CC Most Versatile: Try Something Different - Miniature Effect

Captured this scene with only a few minutes of dusk left. As the light was filtering thru I zoomed the lens in. The effect I got was unexpected.

Second attempt at the Brenzier effect. Quite happy with the result!

Shot by Nikon D3s with Nikkor 80-200mm f/4.5 AI-S lens.

Built in 1799, Hawa Mahal (also known as the Palace of Winds) is essentially a high screen wall built so the women of the royal household could observe street festivals without being seen from the outside. Constructed of red and pink sandstone, it was designed in the form of the crown of Krishna, the Hindu god. Its unique five-storey exterior is similar to the honeycomb of a beehive with 953 small windows called jharokhas decorated with intricate latticework. The lattice also allows cool air from the Venturi effect through the intricate pattern, air conditioning the whole area during the high temperatures of summer. This shot was pretty challenging to pull off as I had to work very low in order to get the angle I wanted, and even though I got there early, I had to wait a while for the soft morning light to illuminate the entire façade.

The state tree for Oklahoma is the Redbud and right now they are popping pinkish purples across the state. I was working on the light and color to get it to that 3D effect in 2D.

I won't post a lot of effects pictures, but I am just learning some of this stuff and I really liked this one. It came from a photo I took the other night. That picture is posted as well, but is not as exciting.

Looking east into the western edge of Hurricane Isaac which touched Topeka, Kansas in August of 2012. Several other photos are featured below.

The "compression effect" is something that is around us that we don't really notice that much. The weird thing that happens when viewing a landmark from a distance. Currumbin Rock shot from about 800 meters away with a 500mm lens...the distant buildings of Surfers Paradise (about 20 kms away) appear bigger relative to the rock as you walk further away....thus giving the perception that the buildings are close to the rock....move closer to the rock and they shrink

Thank you for all the comments and faves, my friends.

I love how the sparks illuminate the rain in this shot - have a zoom in on the detail here.

A Piccadilly Line train gets the power down away from Ealing Common and heads towards Acton Town as the shoe leaves the conductor rail section and arcs, illuminating the rain nicely.

My first sunset in Iceland, and I was treated to this scene! Lenticular clouds forming directly above the spire of Selfosskirkja. The colors of the sunset only added to the halo effect for the rest of my stay in this magical country.

I later read this church, located in the center of Selfoss, started being build in 1952 and was consecrated on Palm Sunday, 25 March 1956. To the members of Selfosskirkja, here's to 70 years of Palm Sundays in this striking place of worship and best wishes to all on this Easter Sunday!!!

I'm extremely fortunate to share this image with you all via Explore. Thanks to each of you for the feedback and the continued encouragement! Cheers!

A partridge (Perdix perdix), winter 2025, Montana.

I overexposed for a High Key effect to reduce the background clutter. This species of partridge is locally called "Hun" here in Montana for Hungarian Partridge, although the bird books typically call it Gray Partridge. This species is native to most of Europe and across the western Palearctic as far as southwestern Siberia. It was introduced to North America and is a non-migratory bird that is a resident in non-forested areas of Montana.

The Moon effect.

Apparently tree stems/trunks are affected by the moons gravitational pull...

.. this one is taking things a bit too far and really branching out.

I hope do demonstrate the variety of shots that exists within a confined space with one theme. Having taken the class here to shoot, I also hope they can start to see the beauty that exists all around them.
