When I was finally editing this photo, I noticed how similar this scene is to the image I showed you yesterday. And at the same time how big the differences are between the two photos.
Basically, both photos have an almost identical composition. The central object of the photo is a tree on a rock (here, however, a birch and not a pine). To the right of the tree you can see a mountain in the morning mist in the background (here it is mount Lilienstein and not mount Winterstein). Both photos were taken at sunrise (one picture shortly before and one shortly after).
Both photos show the beauty of the Elbe Sandtone Mountains in Saxony (once from the small Winterberg and once from the Rauensteine).
And although the composition of the images is so similar, the mood and atmosphere of the two scenes is fundamentally different.
This is proof for me that, even though I have been traveling and taking photos in the region for years, there is still an endless amount of new things to discover here.
I'll tell you more about this morning there with the next photo, that was made here.

Picturesquely surrounded by two arms of the Havel, Friendship Island lies in the middle of Potsdam. It became famous through the show and teaching gardens created by Karl Foerster in 1937 with more than a thousand different perennials and over 250 varieties of iris in the water garden. Here you can not only enjoy nature and the garden on a walk, but there are also numerous sculptures to discover. Not to forget the island café and the large playground where you can spend the day as a family. Friendhip Island is a small paradise among the green spaces of Potsdam.

The season of large mushrooms is probably gradually coming to an end. Now you have to take a closer look to discover the smaller representatives of the mushroom family. The "Tart dwarf ball rings" are very rewarding from a photographic point of view. The underside of the hat is very detailed, the upper side, on the other hand, is completely unspectacular. They usually appear in groups, but solitary specimens can also be an attractive motif if, as here, they have a beautiful moss decoration.

My evening walk yesterday took me to a mountain called the Kleinhennersdorfer Stein, not far from the town of Gohrisch in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
This very spontaneous outing gave me two realizations.
First, I discovered that getting up here to the viewpoint Riedelaussicht is anything but a walk in the park. Although this rock isn't very high, it's a quite a hike. And the climb is quite steep in places.
Second, I saw that, besides the fantastic view of mount Lilienstein and Königstein Fortress, there's a lot more to discover here.
On the Kleinhennersdorfer Stein, you'll find a stunningly beautiful and quite old mixed forest with very photogenic rock formations spread all around.
And so, I will definitely return here again to explore this area in more detail.

Today you once again have a slightly different view of Frankfurt at night.
I'm standing here on the iron plank (a well-known pedestrian bridge over the Main) and behind me the famous skyline is shining into the night.
But today we're looking in the opposite direction. The view is significantly less spectacular, but in my opinion no less interesting (and a lot more contemplative).
There is also a lot to discover here, such as the beautifully illuminated Epiphany Church on the right and the headquarters of the European Central Bank on the left.

As promised, we're going back to the autumn forest today. But wait, you can't go in yet.
Instead, we stand for a moment at the edge of the forest and admire this colorful beech tree (which I estimate must be around 100 years old), which sticks its crown into the mist that drifts over the forest and its no less brightly colored but slightly younger ones Neighbors.
I think it's definitely worth taking a regular look up in the forest, especially in autumn. Even if there is of course an incredible amount to discover on the ground.
And that's exactly why I always try to add some variety to my photos.
Because what is actually a really good idea in life, namely focusing on a specific thing or a specific action, when taking photos means that you may miss a lot. And a lot of beautiful things, as you can clearly see here.

From the terrace on the 4th floor of the German technical museum in Berlin, one has a great view of the Underground line U1 (which runs above ground for a long stretch). Seen here is a train from Warschauer Straße to Uhlandstraße with the Potsdamer Platz (Sony Center) visible in the background. In the upper left corner, a part of a plane (which is suspended in the air in front of the museum) can be seen as well..
One last time, we hike through the icy and snow-covered landscape of Sweden's polar region.
Once again, we hear that special silence that only a snow-covered landscape can provide. A silence that is only broken by the crunching of the snow under our (thankfully) excellently insulated boots.
And once again, we feel the biting cold that freezes our breath in the scarf we've tied around our mouths and noses.
Once again, we enjoy this hostile yet magical place before we head south again tomorrow.
You can be curious to see how far south this will take us. But it will be a while before we get there, because there's still a lot to discover along the way.
BÄRBEL: “Was ist denn los Luis ?”
Fortsetzung folgt …

In Galway, we came across this amazing shop, which Luis and Bärbel naturally especially liked.
LUIS: ‘Bärbel, come quickly !!’
BÄRBEL: ‘What’s going on, Luis ?’
LUIS: ‘Have a look at this shop window – there are sheep in it !’
BÄRBEL: ‘Wow, they’re as big as real sheep.’
GRANDPA RUDI (quietly to himself): “Good thing they don’t know you can actually buy these sheep.”😜
To be continued …

This week I want to start with a beauty. In my opinion, this beautiful rose has the almost perfect shape. And at the same time she impresses with her elegant restraint.
Before she became a photo model, the lady was a table decoration in a restaurant. But when I saw her, I had to take her home. Of course I asked for permission, that's normal.
If I were to draw the perfect rose for me, assuming I could draw at all, this is what it would end up looking like. And I can't even say for certain why that is.
I think it has something to do with the proportions, because the flower is just as high as it is wide and looks very symmetrical overall. And the light coloring makes the structures on the surface stand out well. But basically the “why” doesn’t matter, does it? Sometimes you can just admire.
And so I wish you a week full of elegance and beauty. And that doesn't have to only refer to what you can see. Because your other senses (smell, taste, hearing or touch) are also able to perceive things that have these properties. Have fun discovering.

The Mainbernheimer Tor was built between 1533 and 1548. In front of the small outbuilding is the little house for the gatekeeper. For centuries there were disputes with the neighbouring Mainbernheimers about the street that flows into the gate. The historic townscape of Iphofen is characterised by the completely preserved fortifications, gates and towers, half-timbered buildings and the Gothic parish church of St. Vitus.
