Upton house The house was built on the site of the hamlet of Upton, which was destroyed in about 1500 when the land was cleared for pasture The estate passed through various hands until the early 16th century when it was bought by Sir William Danvers. It remained with the Danvers family until 1688 when Sir Rushout Cullen purchased the estate for £7,000 equivalent to £1,140,000 in 2015 Cullen built the house for himself in about 1695.

Possibly my favourite composition at Ringing Roger with the foreground rock creating an 'x'. I've stood here many times perfecting the composition. It felt quite precarious yesterday with the frozen rocks.
These are the best conditions I've had. Often, patchy doesn't work, creating too much contrast. But the hard frost decreased the contrast on the rocks.
I couldn't fit the foreground rock into one frame for the previous upload as I only had 24mm equivalent lens. This is good though as going wider reduces the impact of Loose Hill and the Great Ridge.
A pole.

One of Kyoto's oldest (founded in 711 AD) and most revered Shinto shrines, Fushimi Inari serves as the headquarters for all the 40,000 shrines dedicated to Inari across Japan.
Originally the god of rice, Inari now governs the modern equivalent: success and prosperity in business. Fushimi Inari Shrine draws thousands of businessmen and tradespeople seeking blessings for their enterprises, especially at the first prayers of the New Year.
Fushimi Inari is noted for its remarkable sight of some 10,000 small torii (shrine gates) that arch over a long path up the hill behind the shrine. It takes about two hours to walk to the top of the hill. For me the challenge was to take a photo without dozens of people in view, most taking selfies. This shot was the best I could do.

Welsh St Valentine's Day
Today is Santes (St) Dwynwen's Day, which is the Welsh equivalent of St Valentine's Day.
The story as it is today is that Dwynwen fell in love with Deelon Dafodrill and, because her father the king had promised her elsewhere, she prayed for a cure for her love. Allegedly an angel grants her a potion which turns Meelon to ice (poor chap) and in return for his release, she is to remain unmarried and that through her, God becomes a refuge for all true lovers.
She then retreats to the little island of Llanddwyn where she becomes a herbalist and healer she dies circa AD460 and later becomes a patron saint of sick animals as well, and her early 'church' and well became a site of pilgrimage.
If we read between the lines she clearly was a skilled natural herbalist and healer whose services and potions (including love potions most likely) were well sought, and after her death, the well from which she drew her water was imbued with magical properties as the herb dispenser was no longer living. It is unlikely that in the early 5th centurey the term 'angel' would have been common place or even known as Christianity would have been in its absolute infancy in these islands in in those days, having not that long previously been officially adopted by the Roman Empire, and all Bible's were in Latin, only recently produced and rarely available to the public who spoke not Latin. It is of little doubt at that time traditional nature deities would still have been the order of the day.
This is further evidenced by the fact that under the reformation of Henry VIII her veneration and site of pilgrimage became a practice to be suppressed and she is not mentioned in Anglican or Catholic records as a saint.
She is however, recognised in the Eastern Orthodox Liturgics.

Z WSPSBD8 01L, bogged down with parcels and LTL shipments bound cross-country for the LA basin, is making good time up Edelstein Hill despite lagging over 12 hours off the transportation service plan, a consequence (at least partially) of the winter storm that has iced the Illinois River Valley like frosting.

This was an experimental photograph. It was taken in the middle of a very bright and sunny day. The ND1000 filter on its own wasn’t giving me the effect I was after. I added my variable ND filter to the ND1000 to give me the equivalent of 12-14 stops. The result is a 3 minute (180 sec) exposure. The ocean was quite rough, with a lot of choppy waves crashing near the shore, hence the areas of white in the water. You would never know, but a dog ran through the middle of the scene halfway through the exposure. I was surprised that there was no ghost of the dog in the image.
1000mm FF-equivalent, hand-held. I'm sure there's a picture there, but this isn't it. Both because this lens doesn't pull in enough detail on this sensor, and I'm not post-processing it quite right. I mean I think there's a picture there when I squint and try to see a little rectangular frame about a half a mile or so away.
Macro with an angle lens. Who says that a macro lens is essential to take close-up photographs. This photograph is taken with a 12mm Leica lens at f2.0 (24mm FF equivalent) and at a distance of about 6 centimeters from the edge of the lens. I think it is another way to take close-up photos taking advantage of what you have, the advantage is that it integrates better into the landscape, the disadvantage is that it is more difficult to isolate the main subject. These specimens were about 3 centimeters high.
So start with a simple image of the building facade, copy it, flip it, make B&W layers, overlay them, trim them, processes them. I'm happy, for now.

We all hold some opinion on Australian White Ibis; Bin Chicken to many, it is also an amazing bird: beautiful when landing against the light, a trooper with tough surviving skills and, as I witnessed from a hide last Sunday, a caring parent. This chick was thoroughly cleaned by its mother, with special attention given to its backside. Pity - just like its human equivalent, it will not remember...

The exact equivalent of an English Solicitor is difficult to translate to other countries. The work of a solicitor is done in different places by lawyers, advocates, notaries, attorneys and in some places jurists!
This solicitors practice is in Middlegate, Newark.
Dennis Specialist Vehicles was an English manufacturer of commercial vehicles based in Guildford, building buses, fire engines, lorries (trucks) and municipal vehicles such as dustcarts. All vehicles were made to order to the customer's requirements and more strongly built than mass production equivalents. For most of the 20th century the Dennis company was Guildford's main employer.
Following a decade of financial difficulties original shareholders sold out in 1972 and Dennis's ownership has since passed through quite a number of hands. The Woodbridge site was sold and a new small factory built in Slyfield remains in use by lineal business descendant, bus-maker Alexander Dennis. No Dennis haulage trucks have been built since 1985. The last Dennis fire engine left the Guildford factory in 2007.
The Dennis brand is still used on Alexander Dennis buses, Dennis Eagle dustcarts and Dennis mowers.
Dennis Brothers was founded in 1895 by brothers John Cawsey Dennis (1871–1939) and (Herbert) Raymond Dennis (1878–1939) who made Speed King bicycles. They built the bicycles, initially from bought-in parts, and sold them from their shop, The Universal Athletic Stores, in High Street, Guildford. They made their first motor vehicle in 1898, and in 1899, their first car, The Dennis Light Doctor's Car. Though shown at the National Cycle Show this car was never put into production.
After incorporating Dennis Brothers Limited, in which they were given generous financial support by local cyclists and potential motorists, the brothers began car production around 1901. John Dennis built a 30,000 square foot three storey plus basement building in Onslow Street in the centre of Guildford with a lift between floors later known as the Rodboro Buildings. This was the first purpose-built motor vehicle factory in Britain.
Their range of cars was quickly extended to 12 hp, 14 hp, 16 and 20 hp chassis fitted with tourer, town car and limousine bodies. From the Dennis Brothers stand at the 1903 Crystal Palace Motor Show the brothers sold almost £30,000 worth of cars and took many more orders. Larger models followed their first light cars. A 35 hp model in 1906 was powered by a White and Poppe engine. This power unit was soon fitted to all their vehicles.
Until well into the early years of the twentieth century the back wheels of most vehicles were driven by a chain from each side of a differential fixed to the chassis frame. Dennis Brothers developed and patented a reliable worm drive into a differential mounted on the back axle. Another feature of that period was spring drive, a torsional shock absorber mounted at the input end of the drive line.
Commercial vehicle activity increased. Their first was a van for Harrods in London. Dennis made its first bus in 1903 and their first fire engine in 1908 — for Bradford Council Fire Department. The last car was made in 1913 after the Dennis brothers saw there was less competition in the commercial vehicle market.
The rate of growth of the business may be gauged from the regular expansions on their new site at Woodbridge Hill on the outskirts of Guildford — in 1907, 1910, 1912 and 1913. In 1913 Dennis Brothers moved their main operations to a new much larger building of almost four acres on the twelve-acre site at Woodbridge leaving their purpose-built Onslow Street premises solely for repairs.
In March 1913 the investing public learnt that Dennis Brothers was a manufacturer of motor-vans, motor-lorries, motor-fire-engines, motor-cars etc. The brothers' offer of shares to the public was substantially over-subscribed and Dennis Brothers Limited became a publicly listed company. Rising international tensions precipitated a major contract for supply of 1,000 3-ton "subsidy" lorries to private buyers on terms set by the War Office. Taking the subsidy obliged the buyer to release the vehicle to the War Office in time of war. Materials had been ordered but no subvention lorries completed when the situation changed.
The 1930s
The decade began with the Great Depression. Diesel engines were in demand for larger commercial vehicles. New Dennis buses were a double-deck Lance and single-deck Lancet. The Dennis Ace, a smaller twenty-seater bus was brought into production in 1933 using the chassis of Dennis's small lorry. The Arrow Minor followed in 1935 and a new Falcon chassis in 1938.
John and Raymond Dennis built 223 houses for their workers, 102 of them on a 20 acres estate in Woodbridge Hill for their Coventry motor workers who brought production of White & Poppe engines to Guildford in 1933. The area took on the name Dennisville.] Both brothers died in 1939 and they are commemorated in the names of Dennisville's St John's Road and Raymond Crescent.

Tech note: 4 or 5 m away was still too far for a tight shot--even at 600mm--so I added 25% to the crop factor with a 20fps burst for a 750mm field of view, or about 1150mm full-frame equivalent. 16 hand-held images made it a candidate for super-resolution. Cropped even tighter--maybe a factor of two--then interpolated to about double, auto-aligned, converted to smart object, median stack. The subject was not completely motionless, but it turned out OK, I think.
