converted to smart object, median stack. The subject was not completely motionless, but it turned out OK, I think.

On peut retrouver à la fois du néoclassique, de l’art nouveau, de l’art déco, du baroque et même du néo-gothique. Par ailleurs, entre la fin du XIXè puis début du XXè, les matériaux utilisés venaient de Milan et de Paris.

The recently erected Lancaster Gateway memorial between Lincoln and Newark, adjacent to the A46, is the area’s equivalent of the ‘Angel of the North’ sculpture. Titled “On Freedom’s Wings” it depicts a Lancaster Bomber which crashed nearby after limping home from a mission over the Baltic. It’s also intended as a general memorial to the area’s aviation links to the Second World War.
Access is extremely limited at present, a private road prevents gaining a reasonable vantage point. You are therefore left with parking on the road side, which isn’t too bad on the back roads, and there’s a nearby lay-by on the north bound carriage of the A46, but this is an extremely busy, fast, dual carriageway!
However open days to site have now been announced for the next couple of Sundays, starting 12th, and next week the 18th October, 10am to 4pm, with more to come.
Search “On Freedom’s Wings” for more info.

Bodhisattvas are ascetics striving to become Buddha. They are roughly equivalent to Christian saints. There are dozens of Bodhisattvas including those derive from Hindu deities.

Tower Bridge is a Grade I listed combined bascule, suspension, and, until 1960, cantilever bridge[1] in London, built between 1886 and 1894, designed by Horace Jones and engineered by John Wolfe Barry with the help of Henry Marc Brunel. It crosses the River Thames close to the Tower of London and is one of five London bridges owned and maintained by the City Bridge Foundation, a charitable trust founded in 1282.
The bridge was constructed to connect the 39 per cent of London's population that lived east of London Bridge, equivalent to the populations of "Manchester on the one side, and Liverpool on the other", while allowing shipping to access the Pool of London between the Tower of London and London Bridge. The bridge was opened by Edward, Prince of Wales, and Alexandra, Princess of Wales, on 30 June 1894.
The bridge is 940 feet (290 m) in length including the abutments and consists of two 213-foot (65 m) bridge towers connected at the upper level by two horizontal walkways, and a central pair of bascules that can open to allow shipping. Originally hydraulically powered, the operating mechanism was converted to an electro-hydraulic system in 1972. The bridge is part of the London Inner Ring Road and thus the boundary of the London congestion charge zone, and remains an important traffic route with 40,000 crossings every day. The bridge deck is freely accessible to both vehicles and pedestrians, whereas the bridge's twin towers, high-level walkways, and Victorian engine rooms form part of the Tower Bridge Exhibition.
Tower Bridge has become a recognisable London landmark. It is sometimes confused with London Bridge, about 0.5 miles (800 m) upstream, which has led to a persistent urban legend about an American purchasing the wrong bridge.

I really take this quote to heart with my photography. My images with snails are my equivalent of "when life gives you lemons". Today I have combined the lemons and a snail and now have added text which adds extra difficulty to shooting the image. Fortunately I was patient and the snail cooperative so it came together.
How are you applying these philosophies to your life?

Hummingbirds need the equivalent of 300 fruit flies a day to survive. The shape of a hummingbird's beak allows for a "controlled elastic snap" that allows it to snatch up flying insects in a mere fraction of a second with greater speed and power than could be achieved by jaw muscles alone... full article here: www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/07/110719121356.htm

OK, probably not for the captain who navigated this boat through the Spree and Landwehrkanal on a wonderful birthday "Bridge Tour" eight (!) years ago.
I posted photos from this tour long ago (please check my album, if you like) but only images I had taken with my vintage 50mm Zuiko lens. During the second half of that tour, I'd used my 17mm lens – a lens that (hard to believe) has been sleeping in one of my photo gear drawers ever since because I'd never quite warmed up to it. I can't quite pin down why exactly, maybe I couldn't handle the focal length of 35mm equivalent, or maybe I didn't like the colours, or maybe both... But when I flipped through the "Bridge Tour" folder only yesterday, I realised, to my great surprise, that the m.zuiko 17mm F1.8 images are actually pretty nice, and that the lens renders beautifully crisp and sharp images, with good colours as well. So one thing is sure: This lens hasn't gotten enough love so far, and I will now change this ;)
Happy Sliders Sunday, Everyone!

I decided to take my Canon Powershot Pro 1 off the shelf to see if it still worked. I charged the battery and put it in the 16-year-old camera, and off I went. On a local back road, I came across a cub bear playing in some kind of foam that formed on the water. I extended the lens out to 51 mm or 200mm in 35mm film equivalent and took a few shots of the bear. Compared to today's beasts (cameras) focusing felt like it took forever, but the pictures are usable. With 8 megapixels and only sold from 2004 to 2006 it was at the time the most expensive point and shoot camera sold by Canon. It has an L series fixed lens, yes, L series lens, and it actually has the red ring around it. The 2-inch screen and an electronic view finder are terrible. I'm looking forward to taking the 20-year-old Kodak DX3600 and the 18-year-old Canon G3 out also. This picture was taken in RAW and I saved it as a TIF file after some minor adjustments.
Taken on Thanksgiving day, with thanks for the promise of renewal. 8.8mm is 24mm equivalent. Was surprised to discover that I took a third of my European vacation at this focal length. Normally think of myself as having 600mm eyes.

Eastern Cambodia is apparently an off-the-beaten-track destination. While Angkor Wat in the west is the principal draw for the most of international tourists to Cambodia, eastern Cambodia is striving to be an ecotourism destination. Treetop Ecolodge, located in the outskirt of Banlung, is one of such places in Ratanakiri Province. It is a beautiful place with wooden guestrooms built on stilts connected by a network of board walks.
Eastern Cambodia has been inhabited by ethnic minorities that was collectively named Khmer Loeu or Upper Khmer by Norodom Sihanouk. The naming is not so irrelevant as most of them speak Austroasiatic languages as Khmer and Vietnamese except for some Austronesian language speakers. They are the equivalent of Montagnard in Vietnam.
It is noted that Austroasians are indigenous to Indochina, northeastern India and southern China judging from their scattered distribution in these areas.

To get this shot would be the equivalent of a buying a winning lottery ticket. While waiting for the W&LE 663 train at Kent, a CSX westbound showed up about one minute before the 663. Please excuse my going off on a tangent, but this might be of interest to some people. As I was processing this picture I realized that what I was doing was equivalent to an informal mindfulness meditation practice Years ago I practiced meditation, but I quit after a few years; then in 2020 I listened to a couple of lecture series on Mindfulness, but I kept falling asleep when I tried to meditate.. I have recently listened to those lectures again and started meditating. As I was processing this picture I realized what I was doing was exactly what the lecturers describe as the objective of a mindfulness practice. In both formal and informal mindfulness the objective is to focus only on the present. Some tasks that are used for informal mindfulness meditation are eating, driving and walking. For example when I do my walking meditation I focus on my steps, which is easy as my walking shoes squeak badly. When I’m processing a picture I tend to hyper focus on what I’m doing to the exclusion of everything else. I lose track of time and completely ignore my surroundings; I will often miss a meal even though I can see the time on my computer. There is a great deal of research that shows that this type of activity is very beneficial to your mental wellbeing. I’m currently meditating 26 minutes five days a week and trying to work up to 45 minutes, but the quality of my meditation is not nearly as good as I get when processing a picture, although it is getting better. Perhaps I should just spend more time processing my pictures.
This is the equivalent of Looe's High Street, and in the evening in the winter months it is often virtually deserted. The holiday crowds have disappeared and the local residents are probably either sitting in front of the fire at home or enjoying an evening with their friends in the local pub.
