On Thursday 2nd October 2014 Hartlepool College of Further Education hosted its annual Awards held by its School of Engineering. The event gave College staff, partners, employers and the family and friends of students a chance to honour the very finest levels of achievement in this diverse and dynamic area.

The group tried several designs on paper and with straws before settling on a design (not one of these earlier ones) and drawing it up to give to the implementation group.

The Travellers celebrates Indigenous presence and the meeting of cultures through migration. It comprises 10 large-scale sculptures, each approximately 7.5 metres tall and collectively incorporating 3.7 kilometres of stainless steel. Nine of the 10 figures are motorised and at regular intervals move along the length of Sandridge Bridge, sited near a former Aboriginal meeting ground and near the landing point where many early migrants stepped ashore. Built in 1888, the bridge is the third to occupy this site, the original constructed in 1853.
Designed by Beirut-based artist Nadim Karam, The Travellers tells a history of migration to Australia. Each of the 10 figures comprising the work represents a phase of arrival, as historian James Jupp has defined these. The figures, graphic and abstracted in form, are Gayip (Aboriginal period); First Settler (convict period); Melbourne Beauty (gold rushes); Walker and His Tucker Bag (assisted migration); Shelter (displaced persons); Urban Wheel (European migration); Running Couple (refugees); Butterfly Girl (Asian and Middle Eastern migration); Technoman (students and professionals); and Walking Sun (multiculturalism). Below the figures, a series of etched glass panels stretch across the bridge, a component in this history of migration to Australia.
This work was commissioned by the City of Melbourne and Victorian government, and launched in 2005.

Major engineering work at Armley junction west of Leeds in conjunction with Platform 0 construction over the Bank Holiday weekend resulted in special workings. Colas Railfreight's 70809 brings ballast in box wagons and side discharge wagon and two Kirow cranes. The working had started at Doncaster and travelled to York, and Harrogate before arriving at Horsforth.

Technical detail photos of the GENxplor molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) system from the Veeco company, in the lab of Professor Zetian Mi and Ping Wang in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science building on the North Campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on Sunday, April 3, 2022.
Mi and Wang have used this machine for producing high-quality, wafer-scale hexagonal boron nitride. Their discovery could speed research into the next-generation computing and LED devices.

This is an important professional book which has been carefully prepared by the author for many years. Electronics is arcane and abstract. But it is also an exact science of real practical importance. Whether we appreciate it or not, our lives are practically dominated by electronics, e.g., TVs, computers, smart-phones, et. al.. Applying electronic theories would bring actual, practical results which could be tested or gauged by instruments. This book on practical electronics should therefore be taken seriously. This book has been painstakingly prepared for readers who suffer from a phobia of technologies which tend to be difficult to grasp. This book is apparently the only one of its kind now which conveys important, useful electronics knowledge in a very simple, jargon-free, easily comprehended manner. In the book the author also shares some of his experiences in electronics by offering practical tips on circuit design. What are required of the reader of this book are just some patience, interest and motivation.
