Brincliffe Edge Wood
Brincliffe Edge Wood is one of Sheffield’s Green and Open Spaces, managed by Sheffield City Council’s Parks and Countryside, in partnership with the Friends of Brincliffe Edge Wood.
The area of Brincliffe Edge Wood is mixed woodland set on a south-facing sandstone edge.
The trees along the top of the Edge were planted in 1815.
The lower slopes were fields until about 1918 when they were acquired by Sheffield City Council. These became allotments, some of which have since reverted to woodland.
The woodland is a vital habitat for wildlife, both flora and fauna, and is being managed for local people to enjoy as well as to sustain and enhance its biodiversity.
Please help us to ensure that the wood continues to play its part in the green infrastructure of Sheffield and remains a beautiful and respected local amenity for everyone.
A shallow river that flows over a ford. There is a ridge where the water drops, creating these patterns in the water.
