In contrast to the previous evening the morning greated me with overcast and misty conditions. However, a chink of light forced it's way through to briefly light up the foreground and leading edge of the cliff.

On the edge of one of Europe’s most populated urban areas, some 40 km from Milan lies this fabulous town of Torno. After landing in Malpensa airport and driving a rented so very typical for Italy tiny Fiat 500 on highways and curvy roads we came into an extremely narrow street between the stone fences, changing itself to the stairs coming down to the lake. Unbelievable, but we had to park the car quite far and then walk with the suitcases to the hotel. After “descending” to the town’s church square with the boats parking place we noted it was actually good there were no cars there. Gorgeous! Narrow winding stony streets two men wide with numerous entrances to the lake, where the water gently soothes the already rounded stone edges. Smell of freshness in the air, birds singing and cook making special local risotto with fried fish on top...
This was a kind of business trip I prefer, when a hard-working day with endless meetings and discussions ends with a quiet admiration of nature accompanied by dinner of fish caught few hours before... Belissimo!

So it's been an absolute age since I was last able to go for a wander in the Peak District having been incredibly busy recently. To say I had itchy feet would be an understatement. When I arrived there was cloud cover, typical I though as it had been clear blue skies all day up until that point. I waited patiently however and the sun did come out to play albeit fairly briefly. I'm fairly pleased with what I came away with. It was certainly worth the insect bites I now have as a result of not packing any insect repellent! Still it's a lesson learnt and it's all good practice for heading off to Wales at some point soon.

Enjoying the sunset on the dune near the edge of the Earth. The nearest road is 3 days of hiking away, the next beach to sail to or to land on with a small plane is 5-7 hours of hiking away. This is truly a remote place, and the calmness of the place is only disturbed by the crashing waves. One of my favourite places.

Trois jours de rando sur Rakiura (l'île Stewart) au sud de l'archipel néo-zélandais mènent à un refuge en haut d'une colline, noyé dans la végétation dense, entouré de troncs comme une cabane perchée dans les arbres, recouvert par la canopée des arbres qui se battent pour obtenir une place au soleil pour leurs feuilles.
Depuis le refuge, à travers la baie vitrée, le balcon donne sur cette forêt dense d'arbres de jungle, de fougères... Et au fond, au loin, en bas dans la vallée, une plaine sans fin et un désert vert. Pas un humain dans cette direction, ou seuls quelques randonneurs et chasseurs de passage qui traversent la plaine chaque jour et retrouvent un refuge le soir venu près de la côte. Si on trace une ligne droite, c'est le bout de l'île dans 50 ou 100km puis l'océan, jusqu'à l'Antarctique. Seuls les oiseaux, les cerfs, et quelques autres animaux vivent dans cette jungle.
À côté de ce refuge, une dune qui complète ce lieu isolé et confortable, une dune depuis laquelle on peut apprécier le coucher du soleil sur la mer de Tasmanie, le soleil illuminant de ses rayons orangés l'île Codfish, et notre île Stewart.
On voit les rochers se découper dans la mer, attaqués par les vagues qui s'y écrasent. Je ne me lasse pas de voir les vagues venir et repartir, hyptonisantes. Je ne me lasse pas de contempler le sable doré par le soleil, ponctué de rochers affleurant, sur cette dune à 100m au-dessus de la mer. Je m'y sens si bien.
I think Edge is beautifull... I'm not a huge fan of her classic hair though, so here she is with a little twist :)

The views from Bamford Edge are sensational!
From Great Tor the view north stretches over Ladybower Reservoir and up towards the other Derwent Dams, north-west to Kinder Scout, west to Win Hill and the Great Ridge and Mam Tor, east to provide by far the best views of Stanage Edge, and south east down the Derwent Valley towards Chatsworth.
At 429m above sea level, Bamford Edge is more than 200m short of the highest parts of the Peak District (this honour goes to Crowden Head on Kinder Scout at 631m) but is so strategically positioned that the views are far reaching and relatively uninterrupted.
On a clear day it is simply fantastic!

It was one of those evenings where you look through the viewfinder and think "wow" and the picture takes itself. Mind you, I still managed to cock things up as most of the images were blurred due to the wind. I was also struggling with lens flare. It's much easier in winter months as the sun is in an easier place for side lighting. But I never got any luck with the light in those months.
The image looks a little warm but it's pretty much how it looked through the viewfinder. I even cooled it down a little.
