I did the embroidery on this crib quilt kit before I ever began to quilt, so it is pre-1978. Because I didn't know how to bury the knots on it and it was pre-quilted, the back looked less than finished. So I just put it away. Recently, with help from friends Elaine and Iona, I crow-foot tied it to a new backing and gave it a new binding. It was displayed for sale at our local senior center with the proceeds going to fund supplies for our quilt group there. It measures 34" X 55".
It sold last week!

I embroidered this on a blanket for my niece. I made the blanket out of a yard of pink and white fleece. Hopefully she can use it when she is older, too!
I designed these embroidered bracelets/cuffs to be sewn completely in the hoop. The button hole is stitched out in the hoop too. All you gotta do is sew on a button at the end.
I've been wearing them like crazy and offer them in my etsy shop.

Hewetson Ltd Embroiderers (Albion Mill) Macclesfield
My Grandmother started work here aged 14 (1934) on a Schiffli embroidery machine.

Augustus Hewetson established this company
in Macclesfield in 1898 with four hand
embroidery machines. Over the next few years
it was gradually expanded, with the purchase
of further hand embroidery machines, and
schiffli machines in 1905. In 1927 automatic
machines were installed and then the firm claimed
to be ‘the largest manufacturer of all types
of embroidery in the world’.
During the two world wars Hewetson was
a major supplier of badges for the Allied
armed forces, embroidering fifty million
badges during the Second World War.
By 1958 there were about 1,000 employees
on several different sites. During all this
time (1898 – 1958) the company was tightly
controlled by one family, the Hewetsons.
There was a change in ownership in 1982
when it joined the Berisford group. Following
re-structuring of the company in 1993
Hewetson ceased to operate as a schiffli
manufacturing company.

Embroidered with humorous quotes about food. "Training is everything. The peach was once a bitter almond, cauliflower is nothing but cabbage with a college education". -Mark Twain-
I embroidered these pictures of my mother and her siblings on a linen dishtowel for our extended family dirty santa game.
Using the butterfly and dragonfly pattern from the book, Colorful Stitchery by Kristin Nicholas, I hand embroidered these linen pillows using DMC variegated threads.
I focused on the secondary research/image of luminous tube sponges, then recorded it with paint and ink. I followed its quality to adapt to textiles. I used Angelina Fibres to capture the luminous ink.I machine embroidered the surface on dissoluble fabric to capture the layered quality. I then repeated the design and moulded to create a 3D textile sculpture. I feel the mask is visually and conceptually successful, as the mask demonstrates humans adopting new skin to cope with the new environment. But it is not a practical wearable piece.
250 Word Statement
My mini portfolio consists of work from both A Level and Foundation, where I have investigated a variety of concepts. This includes primary research through photography and observations where I have demonstrated how I draw from initial research and record ideas to develop to textile sculpture and surfaces. My material manipulation and experimentation through materials and techniques is constantly expanding to explore new applications and alternative combinations. Keeping a drawing, and gallery journal while also drawing from life, informs my perspective. A past project from A level was responding to a natural event. From research of Charles Darwin’s ‘Natural Selection’ I developed the concept of humans adopting sea creature’s features as a response to a flood, biology would demand humans to physically adapt to their surroundings.
From foundation I explored the Higgs Boson particle, I wanted to visually communicate all life being connected by the particle, through imagery of different animals and patterns that connect. Then investigating the Science behind beautiful landscapes, how elements of nature make up landscapes, such as the energy from the sea and weather cycles. While equally considering how natural forms are made by landscapes due to the rock cycle and volcanic layers. Presently, I am investigating snakes shedding their skin. I began to research animals ‘own architecture’. I found the decay and renewal of snake skin interesting as the process is alike the rebirth of the animal. I considered this renewal process for humans, instead of being continual to be alike a renewal of life.
