A small series made with the Fujifilm GFX and the Minolta Rokkor 58mm f/1.2, exploring hard light, deep shadows, industrial spaces, and quiet human presence. These images are less about the subjects themselves and more about the tension between visibility and disappearance — where form, texture, and gesture briefly emerge from darkness.
A panoramic image of Shafer Canyon in Canyonlands National Park, Utah. The lack of foreground interest in this image is due to the fact that I am standing on the canyon rim looking down to the Shafer Trail Canyon Road. Shafer Trail Canyon Road (Highway 142) is a steep narrow gravel road that winds its way from the rim to the canyon floor. The road reaches a point where it splits and the road to the right becomes the White Rim Trail, while the road to the left is Shafer Canyon Road/Potash Road (Highway 142) goes in the direction of Dead Horse Point State Park and beyond to eventually connect with Highway 279 and back to Moab. Where the road splits is a white van for a sense of scale . . . unfortunately it is hard to distinguish in this lower resolution image.

This set of beads features an array of patterns made using my Cutting Edge Peeler techniques. I peeled lots of slices from different slabs I'd built and altered. Then I used handmade templates to cut and piece the patterns together, sealing the seams with burnishing to create more complex composite veneers.
The beads were constructed using my Draped Bead and Sponge Bezel techniques. Draping gives each bead its subtle sloped surface (a nice way to highlight the shifting mica). Sponge Bezelling gives each veneer a nice outlining frame, and that frame continues seamlessly to form the back of the bead. You can see other beads made with these Drape and Bezel techniques in some of my finished pieces: Matrix Necklace, Red Necklace, and Botanical Necklace.
Together here for this image, but then sold during a few international teaching tours, these beads are now scattered all over the world... Do you have one? Which one?

Feeling alienated from traditional masculinist images of God, Laura Geller once wrote: 'God is the Thou I discover through my encounter with the human thous in my life, people of whom I can say "for seeing your face is like seeing the face of God".' The views from Bamford Edge are sensational!
From Great Tor the view north stretches over Ladybower Reservoir and up towards the other Derwent Dams, north-west to Kinder Scout, west to Win Hill and the Great Ridge and Mam Tor, east to provide by far the best views of Stanage Edge, and south east down the Derwent Valley towards Chatsworth.
At 429m above sea level, Bamford Edge is more than 200m short of the highest parts of the Peak District (this honour goes to Crowden Head on Kinder Scout at 631m) but is so strategically positioned that the views are far reaching and relatively uninterrupted.
On a clear day it is simply fantastic!
