This is a VINTAGE Japanese Taikogara Fukuro Obi. Fukuro Obi are semi-formal belts worn with kimono. They are characterised by being only partly patterned, and in the case of Taikogara fukuro obi, they are only patterned on specific portions that will be visible when tied in an otaiko musubi (drum knot). Fukuro obi are usually worn with houmongi or furisode kimono. This obi likely originates in the Showa Period (1926 - 1989). This obi has beautiful, and elegantly embroidered pattern of flower roundels. The roundels feature cherry blossoms, peonies, wisteria, clematis and orange blossoms on a cream coloured, rinzu silk background.
I have inspected this obi in detail, and there some damage. There is a prominent fold line along the centre for part of the obi's length. Some of the kinkoma embroidery is also coming loose, but this can be repaired with a few stitches. There is also a very prominent stain on one of the sections that will likely be hidden when worn. Overall I would rate this obi as being in good vintage condition. I believe this garment is 100% silk.

French embroidery was the filter image used to make this Dreamscope image. I also used Oil Paint and some Topaz Clean to smooth out the lines.

The Coptic Museum was founded in 1908 and is the World's most extensive collection of Egyptian Christian art.
Housed in a purpose built gallery on two floors (with architectural embellishments such as ceilings and glass that are rewarding in themselves) the exhibits span the centuries, telling the story of Coptic Orthodox Christianity in Egypt, one of the oldest Christian communities in the World which today comprises approximately ten percent of the country's population.
The display begins with architectural sculpture from the late Roman period onwards through to frescoes from churches along with items in all media, including an especially fine collection of paintings and icons upstairs.
It is one of the most important museums in Cairo and an essential place to visit in order to gain an understanding of Egypt's Christian past.
Beautiful heavily padded embroidered floral pattern on intricate drawn-work background - notice that some of the petals are really an arrangement of hearts.
