Roaming small sidestreets and backstreets at night can be boring, but it takes just one bright coloured façade to catch your eye and magically change the scene - making you stop and snap a photo ;)

This backlit dandy seedhead displays an eyecatching iridescence (also known as goniochromism).
.
Iridescence is an optical phenomenon of surfaces in which hue changes in correspondence with the angle from which a surface is viewed. [...] Conventional photography only records the specific effect of iridescence (not the phenomenon itself).
The word iridescence is derived in part from the Greek word ἶρις îris (gen. ἴριδος íridos), meaning rainbow, which in turn derives from the goddess Iris of Greek mythology, who is the personification of the rainbow and acted as a messenger of the gods. Goniochromism is derived from the Greek words gonia, which means angle, and chroma, which means color.

Have a wonderful Thursday and thanks for stopping by.
For Smile on Saturday theme of “eye catcher” in which the rest of the photo is in black and white, only the eyes are in color, here is my resin ball-jointed boy doll, Dillon.
Milo my 4 month old kitten was basking in the sun and it was then I got this pic..thought of sharing this with all cat and animal lovers on flickr..!
Delivered goods removed and cat immediately takes possession of the empty box!

Charles BAUDELAIRE
1821 - 1867
The deafening street around me screamed.
Long, thin, in great mourning, majestic pain,
A woman passed, with a lavish hand
Lifting, swinging the festoon and hem;
Agile and noble, with her statue leg.
I was drinking, tense as an extravagant,
In her eye, livid sky where the hurricane germinates,
The sweetness that fascinates and the pleasure that kills.
A flash of lightning... then the night! - Fugitive beauty
Whose gaze has suddenly reborn me,
Will I only see you in eternity?
Elsewhere, far from here! too late! perhaps never!
For I know not where you flee, you know not where I go,
O you whom I would have loved, O you who knew it!
La rue assourdissante autour de moi hurlait.
Longue, mince, en grand deuil, douleur majestueuse,
Une femme passa, d'une main fastueuse
Soulevant, balançant le feston et l'ourlet ;
It didn't seem fitting to have such colorful photographs sporadically placed amongst my other work. Because of this, I have saved these photos over time to be uploaded together
This large psychedelic painting done on the floor of a public area intrigued me.
It seems to be inviting people to dance together. Best seen large by clicking on the photo
I never thought I'd ever see one!
Usually found in the South Atlantic yet here it is off the north east coast of England
And it flew at less than 10ft from us
Fantastic!
How did it get here?
One theory is that it's young bird that somehow took a 180 degree turn in the wrong direction and just kept going
It's 8,000 miles from here to the Falklands
Extraordinary when you think about it
Sadly It's highly unlikely that this bird will ever make it back down to the southern oceans because of the effort required., plus the unhelpful prevailing winds added to which the usually windless conditions around the equator
Taking all that into account I hope he doesn't even try
But lonely? No
He appears to be happy and settled amongst a UK Gannet colony., there's plenty of fish to eat in the sea., and he's certainly making a lot of bird watchers and photographers very happy watching him from the cliff tops
He's a bit of a star and you get the feeling that somehow he knows it

Having never seen one of these beetles before walking through my local area in Kingston Park, Newcastle upon Tyne the planted lilac in front of the McDonalds restaurant was covered in dozens of these beetles, a quick unscientific count put it at more than 50 but probably significantly more.
A native of Southern Europe they only arrived in the UK in the 1990s but clearly spreading and getting very well established these day.
Not particularly good news for the plants they and their larvae feed on but a very eyecatching beetle.
