This is the entry to the Ile aux Herons Migratory Bird Sanctuary. When I took this shot, I was actually leaving as the sun was setting and the pretty lamps to light the path had come on. (The "turn around and take one last shot" is starting to become my favorite photo strategy.) To the left of this little bridge are the marshlands that lead into the river rapids, to the right is a peaceful pond inlet, where people are allowed to fish. I love this place, it has so many nooks and crannies, places to sit on a rock so close to the rapids and hear them rushing by you and quiet places too, where the herons will sit and pose for me... ;D

Here in Alaska, we consider this an Arctic Entry or in some regions a mud room.
These are crucial here in Fairbanks these arctic entrances create a temperature transition zone between entrance doors, in order to minimize the amount of cold air entering buildings by opening one door at a time.
Also, in this case acts as a diversion for the snow off the sloped main roof.

Here is my 13th entry for the Colossal Castle Contest XVI. For my second entry in the Classic Castle category I decided to go with a truly classic approach – maintaining a very similar style to the castle sets of the 80s, with just a few more tiles. I was surprised by how difficult and time consuming it was to build in that simplistic style, and am especially pleased with the yellow and black tudor portion I based off of the old printed wall element from Black Falcon’s Fortress. The tower is hinged off the wall, and the tudor guardhouse has a hinging portion to allow access to the interior.
Set #6062 Battering Ram was the first castle set John and I ever got (no we’re not that old, we got it second hand), so Black Falcons have always been extra special to us. Building this brought back a lot of fond memories of playing with that old set.

My seventh entry for round 3 of Iron Forge attempts to capture Edvard Munch's masterpiece. it uses the seed part twice for the pier and once for the easel (not visible, but vital).
Garcia Street Entry in Fall
I got out on my new Africa bike with both of my cameras and none of my dogs (for my safety, but felt a bit guilty for leaving them behind, home alone.) I wanted to capture this entry with the fall red leaves before they would wither. Fall arrived and already one gorgeous golden tree was at peak 1 day ago, too late now to try and shoot it! Odd how this entry is raised high off the ground? Could it be because once upon a time the trickle of our Santa Fe River now, used to become a raging river and flood the town for several blocks? Construction, Week 29
Last but not least, a farther-out overview of the entry vestibule. Usually there's a lot more activity going on in this scene, what with seasonal products outside and people moving in and out of the store! It's definitely going to be a weird feeling when none of this is here anymore...

This is a replication of the entry portal from the stavkirke (Stave Church) at Heddal in Norway. Viking dragon carving done in old TEAK. 10cm thick door made from re-purposed, 350 year old teak from Java, Indonesia, and custom ironmongery from Java as well. The stone porch is reclaimed, hand chiseled granite from an ancient temple in Fujian Province. The door bell is an old chow bell from a lumber camp in Maine.

this week its I Spy. I found out that my medium format camera (which has seen better days) is the first ever Rollieflex. I've also drawn both sets of my glasses, I wear my thick chunky black glasses when I'm out and about. Truth is my cheap free glasses are much more comfortable even though its missing a nose thingee.
