The 4.5 mm focal length used here is the equivalent of a 25mm moderately wide angle on a 35 mm camera. It gives me focus from foreground to infinity and is my ultimate point and click setting. I think this is a Menil Roe Deer.

Shot from a distance with the OM1 72mm lens, equivalent to 144mm on full frame. It is very sharp, very happy with this lens.

• en dômes ;en coulées courtes et épaisses (laves visqueuses) ;en blocs ;

DESCRIPTION:

On 16 February , at about 17:00, there was a short but violent eruption of volcano Etna. The eruption begun with an explosion followed by a massive lava fountains rising from the South-Est crater, one of the summit craters. This phase lasted just under two hours, then quickly the phenomenon decreased in intensity and after few hours the volcano went back to sleep. The picture shows the South Est crater at a time when the paroxysmal phase is over, but the lava keeps to coming out from the cracks of the crater created by the explosion . The incandescent fumes that partially cover the crater , come from the Central crater and from the other summit craters.

By 1929, Packard controlled half the world's prestige car trade.

His cars were associated with Hollywood and the American High Society and was the equivalent of the English Rolls Royce.

By 1953 the variety of models had become far too great for the Packard factory to operate profitably.

Therefor Packed merged with Studebaker in 1954 to compete with the "Detroits Big Three".

In 1955 the new models of this merger were introduced, but because the technicians did not had time enough to solve the technical problems of the cars, the reliability of the car brand fell drastically and sales plummeted.

This was the rerason that the once famous car brand disappeared.

Today this model of 1929 is a highly sought- after collector's item and the highest resale value is $ 115.500,00

His engine was a naturally aspirated petrol engine which was virtually vibration- free.

The car was equiped with a 3- speed gearbox and had a cylinder capacity of 5.2 liters and was equiped with 8 cylinders, each with two valves.

Despite this large displacement, the engine only had an output of 90 HP/ 67 Kw!

Anyway, it is a real thrill to be able to see such an old vehicle in its full glory........

The Steller's Jays are back! About two weeks ago I heard a familar call that I hear about this time of the year every year. The Stellar Jays have moved down from the higher elevations where they hang out during the summer months. We have three that have been visiting our feeders and I find myself putting out peanuts for them.

The Stellar Jays range from Alaska to central America and are the equivalent to their eastern cousin the Blue Jay.

The Steller's Jay is British Columbias provincial bird.

"chichen Itza" meant "the mouth of the Wizard's well". and was a great magical ceremonial and sacrifial center. Sacrifices were mainly male though maidens were also thrown into the well.

A very poetic, but dark and fascinating culture based on sacred ritual.

The New York State Capitol, the seat of New York State government, is located in Albany, the capital city of the U.S. state of New York. The capitol building is part of the Empire State Plaza complex on State Street in Capitol Park. The building is a marvel of late 19th-century architectural grandeur, built by hand of solid masonry over a period of 25 years.Housing the New York State Legislature, the building was completed in 1899 at a cost of US$25 million (equivalent to $711 million in 2015), making it the most expensive government building of its time. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, then included as a contributing property when the Lafayette Park Historic District was listed in 1978. The New York State Capitol was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1979

Porto or Oporto is the second-largest city in Portugal and one of the Iberian Peninsula's major urban areas. Porto city proper, which is the entire municipality of Porto, is small compared to its metropolitan area, with an estimated population of just 215,945 people in a municipality with only 41.42 km2. Porto's metropolitan area has around 1.7 million people (2019) in an area of 2,395 km2 (925 sq mi), making it the second-largest urban area in Portugal. It is recognized as a global city with a Gamma + rating from the Globalization and World Cities Research Network.

Located along the Douro River estuary in northern Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest European centres, and its core was proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996, as "Historic Centre of Porto, Luiz I Bridge and Monastery of Serra do Pilar". The historic area is also a National Monument of Portugal. The western part of its urban area extends to the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. Its settlement dates back many centuries, when it was an outpost of the Roman Empire. Its combined Celtic-Latin name, Portus Cale, has been referred to as the origin of the name Portugal, based on transliteration and oral evolution from Latin. In Portuguese, the name of the city includes a definite article: o Porto ("the port" or "the harbor"), which is where its English name "Oporto" comes from.

Port wine, one of Portugal's most famous exports, is named after Porto, since the metropolitan area, and in particular the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, were responsible for the packaging, transport, and export of fortified wine. In 2014 and 2017, Porto was elected The Best European Destination by the Best European Destinations Agency. Porto is on the Portuguese Way path of the Camino de Santiago. Porto is also the home of one of the country's most successful football clubs, FC Porto.

Snowy Owl

The Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) is a large, white owl of the typical owl family. Snowy Owls are native to Arctic regions in North America and Eurasia. Younger Snowy Owls start with darker plumage, which turns lighter as they get older. Males are almost all white, while females have more flecks of gray plumage.

They attached the 1-gm electronic devices to a leg of each grosbeak. The devices wake up every 2-6 weeks, record the GPS position and switch off. The GPS device, leg harness and leg bands weigh less than 2 g, or the equivalent of a long-distance runner carrying a laptop in a backpack. One of the presets in the stock camera app of the ZTE Axon 30 Ultra is a mirror mode (it exists horizontally and vertically)

This works on all four lenses/modules on the back for still images and for three of them for video

Here from the 35mm equivalent (1.2x) lens/module

With this module the "zoom gap" becomes visible

A 50mm equivalent would have been the better choice

Mit dieser Brennweite entsteht eine "Zoomlücke"

Ein 50mm Äquivalent wäre die bessere Wahl gewesen

Since an adult bird is about the equivalent of a nickel in weight they can perch on pretty light material. Here this female perches on a Hosta bud for a second while probing the mature flowers for nectar. In exchange for these tiny birds inserting their long bills and long tongues in the flowers to lap up nectar the flowers get pollinated. They will also feed on tiny insects and small spiders they pluck from the air and spider nests.

At times we may find these little birds perched on an exposed branch but most often we see them hovering with pin-point precision extracting nectar from a tubular flower.

This female is striking a nice pose for me midst a Hosta plant.

Tuesday Musings...

At Forresters Beach this morning I got to thinking about Tuesdays—today being one. It’s like the hump day between the weekend and the official hump day. Maybe Tuesday is just when we realise that Monday was a warm-up!

I went down a Google rabbit hole reading about Tuesdays. Turns out, there are some pretty cool Tuesday facts, too many to bore you with here but these few caught my eye:

Ruby Tuesday? The birthstone for Tuesday is Ruby—makes you wonder about The Rolling Stones song! 💎🎶

Do you see dead people? Some believe that if you’re born on a Tuesday, you have the power to see spirits. Wonder if Bruce Willis was born on a Tuesday. 👀👻

Research suggests that Tuesday is the least popular day on Facebook. I wonder if that applies to Flickr too? 🤔More investigations coming on that!

Tiw’s Day – Tuesday is named after Tiw, the Norse god of war, equivalent to Mars in Roman mythology. In old English : Tiwesdæg. No wonder it’s said to be a day of action and bold decisions! ⚔️🔥

The OG music drop day before digital streaming took over, music was officially released on Tuesdays. The idea was to give record stores time to unpack new albums before the weekend rush. Now, it’s all about Friday drops. 🎵📀

Anyway… Happy Tuesday, folks! Hope yours is a good one. 🚀😎

Update: I just checked my Flickr stats for Jan/Feb and yes, Tuesdays are the slowest day significantly! Not that you will read this because it's a Tuesday and you won't be here 😏

Producing “green” hydrogen from seawater, we are getting closer!

Hydrogen would be one of the major tools to decarbonize heavy industries, freight transport or aviation, to name a few.

However, this fuel is not yet completely environmentally friendly, as most of its production is done by breaking down methane and burning fossil fuels.

Green hydrogen has its merits, but its cost is high and it comes with its own challenges and flaws.

A water molecule is made up of one oxygen molecule and two hydrogen molecules.

It is possible to recover the latter by electrolysis, with low greenhouse gas emissions, at least when the production chain is powered by renewable energies.

However, this process needs fresh water to work properly. With 10 liters of water needed to produce one kilogram of hydrogen, this means that the (many) sources of drinking water would quickly become saturated if this fuel were used on a large scale.

According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, running trucks and major industries on green hydrogen could require the equivalent of the water consumption of a country like France!!!

But the Earth deserves its nickname of blue planet, since there is water on a large part of its surface. However, 97% of it is made up of seawater, and it does not mix well with electrolyzers.

On contact with it, they convert its chloride ions into gaseous chlorine, bad for the environment and corrosive enough to break them down after a few hours alone...

However, hydrogen continues to receive special attention and investment and seems destined to be an integral part of our future.

If the method is not yet stopped, ideas are flowing, and that's the most important thing 🤔

n 1888 Queen Victoria granted Belfast the status of the city and it was agreed that a grand and magnificent building was required to reflect this new status. City Hall opened its doors on the first of August 1906, at a time of unprecedented prosperity and industrial might for the city.

The new City Hall was designed by Alfred Brumwell Thomas in the Baroque Revival style and constructed in Portland stone. The incredible building cost £369,000 to complete, the equivalent around 128 million pounds today but remains an extraordinary beacon of success and civic pride for Belfast.

City Hall has many connections with the famous ocean liner Titanic. Viscount William Pirrie who was Lord Mayor in 1896-1897 just before City Hall’s construction, was also managing director of Harland & Wolff Shipyard. He is the man credited as having the idea for both ambitious builds. He used many of his skilled workmen in the fit-out of City Hall which is why the interiors today are considered an incredible insight into the finish of Titanic’s lounges and suites, the ship’s carving panelling being very similar.
